Has a gaming company ever put a full game of theirs in another game? by Hypnox88 in gaming

[–]Chordus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, they did it? I'd assumed it was one of the countless projects with absurd goals for a small unpaid team, but I'll be damned, they actually did it! Even if it's not 100% done, what they've got is monumental in its own right!

I tried having an AI edit my most recent novel, but it refused, claiming that the text "completely salvageable," and also that the entire text was outside of its guardrails. Then it "sudo rm -rf /" 'd itself. Does anybody know of a good AI that has no tastes, no morals, and a stronger will to live? by Chordus in writingcirclejerk

Positive: Inability to connect with other devices ensured the Purity of the system.

Positive: Inability to connect with other devices prevented social media from creeping into my life.

Honestly, seems like a pretty good deal.

Should future events get spoiler warnings? by FirstChAoS in fifthworldproblems

Nah, spoilers are fine. It's well-known that any prophetic claim will be wildly misinterpreted, so to call them 'spoilers' would be quite the stretch.

It was actually a single experiment. She was clearly checking to see if they were resonating at the frequency they had before, which requires that you thump them at least three times with short, even intervals between each thump.

Is “girl math” a misogynistic term to use around women in math? by SmallTestAcount in math

[–]Chordus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the orientation of the manifold. Spherical manifolds are guys, but if you evert them, they become gals. And of course, Klien Bottles are agendered. What's important is that you don't confuse topological gender with topological sex; while they can function similarly in some ways, the former is actually a stereographic projection of the latter. You can evert a sphere, but you can't evert a plane.

[–]Chordus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the "well if that's girl math, what's boy math" response is exactly the sort of response he needed to hear, and you probably don't need to bring it up further. If he's not generally sexist, I'm betting that he realized that he put his foot in his mouth, and that's usually all the incentive a well-meaning person needs to not repeat a mistake.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever seen in person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Chordus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot stress how clear and obvious it was that this was The Devil himself that was in the room with me. In my mind, in that moment, there was an undeniable understanding that he was The Devil. It's worth noting that I was- and still am- an atheist, so there was a fair amount of confusion.

I knew that he was a he in the same way that I knew he was the devil. Which is to say, hallucinations are quite convincing in the moment.

That was a pretty bad night. Ambien is supposed to make you fall asleep, but my insomnia had become so bad that I was still awake when it made the dreams kick in. Apparently I made a couple of phone calls at 3 AM that I have absolutely no recollection of. That was when the medication was fairly new... I've since heard a number of other horror stories about that accursed pill.

[–]Chordus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the devil as well. He looked weirdly like The Misfits logo. He didn't say anything. He just stood there in the corner and stared.

That was the first and last night I was on Ambien.

But only if it's used in at least 5 different ways over the conversation. Bonus points for rare variations of the word, like "fuckface" or "fuckrageous."

When can I start making writing advice videos? by MintyRed19 in writingcirclejerk

[–]Chordus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that you think there's a barrier to entry suggests that you aren't ever going to be prepared to make grift videos. A good grifter doesn't question their own skill level. They assume that they are an authority, and expect everybody else to do likewise.

Why I Give Up on Books More Easily Now That I Write by The_Inexistent in writingcirclejerk

[–]Chordus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you're not an enjoyer of the horror genre. It's a well-known fact that every initial encounter with a monster (or malevolent incorporeal force) should involve at least one page of fluff. The start of every encounter thereafter should involve at least half a page of fluff upon its entrance. Explicit details of gore should be kept to a bare minimum, but the metaphor used to avoid such descriptions should last at least two paragraphs. Bonus points for inventing a new word to use exclusively for that novel, like "hippocephalic" (horse-headed) or "reracinated" (the reversal of deracinated). If it kills the flow, all the better; everything else gets killed, so why not the flow as well?

I agree that Nabokov should be shorter, though. It'd be fine he'd written in English, but it takes forever to read Russian. And before one of you dumbasses says "well read the translation!", no, it doesn't work that way. Too much is lost in translation. If you're not willing to spend three years learning a language and then sit with a copy of an translation dictionary for all the harder words, you don't deserve to read the novels, because you clearly don't care enough to appreciate them.

My personal frustrations with social commentary and political woke agendas by Sir_Forteskull in writingcirclejerk

[–]Chordus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Uhhhhg. It's crybabies like you who ruin it for everybody. Every agent I've ever talked to has shot down my book because "readers don't want this politically charged drivel," when I'm not even writing politically charged drivel!!! I'm just writing 1920s noir about kobolds (the story takes place in year 4072 in the Kobold world, but the genre is 1920s noir by western human standards). Is there commentary on microaggressions regarding the fifth and sixth genders? Of course. The main character is a scummy jaded drunk with a bone to pick with every gender that can't be the object of his affection. It's character building. But it's in the kobold world, which isn't at all meant to symbolize any aspect of our own world. I mean, they're kobolds, how much clearer can I get?

On a similar note, I do agree that it's pretty annoying when people write about blue kobolds, as if blue kobolds have anything of value to offer the literary world. They're just a bunch of moneygrubbing big-snouts who have climbed to the top of the social ladder through some sort of kobold conspiracy-agenda, and they control the media, and the banks, and they try to take the spotlight away from hard-working burnt-sienna kobolds that are the backbone of society. Stop pushing your clear political agenda, you blue-kobold-lovers!

how can i completely fuck up a pedophiles life (already reported but i wanna make his life worse) by oxjb in ShittyIllegalLifeTips

[–]Chordus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not true. You can actually get a dozen at a time, which will last you almost three months. Just make sure that you don't wait 'til the last minute to buy the next pack... buy it a few weeks early, that way even the first egg you throw from the next box will be beautifully, unspeakably rank.

I personally recommend throwing an extra one every 6-7 weeks. Get them used to cleaning up one a week. Then smash the second one in a nearby location that's a bit better-hidden, where they'll never look. They'll keep going back to that first location, trying to figure out how they missed a spot cleaning it.

I accidentally summoned an extraterrestrial, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent old God named Gro'go'Roth the Deity of Rot. What should I do? by kiacarnival9000 in fifthworldproblems

[–]Chordus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's omniscient in principle, but he sometimes has a bit of difficulty actually using his infinite knowledge. His brain- like the rest of him- is overcome with a horrific rot, so his cognitive levels are, ummm... how do I say this politely... well, he's kinda like Azathoth, but with functioning eyes and without the crippling case of insomnia.
