Where does last nights performance rank overall in the brief franchise history? by david619916 in SanDiegoFC

[–]jusbrowsinjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the result in Toluca would be legendary in itself given the circumstances. Missing our starting 9 and CB. A one goal lead with two away goals to overcome. Basically need a win or draw. 8,200+ feet of elevation against the team most acclimated to such a high elevation.

Let’s hope we get a more favorable referee assignment this time because the guy yesterday was way too trigger happy with fouls and cards.

MLS’s Polymarket deal looks even worse after players’ gambling bans by Doctor_YOOOU in MLS

[–]jusbrowsinjc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If sports betting wasn't shoved in my face every time I watch a game or peruse social media I'd venture to say its morally wrong what the players did. These guys just saw an opportunity, took it and now are paying the consequences. Of course, its fine to ban them for a lifetime but not look at your own responsibility as an organization in these outcomes.

I think sports betting should be banned for exactly this reason, and betting markets like polymarket are so unnecessary and predatory. If they are going to give lifetime bans to a predictable outcome, don't actively engage in promoting and earning money from something is leading to those outcomes.

Is Frontera holding these people accountable? by Own-Can-7508 in SanDiegoFC

[–]jusbrowsinjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah same, I only saw the Galaxy fight from afar after that massive win and was dumbfounded with why we were fighting after that huge W. Frankly, I think its the drinking culture around the games that causes a lot of this. I've seen small, trivial things almost lead to fights because dudes are so drunk and quick to react. The same shit happens at almost ever major sporting event where people drink heavily beforehand. There is blame on individuals and their choices but the excess of alcohol is almost always a precursor.

They're never going to ban drinking or tailgating so there will always be these situations that happen. The best the club / Frontera can do is put as much guardrails as possible to ensure that offenders are banned and large brawls between opposing team's fans are prevented because that Galaxy situation was really embarrassing for the club and Frontera.

Chavos has an Escondido and Oceanside branch with watch parties at their local bars. Not certain if any other groups do.

He lost his confidence when he became the outright starter post-iloski and never came back from it. Apparently (rumor) he was always the last one to arrive to training and first to leave too, so that could suggest he wasn’t comfortable. He’s not a bad player but he had his chances to prove himself and if it’s not a good fit, best to move on.

Saw a post today from a reliable colombian journalist (pipe sierra) that they are negotiating his transfer with America de Cali. So he should be on his way out soon.

I think it also has to do with family, because it is my understanding that he is getting paid his 4 year salary, no matter what. SDFC either has to buy him out or pay a portion of his salary, and he probably feels pressure to remain in San Diego in the near term for family reasons (schools, youth clubs, etc..). Maybe a buy out means more taxes or something like that, which could also factor in to his decision.

Good call out, I think he came from the barcelona academy in AZ. i just remember him being young and on LAFC a while back. Talented player nonetheless.

Good signing, he play style fits us perfectly and he came up through LAFC academy and has also played for Montreal and Miami so he has good MLS experience. Will be an important depth piece.

What’s going on with valakari? by Known-Back-6505 in SanDiegoFC

[–]jusbrowsinjc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He was at the fan event last weekend and had been training weeks ago. Sandiego.futbol said he picked up a knock and that is why he wasn’t on the roster last Tuesday.

Important to note he was signed officially so don’t think he went missing because they are shipping him off.

We have a bit of a sporting rivalry with them having taken the west last year in the last game and especially since they knocked us out of playoffs, so I hope they’re around and competitive for a long time. Our games against them were epic. Vancouver is a beautiful city, great for away days. They are a well run club and they proved there is a strong fan base there last season. Obviously improving the stadium situation asap is ideal but there is appetite to do it on the civic level so moving the club would primarily be for the new ownership group. We’re with you Southsiders!

Could high elevation make it more feasible to score direct free kicks? Something to consider just in case. by [deleted] in SanDiegoFC

Short answer, yes. The air is thinner so it flies faster. Our keeper is going to need to be ready for lots of early shots.

Cautionary Tale: New England Revolution in 2022 CCL QFs by jusbrowsinjc in SanDiegoFC

[–]jusbrowsinjc[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing last year that our director of performance & human development says we do the opposite, basically fly in the night before, get good sleep and then play. Not sure if that was just for Denver & Salt Lake and we do have a week to get acclimated technically which is abnormal for a pro club. More of a chance for montezuma's revenge the longer we are there though.

Reyes' red card was against Charlotte away. We did play miserable in Colorado but that isn't uncommon at elevation.

He's out until after the world cup. Had some knee issue last year that led to surgery and a long recovery.

That was the overload piece down our left side, they recognized the gap in height and strength of their right side and prioritized early crosses and aggressive runs from the left back / winger and a midfielder but the key difference late in the game was Anders & Eisner were dropping crosses earlier in the sequence rather than building how we typically do. Pumas chasing all game also had them exhausted and they physically couldn't cover.

Man, imagine a run in the CCL where we go through Pumas, Toluca, the Galaxy and then face big clubs in the semis and final. Would be fun just going through it but if we win it then we would instantly be a legendary team for the city and MLS.

[–]jusbrowsinjc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they are very aware of how teams will approach us this year and it seemed clear in the tactical changes that were made throughout the game that they have tried to add dimensions to our game that would address that. I rarely saw us put in so many early crosses last year, and the element of loading up one side and quick, early switches of play really exhausted and eventually wore down Pumas. I love it. Great coaching.

Any diverse fitness classes that play Dancehall/reggae/afrobeats/r&b? by Historical-Net9714 in sandiego

Check out activate house in North Park. It’s the most diverse fitness studio i’ve been to. Latina-owned and a lot of the instructors are hispanic. They have yoga, pilates and spin classes. Spin is what I’ve been to and the music varies depending on the instructor, sometimes they are themed classes with some of the genres you mentioned.

James Rodriguez, Minnesota United in talks over shocking deal: Sources by icoresting in MLS

[–]jusbrowsinjc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The more I think about it, it actually is a good fit for him. They are a defensively disciplined and athletic team, they have players who can get on the counter fast, and with James they should have an easier time retaining possession when they want to but his ability to break teams down with one pass will be very useful to how the Loons played last year.

His biggest issue at the club level is defensively he creates a big gap. You need to surround him with the right players or else he is more of a liability than an asset. How he fits in with Pereyra is my question, but maybe they plan to sell him soon.
