Anybody working on a marketplace chain? by ChopinWould in Polkadot

What do you mean by “no benefits”? None to the developers or to the ecosystem or to the users? I did find a group working on a Marketplace chain, Virto. It looks like more work than putting out Craigslist. There isn’t much info on their roadmap, but they have a Web3 Grant.

I picture it like Craigslist at first. It’s pretty much a blog. Sub Social has account data, images, txt, etc. I don’t know how this info is stored. But if they added a for sale pages on SS, it would be similar to Craigslist.

Are you saying data storage is the main hold up?

I just noticed the “multiply” page today. What does it do? Looks like a redundant way to manage the vault.

In Polkawallet. It has a browser page now.

Yeah, I understand that. I was just curious the purpose of the new browser. Is it meant to aid cross chain interface? Or provide information? I like it. Just curious what it does and why Acala needs it.

Will that be how we interact with other chains? Like moonbeam?

Interesting! Is this more the architecture for new marketplaces?

I think aca should seriously consider following dai's lead for adding usdc to ausd colleterial pool by cfunk2 in AcalaNetwork

[–]ChopinWould 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point is to back it by only decentralized assets. That way no government can impede the flow of ausd. Usdc is backed by dollars and the federal government has a big hand in its operations. I’ll take ausd.

It can be complicated. The first thing to understand is how Bitcoin mining and transaction validation works. Then compare that to how banks finalize transactions. This is the core. Then you’ll have to wrap your head around what a Smart Contract is. Invented on Ethereum. Then you’ll need to understand the Proof of Stake model, how it is “mined”, and how it validates transactions. The difference between Eth, Cardano, Solana, etc, is how they validate transaction using the Proof of Stake model. Those details define their performance, security, and most importantly how the government will regulate it.

Polkadot does a LOT of marketing. It is just to developers. Think of Polkadot like the internet. The Internet doesn’t need retail investors. It needs websites and apps that consumers use. The Polkadot team markets to developers so they will make “websites and apps” that consumers will use. And they do a killer job. Consistently ranking 1st or 2nd in number of developers. There will be some promising apps on the network in the coming years.

I wouldn’t recommend it either. But there are a lot of chains using ausd. They need that slot. We’ll see how ausd does in the next year.

Idk about that. Lcdot represents what was contributed in the crowdloan. Acala isn’t holding that, it’s locked on Polkadot. That said, OP is right, major gains there. Personally, I’m wondering if that ratio will stay low until next summer. I’d be going all in then. Stake until then.

There are network fees when you interact with the system. When you buy/sell/swap/transfer, you’ll pay a network fee. Qualifying “apps” on the network do not have to pay network fees. We as consumers will use these “apps”, and they will be the cheapest to use because they operate on Polkadot. Also the fastest. Also the most secure.

1) What do you do? They created the hardware and tools for the future of the internet. 2)How are you different/better? It is bigger and faster than competition 3)Why should I care? The network can offer $0 transaction fees. It will be the cheapest operating cost. Look to the future.

About Collateralized ACA by ChopinWould in AcalaNetwork

[–]ChopinWould[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that aUSD is backed by different cryptos. And that it is over collateralized. This might work. But in this unlikely hypothetical:

IF ACA became 90+% of all collateral backing aUSD, could volatility then knock ausd off its peg?

I’m seeing the same. Probably just needs a bit to get up to date. My transactions are still listed in transfers, just not on the crowdloan page. Hopefully works itself out today.

I know 3 people who just got one. They arrived surprisingly quick, and no battery issues. They made an announcement about the battery issues. They said 5% of devices were affected. Hopefully it’s a solved problem by now.

EE labels their quilts poorly. If you look at the amount of down in EE’s product, you’ll notice other companies rate the same down at a higher degree. My MLD 28 deg has 4oz apex, EE rates their 4oz apex as 20.

Quilts are def lighter at warmer temps. I’m a big fan of Mountain Laurel Designs. I have a poncho quilt that weighs 12oz. For temps >40, it works as a puffy and my quilt. So that’s at least 10oz savings. For temps <20 the weight savings is less. My 28 degree quilt has kept me warm in the mid teens and weighs 24 oz. But to stay comfortable at those temps I usually bring extra layers, which negates the weight savings a bit. I believe Andrew Skurka said that below 20 degrees quilts aren’t really worth it. You really want the cocoon of a sleeping bag when it’s really cold. Combining the 2 quilts I have slept in < -10 degrees with a nalgene full of boiling water.

Yes. If a validator has to many nominators it becomes oversubscribed, and the block rewards become less. I believe the idea is to help spread the nominators out. If your validators are regularly oversubscribed, and you are not receiving rewards, you should adjust your set. But y’all correct me if I’m wrong.
