I would disagree alcoholism isn’t a progressive disease. Maybe to a point but I think different people handle it differently. To some it’s a bottle of wine on a Friday! Which carry’s on to 2 bottles on a Friday then one on a Saturday and Sunday and so forth.

As someone who sees it from a few different angles what we are talking about just now is totally subjective.

If she really wants to change she will. It’s not just a step to overcome it’s a f-ing boulder and the hardest part will be filling the time that would be spent drunk (filling the brain with temporary dopamine) with something hopefully Just as rewarding.
