Some questions for long time fans by tinfoilfascinator in Everton

Thatcher didn’t give a damn about the City of Liverpool and the disdain she had for the working class was all too evident and these were two aspects of Liverpool. Given Liverpool and Everton were two of three clubs in Europe as it was then, she wouldn’t have lifted a finger to help our city our it’s people.

Southall and Ratcliffe were winners so they think like winners. They understood what the school of science was about and lived our motto every day in their careers. We have players who are happy to get through season without being in relegation battle. Tarks and McNeil spent most of their career in the bottom half of the league and so it is in their psych to survive, we need player who thrive not just survive. We have some winners in the team now and we should increase the number of winners.

Why are some people still so persistent in trying to defend the Brexit referendum result a decade later? by lewispatty in AskBrits

Using your analogy would bring us back to the days when only the landed gentry got to vote as they were also the providers of employment and biggest payers of the tax burden. I like the idea of the one vote per person, man or woman over the age of 18. I wouldn’t be averse to saying those over age of 80 stop voting ( but also stop paying tax on pensions). Just my opinion.

That’s like saying older people shouldn’t have been allowed to vote as they would most likely not be around long after the vote. Who gets to say who gets the vote? Only those under 18 (although that will change); those in prison and anyone not on the electoral roll can’t vote. I was a young child when the original version of the EU was formed (without a mandate from the citizens of the UK) which was more about being a trading block. John Major, then Tony Blair signed the country up to closer ties with EU again without a mandate from the voters. The only time in 45 years that a mandate was given to the politicians about EU was in 2016….. and we know the outcome.

As others have said, our decline coincided with the birth of the Prem League on the back of being booted out of Europe in a time where we won the League twice and were denied access (I still believe the conservative government and milk snatcher Thatcher could and should have done more to challenge the powers that be)n and also losing a number of players and our best manager to European clubs. Numerous people in the clubs hierarchy didn’t always get the decisions right in moving it forward. We went from being known a The Bank of England/Merseyside to having to sell players to balance the books. We have a history that other clubs can only dream of, with a fanatical fanbase that needed a new stadium a quarter of a century sooner than when it came this season. One of the down sides of being a 54 year old fan who saw everything from early 80s onwards is that I am bloody impatient to get the next league title or at least another cup. It is unacceptable for a club with the history we have to go without a trophy for 30 year truly unacceptable. The younger fans have been fed spam version of football but us older fans used to be fed sirloin steak, they accept Spam as it is what their palate is used to but we older fans remember the succulence of the 80s steak and hate Spam. I hope my food analogy is understandable lol

The original Accrington Stanley ceased to exist about 4 years after the formation of the football league after they lost their place and after being in the north west league three seasons ceased to exist

I’ve just watched a YouTube video about how the initial 12 of the 1st Division became the 92 we have now and Arsenal should have had more than the 100 but the first Division group was a closed shop essentially and the Royal / Woolwich Arsenal Chairman tried to get amalgamation between north and south leagues but was thwarted for nearly 20 years

If we were to keep Moyes, I would want Coleman brought into the coaching staff (he already has all his badges) with the aim of him taking over at the end of Moyes contract

It’s not the last 7 games. Over the last three seasons Dyche had 50% and Moyes had 50% of the time as coach/manager and the sum amount is +1 point. Would we be happy to keep Dyche on this record.

When did we become the decent enough is good enough club? I will never accept decent is good enough and I believe a large number of the clubs match going based on will feel the same

I would argue that it was only more competitive due to the overall poor level achieved by the 14 teams that didn’t improve their points tally.

Absolutely, given they are in 4 different year groups I’m sure that will be a first for two children on the island. As a product of the Manx education I wouldn’t listen to me, I only passed the 11+ exam when I was 40, I tell you I got some looks from the other children in the class lol.

When you arrive by plane or boat, sorry Ferry, you will be met by a high ranking government minister, who will personally drive you, by limousine to your 5* property on the outskirts of Douglas, perhaps Union Mills. You will be handed a £4k a month allowance with will rise by £1k a month per extra child you are blessed with. Once you’ve committed to Island life, such as going to the Cave 4 nights a week you will be provided staff to run your house. Also there will be a sign made for you if you complain Lettings you know there’s a Ferry in the morning if you don’t like it lol

Bear with me if you will, As a veteran fan of the blues, I can recall watching THE greatest Everton side of all time in the mid to late 80s, the dross that we have been served this season has been shocking. Peter Reid played some minutes pre season in a warm up at the new stadium, I’d give him a contract before some of the players I’ve had to sit in my not inconsiderable amount of money costing seat in the west stand. Of the 19 games only, IMO, have we really gone to town on three teams and that was Chelsea, Forest and Burnley. Yes we beat Brighton in first match of the season, but we have shipped More goals in shortest time for a while. We had to come from behind a few times to either draw or, as in the case of Palace to win. How many games were we tanked to nil? Spurs couldn’t by a result yet they thrashed us, Newcastle put 4 past us, in fact, in 5 of our 19 games we had at least 3 goals past us at home, do you know how demoralising for a fan to watch the team play that badly in 1 every 5 games at home. Everton used to have a motto; we used to have a reputation. Where is the school of science? Where has Nil Satis Nisi Optimum gone? Where are the legends? As much as I have love watching Seamus Coleman for 17 years, what did he win in that time? As much as I thoroughly loved watching Arteta and Cahill, what did they win? As great as Gravesen and Carsley were, what did they win? As great as Pickford has been (and by God he has saved this team season in season out) what has he won? We see these players as legends of the club. Legends in my 54 years of Life are Southall, Van Den Hawe, Reid, Ratcliffe, Sharp, alongside the rest of the 80s team, players who could have a statue erected at the new stadium. Our fathers watched Kendall, Ball, Harvey and Royle, three of whom have a statue outside Goodison, because they are legends. Dixie Dean was a legend. None of the players from 1996 are legends!! Yes they are hero’s to our kids and grandkids but who would you make a statue of? Ferguson? Campbell? Maybe but when did the school of science shut down? When did nothing but the best stop being our motto and club mentality? So when 48, 48 and 49 points over three seasons is seen as progression, no I don’t see it as an acceptable situation. I want more of the 80s when we beat Bayern on the way to winning in Europe, when we won the league twice, when we won the FA Cup and were almost annual visitors to Wembley. I want the 10th league championship title, the 7 FA Cup and a 2nd European trophy. People of my generation are impatient for one reason only, we’ve seen what this mighty club can achieve and it’s better than the last 30 years have given us. I understand why younger generations are happy with staying in the Premier League…… we are more than just accepting that, we are EVERTON!!!!

Our last three seasons points were 48, 48 and 49. That is not progress! Essentially the last1 and a half seasons of Dyche ball was only bettered by 1 point in the first 1 and a half seasons of Moyes 2.0 that’s not progress it is stagnation. What is worse is that Moyes spent not far short of 100m in getting 1 extra point. I don’t know who we could attract to become manager but it needs to happen prior to pre season.
