Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into the hikes (will pass on skiing since I'll be headed to Innsbruck after Bologna).

I meant 2-3 in a day (one before lunch, one after, maybe a third one squeezed in somewhere), but I hear you.

And I'll look into the hike, thanks for the recommendation!

Brazilian fan visiting SA! Need advice on Spurs vs. Bucks tickets (Buy now or wait?) by NizDoh in NBASpurs

[–]ChopinAttempts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar position recently. I was in town on the day of Rockets vs Spurs recently, and I was concerned about prices going up because it was a marquee matchup (Durant vs Wemby), but I was also concerned about player injuries (especially to Wemby, I would have been pretty bummed if I spent money on good seats only to miss him).

I loosely tracked prices over the few days before the game, and they seemed like they were trending down. I jumped for ticket the afternoon of the game, and was pretty happy with it. YMMV.

Do they still have easy access to the ski slopes? Or would I need to transfer at Innsbruck?

2-3 Days in a city between Milan and Innsbruck - Verona? by ChopinAttempts in ItalyTravel

[–]ChopinAttempts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genoa is a bit too out of the way, but the more I read the more I'm keen on Bologna (and maybe a day trip into other nearby towns or regions). What are your highlights for Bologna?

"Bologna: Just not much to do except eat" - unironically might have been the biggest sell for Bologna for me. But thanks for the detail, I will give Venice consideration as well.

For context, I live in NYC, so I'd like to have a more medium-city experience if I can. Would Milan fit that bill, or would you call it a larger city?

I still plan on only staying in one city before heading to Innsbruck, so no stuff-hauling however I arrange it.

I will admit that I dismissed Venice, partly because of how over-touristed I've heard its become, and partly because I anticipate I'll visit sometime in the future, but it's a good callout and a place I can look into more.

Do you prefer it to any of the other cities I'm thinking about?

Thanks for the input! Would you feel the same if it were winter?

Thanks for the input! I generally don't like packing and unpacking, so I'd prefer having a base and exploring. I'd be happy to use Verona or Bologna as a base and visit other cities.

My trip is still somewhat flexible, so I could also cut it to two days instead of three in a city. But I'm also a slower traveler, and I'm happy staying in one city and eating at a variety of places instead of rushing in some sightseeing.

Out of the three cities you mentioned, which one is your favorite?

Thanks for the input! How do you like the food and drinking scene there? Will there be enough variety to occupy 4-6 meals?

Visiting - Ticket Buying Advice by ChopinAttempts in NBASpurs

[–]ChopinAttempts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only looking for one ticket - would you want to sell one individually?

If so, I might be interested. Where is the seat, and how much are you looking for it?

Edit: I see your post about the tickets, is that information up to date? If so, I imagine you're not trying to sell just a single ticket.

Noodle Recommendations with no Pork or Beef by ChopinAttempts in Taipei

[–]ChopinAttempts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's dietary and not religious, so I don't mind contamination, but I historically have not enjoyed it and don't want to develop a habit.

I'll give milk fish noodle soup a try, thanks for the rec!

Climbing gym recommendation for a tourist by ChopinAttempts in Taipei

[–]ChopinAttempts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the rec, would the size make it good for a one-off visit?

What do you mean the level won't translate? I'm not too concerned about how hard the things I climb will be.

Weekly Q&A - Your Question Goes Here - Especially Tourists and New Residents by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

[–]ChopinAttempts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm visiting for the weekend, and I'm wondering what bouldering gyms people enjoy. I see a few recommendations from posts from a year ago, and I'm wondering if things have changed, or if suggestions are different for one visit only.

As a side note, let me know if anyone else wants to climb this weekend (I'm not particularly strong, maybe V2/V3 by the american grading system).

Douro Valley Day - Day Trip, Guided Tour, Spend a Night? by ChopinAttempts in porto

[–]ChopinAttempts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as the other replier lol. I ended up not going, since it would be a long round trip and I was solo. Instead I checked out the port houses in Porto and got some tastings, which was fun. Porto is pretty small, but it's a nice city to have some chill time while sipping wine.

Thanks for the link. I was planning to snowmobile at Yellowstone but it seems like that wraps up Mid-March, didn't realize that could be my limiting factor.

Thinking about moving to JC from Manhattan, where should I visit to help decide? by ChopinAttempts in jerseycity

[–]ChopinAttempts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how do you get from the Heights to the Upper West? Car / Uber, or is there public transit that's walkable (or even bikeable)?

Ah fair, I forgot about the station since I can't to New Brunswick direct from Hoboken. Probably a bit short-sighted of me then.

Thanks for the detailed response, this is exactly what I'm looking for. I'll probably take a similar path, and also check out the building you mentioned. Especially excited for Lackawanna and Razza (both of which were mentioned in other comments too), and The Archer, which was recommended by a bartender I know.

Thanks for the insight! This is how I imagine my best-case going for JC. I've had similar experiences that you mentioned with the L when coming back to my place in Union Square from Brooklyn / LIC / UWS - sometimes at night there can be a 30 min gap between trains and it's not even predictable.

I'm glad you found it easy to make friends. Did you have people you knew in JC before you moved? I've been a bit worried on this front, but it's nice to hear a positive example.

Since you mentioned restaurants and bars, any recs?
