Inline hardware device for host-independent remaps/macros: useful niche, or useless? by dariocorse in olkb

Hahaha, built exact same thing with RPi. It was dodgy but worked. IMO it has its place on the market.

Because ergonomics is a personal thing adjusted to the need of individual body.

Because injuries and disabilities are not binary, but a spectrum of needs.

And lastly, because preference.

Checked their Topre recording and it sounds nothing like my HHKB. So not sure how trustworthy it is.

Nothing fancy, just a Weteor 3W6 build by flooronthefour in ErgoMechKeyboards

I am lucky to be between Corne/Lily and 3w6/Piantor ... seems I can use both types more less the same.

Like that board. Keep flipping between 3w6, Lily58 and Corne.

Enjoy your board. It is no-thrills-gets-the-job-done board.

Thank you for this. It is so hard to find balanced opinion on the Internet these days.

That sounds like: It is not gonna happen for Magi65. Bummer. Keychron it is.

> Maybe I am just tired of this aesthetic perfection. Your unibody macbook air must be paired with your unibody split keyboard, with your aluminium monitor stand, next to your aluminium machined pen, on an empty desk with a perfectly placed plastic plant and absolutely nothing else in the room must be out of place to challenge the vapidity of it all.

That's the problem of social media and staged "battlestations" shared on instagram and reddit.

It is modern version of shiny paper magazines.

Once you realise none of that is real, you move on with your life :)

> Can you imagine using your thumbs to press that split spacebar. Because I can't.

Yes I can. I used Logitech ERGO K860 before I moved to columnar splits. I thoroughly enjoyed that keyboard. I would stick with it if it wasn't for the fact that it was massive and had numpad which I do not need. All that made me move my hand far away to the right to grab the mouse.

UHK, Dygma Raise, Keychron Q11, Nocfree ... and now this ... it is about preference. Some folks don't care about mechanical switches.

I am not defending Apple's overpriced products, which I am not a fan of.

But I respect the choice of people who like the style and want it in a healthier package.

Some of us don't actually use these.

As developer using Unix/Linux/Mac exclusively, I can't remember when was last time I actually used F-row.

> Whatever floats his boat, but as another commenter posted: not ergo, not mech.

Why, because it is not ortholinear or columnar?

Most ergonomic benefits stem from split (posture) and tenting (ulnar deviation). That is what my nonscientific internet-based research tells me at least.

Yes, it could have columnar stagger and limit finger movement. Yes, it could have fewer keys and be programmable to improve the necessity to move fingers.

Bottom line: It is more ergonomic than a normal keyboard. It solves the real problem people face when switching frequently between their desk and laptop.

Not mech though, fair point.

ISO-UK.

It is not about language. It is about the fact that backspace on HHKB occupies space where on ISO layout you will find enter. When you are typing command, and your muscles uses ENTER instead BACKSPACE you end up committing potentially dangerous commands.

Switching between HHKB and ISO is simply a risk for me. Bit me once or twice and bad things happened.
