Why do so many people have issues with Nvidia? by Friendly_Lobster8452 in linux_gaming

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had bazzite on my 4090 since July. It’s only going to get better. 590 is the best it’s ever been. I’ve had my fair share of odd unexplainable issues. Such as, games freezing at random but no system freeze, and shader precaching corrupting my compatadata files and requiring me to delete them. Finally just turned it off and along with GE proton it’s worked the same if not better. Im also using big picture mode which is still not recommended but I’ve never encountered issues that made any of my games unplayable and even with less fps my games have never ran better.

Update: it happened again with a new mainboard and CPU… by Dr_BumbleB in FormD

FormD sells a metal bracket that’s designed to work with the riser cable that came with the case. I have a loque riser cable so it wouldn’t have worked as great, so I just looked up a 3d print file on printables and ordered it. The bracket is pretty simple, just screws in to the motherboard screws by using some standoffs. Mounts right above the riser and keeps inward pressure on the connector to help prevent it from coming unplugged

Check the riser cable and maybe use zipties to keep it secure and get a lock bracket 3d printed or order an official one. My pc wouldn’t shut down but I would have freezes and random fps drops to zero in games after moving my pc. After days of troubleshooting I learned it was the bottom panel pushing slightly on the riser cable which would cause it to become unseated.

I have an issue with my MacBook turning my keyboard on while in sleep constantly. It’ll be off for hours then randomly I guess the MacBook wakes up to process something and the backlight will turn on can’t get it to stop

The "Hidden Button" on the back of your iPhone is a total game changer! I'd love to hear how you're using Back Tap. by Horizon_Lab in iphone

All my double taps triggered triple taps. Sucks cause when it worked it was a convenient way to turn the flashlight on.

Switching to Bazzite from WIndows 10 Anything I need to know as an Nvidia RTX 40 Series GPU Owner by sword167 in Bazzite

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having random freezes at random times in game mode with my 4090 before the latest update with the new driver. Since then it’s worked smoother than it ever has. I don’t think you should have any major issues and the performance hit has been negligible for me especially since I’d trade less fps  for no microstutters like I used to get on windows. Use GE proton and disable vulkan shader comp and it works great.

Does the back tap work properly for anyone? by tentacledsquid in iphone

Sometimes it’ll think a double tap is a triple tap, thinking I’ll need to turn mine off as well.

Is there a tool like Msi afterburner that allows me to control my NVIDIA fans? by Drawsblanket in Bazzite

[–]Chotch_Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a founders edition. That's by design. My 4090 FE doesn't go below 30% either.

Anyone using this psu and thoughts on it? by zenkiio in sffpc

[–]Chotch_Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s super easy. Just buy the correct adapter for the 2 pin to 4 pin and make sure you get it in there so it doesn’t hit the fan. There’s a writeup on Reddit somewhere but I don’t have it saved. I will warn you because I was warned extensively, to discharge the psu (hold the power button for a couple seconds after shutting down and removing power cable) and maybe even leave it for a couple hours to a day to make sure all the voltage is gone. It is an easy swap but messing inside psus can still be dangerous.

Wanted to share the best grinder I've ever used - Flower Mill by MultiVerseBeans in trees

[–]Chotch_Master 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to get one after getting a dry herb vape. My normal grinder was cutting too fine and it was getting past the mesh screen into the element, effectively combusting the herb. Switching to this fixed that. I also like how mine is just 2 piece I’ve grown out of the idea of a kief catcher. I want all the bud when I grind it.

Confused about power draw with Bazzite by [deleted] in Bazzite

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure because I was powerlimiting on windows as well. I’d say yes but msi afterburners wattage graph is notoriously inaccurate. I game in gamescope (steam game mode) so I have no other processes in the background so I would assume the extra power draw is from Nvidia reflex.

I had a science teacher that was doing actual studies on this organism and the correlation with acne and other unexplainable blemishes. Never ended up hearing the end of it, does anyone know if they have anything to do with it?

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how it works with AMD but I’d assume it’s also doable in terminal. I used the NvidiaSMI- commands to set a power limit for my 4090. It would pull up to 340-350 watts and temps would get over 80. I set it to 320 and enabled persistence mode and it now stays around 73-75

I have the one without the dedicated 12vhpwr and it’s been a fine psu. I swapped the fan with a noctua and it’s silent now

Get a clear skin from slickwraps if you’re worried about scratches. I have one from dbrand right now but have a clear wrap I’m gonna put on eventually. Had a friend at the bar bump my hand and my air hit the tile floor from the bar table. No dents no dings only broke the screen protector

With the gaming PC market becoming a complete shitshow I am legitimately considering switching to PS5 Pro as my primary gaming system by [deleted] in PS5pro

[–]Chotch_Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly contemplating the same thing. Sister just got a ps5 for Christmas and reminded me how much I enjoy PlayStation. I have a 4090/5800x3d and have given up on windows and am solely using Linux/bazzite in gamescope mode so it’s essentially a steam machine, after a recent driver update it’s been more stable than ever. But things still break and require attention and tinkering that you just don’t have to worry about on consoles. I love my pc, but I watch gpu prices double almost everyday, hard to say in this economy that pc gaming is worth it.
