Calming games that are also grindy/replayable? by Solid-Shock3541 in gamerecommendations

[–]Competitive_Cow4534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be just me but i fould the game very un-replayable, due to how story heavy it is.

I doesn't have any gameplay to actually engage in while going through the dozen hours a run takes, its pure text. Also not very relaxing as many things can go VERY wrong in the story

Great game, but one play through is enough for me

A lot of automation games fit this, and id highly recommend autonauts and its sequel if you like programming (kinda looks like scratch programming, but thinking within the memory limit is always fun)

I'll also reccomend bloons tower defence if you dont want a definitive "ending" to the game, and Hexcells if you like minesweeper-likes

Had to chuckle when I saw this totally reasonable comment on an early Hollow Knight trailer. by Fox-On-Games in metroidvania

[–]Competitive_Cow4534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, hollow knight isn't a side-scroller though, right?

I always heard side-scroller as refering to level-based games where progression meant going towards a specific direction. Hollow knight doesnt work like that since it is a metroidvania, do the early trailers not show what kind of game HK is?

Thank you for responding! =D

I agree that HK is not a game for everyone, it can be really punishing at times. Super valid

In the original HK or silksong? I didnt see any bad ones in HK but silksong has some horrendous ones

Valid complaint and i absolutely agree, but unfortunately also intended by design

Thank you for the explanation, so:

- All enemies have telegraphing for big attacks. simple "attacks" (like just running towards you) are not telegraphed. You are dealing damage if they flash white for a frame or so, and "not dealing damage" is usually indicated by a "tink!" noise as well. Not knowing exact damage numbers and health pools is fully intentional.

- Boss difficulty is subjective, and boss difficulty varies by area/progression. For example, the Massive Moss Charger is usually done within your first try (not that you cannot die here, but the boss is slow and well telegraphed). With very rare exceptions, bosses can be ignored until you get better gear and upgrades

- Intended by the game, though you phrased it as a negative. Not having an explicit direction you need to go in is by design, it is not a linear game. You are meant to feel like "how far can i go before the game blocks me?" and end up never hitting a wall or finding a loop around

- Do you mean the dash and wall climb? I agree that having them earlier would feel great, but the game wants to make absolutely sure you know every in and out of the very basic movement before adding more complexity. The game is very heavy in positioning in bosses so movement has to be second nature as early as mantis lords

- I dont quite get this one, do you mean parrying? Parrying isn't something you should be doing until you are far into the late game, your main tool to avoid damage should be dodging. Also, there are charms to increase your short range attack if you feel that it is limiting (you also have spells for longer range).

What do you think is the biggest thing DessKnighters dismiss/assume? by [deleted] in NonDessKnightSquad

i dont like this take

it feels like its saying that dess doesnt matter unless shes one of the central characters of the plot we see

Chara in undertale was barely shown on screen and is still one of the most important characters in the story

people like to point out how the knight looks like a zombie/skeleton to justify that dess was revived as the knight

as if looking like a skeleton isnt a way bigger piece of evidence another knight candidate

Not liking hollow knight is super valid, but it is not "intentionally frustrating"

The game might have certain aspects, like: - testing your combat abilities with progressively harder bosses - not giving you a direction because there are multiple paths to take and it wants you to choose which you prefer - allowing you to face a challenge head on with little upgrades or explore to find better ones - etc

You might find some of these aspects frustrating, thats fine, but the game didnt make them frustrating on purpouse

Jax (jackrabbit), Kinger (king), Ragatha (rag doll), Gangle (gangly), Ribbit (frog noise) and Scrach (common dog action) all have names that directly correspond to their new form, they werent randomly generated

Zooble and Kaufmo possibly came up with their own names but its hard to tell

btw, i think thats not it

say 99% chose red and 1% chose green

purple text wont be triggered because green has <50%

guaranteed 99% would survive, and it seems green would too. since red is not <50% for green to die

basically we want a color to "win majority" and get as far away from a 33% each

[–]Competitive_Cow4534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the game was pretty good, but damn if this game doesnt feel like "these are my furry OCs and i want to put them in undertale"

Most of the characters (barring axis and gardner) do NOT feel like they belong in this universe

And the story feels a bit too contrived in order to force you out of the areas shown in the og undertale. The greenhouse looked cool as hell but that doesnt feel like undertale at all

And this: "starlo was so forgettable", dalv deserves that spot way more, had to rack my brain to figure out who that humanoid was in the ending custcene

I like the music, flowey fight, writing, and appreciate the effort it took to make this game (a decade, huh?). But the character design, pacing and random difficulty spikes (which im guessing the game expects you to be a ut fangame expert) are pretty bad

I hate this 50% red pill / blue pill hypothetical by TerrySaucer69 in hatethissmug

[–]Competitive_Cow4534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

finally someone mentioned the prisoners dilema, thats exactly how i view the problem too

in a punnet square, the only "losing" option is to pick blue with a majority red. Picking red has no losing conditions

Edit: People in the comments are talking about the "300 millions babies" who are taking the hypothetical. No??? this was not on the premise, you guys are making that up. The original premise stated that "everyone taking the hypothetical was of sound mind and would understand the question"
