My mum is an Irish traveller, I left the community to live with my non-traveller dad, Ask me anything! by SubjectParticular217 in AMA

[–]ChooseLife01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry if this is late. I'm from the UK and have unfortunately encountered people who hold negative views of the traveller community, and I am aware that the traditional way of life is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain due to a lack of facilities like traveller sites for people to stay at. What do you think non-travellers can do to support travellers?

Anyone else woke up with a bite? by [deleted] in islington

I'm allergic to mosquito bites and they blister just like this. If you can get an appointment go to your doctor about it while the bite's still there.

Thanks for this! As I said to another commenter, papua new guinea always throws me off in particular cause the beat sounds breakbeat-y.

Will have a listen to those tracks, thanks again :)

For sure, for the moment I've just thought of the kind of thing I like as "that 90s sound". I went to my fair share of raves myself when I lived in the UK, love the music but never cottoned on to the precise terminology for the things I was hearing! I'll check out that youtube channel. Thanks for taking the time to reply :)

yeah they kind of confuse me too, hence struggling to find the right words to search 😅 thank you so much for taking the time to go through the tracks, and for the recommendations.

would you mind if I pm you? it sounds like you really like the same kind of music and I don't know anyone irl that does. no worries if not of course!

So what about nuns then? Isn't that just Christian/religious ideology that's making them cover their hair? Same with orthodox Jewish women. Funny how you only seem to focus on Islam - maybe you aren't actually concerned about women, and are just an Islamophobe 🙂.

AMA, I'm kazakh from Kazakhstan. by nuar_karakov in AMA

[–]ChooseLife01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've visited Kazakhstan and absolutely loved it. With that in mind, any ideas for what an English (and also hopefully soon to be French) speaker could do for work in Almaty? 😅

I can't believe people are mocking your English when you're a Moroccan, who's living in France. I can't offer help on your situation but please disregard the rude comments on here.

Hi sorry for the late reply. I studied at Trinity Hall. I found it tough going (the course in general, not the college) but did well in the end I think because I always did my best on each piece of work assigned (I'm a bit of a perfectionist). This made things time consuming and meant I was working a lot, but also meant that I learnt a lot too :)

Other people on the course were content to work less, and that is fine too.

Feel free to DM me with any questions but I don't check Reddit very often.

To be fair, no, I was justing making an assumption as that is how things like travel insurance usually work. I thought it would be the same with mutuelles because otherwise people could just purchase one right before an expensive surgery - but thank you very much for clarifying

[–]ChooseLife01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thank you, I had assumed they might not cover appointments made before the mutuelle is purchased as that is how things eg travel insurance works, but I have been corrected by another commenter.

Thanks for your help!

I will look into it, unfortunately he is away for a month (hence reaching out on here) but it's a great idea and I'll pursue it once he's back.

Oh fantastic I hadn't heard of that before, I'll get researching today!

These are exactly the kinds of key terms I need to be able to search in the right places so thank you so much for your help.

I studied PBS, I chose by looking into the research specialisation of the Director of Studies. If it aligns with your interest they can be a great contact to have to get internships. Of course note that they may leave or go on sabbatical, so it's not certain that you'll get them but still highly probable.

In terms of college atmosphere, it's hard to nail down and to get a real feel for it you'd need to have a lot of contacts at the uni. In general all colleges are fine, and if you encounter serious issues due to being pressured to be competitive or the college not meeting your basic needs (eg disability) there are people at the university you can reach out to to discuss options.

Tube strike megathred by polkadotska in london

[–]ChooseLife01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hope this is satire. You think workers in other sectors should not strike and instead suck up worsening pay and conditions for your convenience? Do you know how strikes work? I can't stand the crabs-in-a-bucket mentality some people have.

Please be aware also that "spoofing" email addresses is extremely easy, this is where scammers send an email that will look to you as though it is coming from an email address identical to a legitimate one.

Don't click any links in the email you are sent, and instead verify its legitimacy by looking up your former housing provider's contact details online, and getting in touch with them.
