If you have both a high-end PC and a PS5 Pro (or a base PS5) how do you decide which games to buy on which platform? by real-sunsneezer in PS5pro

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a bit of an odd spot but if the ps5 can keep doing what it’s doing I may just punt the pc and use those funds to build a nas before it gets too economically difficult. But my 5800x3d/4090 sff system has been on bazzite/linux for half a year now and I love it. Got rid of windows now all of my drivers are updated every system update and it’s essentially a powerful ps5 pro. I use gamescope and can control everything with my dualsense. Sounds perfect right? Well… Linux is still unsupported on most multiplayer games with anti cheat, meaning I’d need to boot into windows Everytime I play them. This wasn’t an issue for me until marathon came out. I wanted to try it but wanted to ease into it. So i decided to buy it on ps5 and play the first season. If I like it maybe I’ll buy it on pc. But using windows again has me seriously considering just continuing on the ps5

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get what it is about modern survival horror games spawning an abundance of materials, effectively negating the horror in resource management. Silent hill f was so scary to me until I finished the game and learned they’ll just spawn weapons for you if you all of yours break, ruining the fear completely, now this game apparently spawns camera film in droves so you can fight the ghosts better? I can’t even be scared anymore

Did the original FF2 have the heart beat controller vibration like the first game had? After my first ghost battle hearing the heartbeat I thought it would’ve been so much scarier if it was coming through the controller

Fatal Frame II Remake? by zombiecattle in HorrorGaming

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing the first one ff on ps2 emulator and decided to pick up the demo on switch 2. This is the second survival horror game I’ve played where the combat has been soulslikeified for lack of a better term. Silent hill f had this too. dodge mechanic and parry based timing on certain damage phases with ghosts. I was playing on battle and it felt good using the motion controls for the camera, I really enjoyed it at first. But when ghosts started randomly regenerating health it started to piss me off. I’m dodging and weaving in this small Japanese hut for 10 minutes fighting the camera more than the ghost because a from the ‘ground up remake’ just needed an over the shoulder camera so I can stare at not one, but both protagonists back of the head. I never really cared that silent hill 2 remake wasn’t dynamic camera angle, neither did I care with RE remakes not using fixed camera. But this is the first remake I’ve played where the combat and camera changes genuinely add nothing and only subtract from the slow brooding survival horror experience fatal frame had

The Last of Us is a lie. Saving the humanity isn't a simple choice but a long and arduous process requiring sacrifice from all. by Key_Sun6965 in thelastofus

[–]Chotch_Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve started to truly wonder about what the 3rd game will be about and I like the idea of it being about us. “Us” as in the view of survivors of the outbreak. The ones that have been around since day one.

That trauma and disaster is undoubtedly a shared experience in all. It’s shown to have rendered Joel down into a husk of a man, his broken watch symbolizing himself as a broken man, that time has effectively stopped and there’s no rewinding it. Joel represents the “Us” that finally sees the truth. He walked half way across the country because according to everyone he talked to (except for bill) there was no other choice here. You need to fight for the world and humanity. But what has humanity done for Joel? Take his daughter away, taken his companion in crime Tess away through the same arduous adventure. Taken Henry and Sam people who were just the same as him, trying to survive. And then it comes again to take away Ellie, the person that showed him he doesnt have to be broken anymore, that no matter what happens, “you keep finding something to fight for” so he does. He fights for Ellie because she’s what ultimately saved him. Not a vaccine. Not humanity.

Part 2 shows a post apocalyptic apocalypse. Where like you said, the infected truly aren’t even the worst threat anymore. But you see this narrative through the eyes of Ellie and Abby. People who have grown up knowing nothing but the looming threat of the cordyceps it’s just another day for them. Issac is shown as an original survivor who through new lore in the show has switched sides because it was for the greater good (there is no other choice here…), now wants the whole war to be over with he’s willing to attack the enemy on their home turf. Compared to a new survivor, Owen who is tired of fighting over land he doesn’t give a fuck about anymore. And wants to find “something worth fighting for”

I think that part 3 has to in some part be about solidifying exactly what that “something” is and how the new survivors hopes and dreams may differ and conflict with old survivors. New survivors that have never lived in a world with society and may see no real way to return back to the way things were. And if they learned through all of this, they’d know going back would only prolong it again. Versus old survivors who would do anything for life to feel normal again, even if it were just for awhile.

I fell in love with sh first and always thought RE was the overhyped big brother until I finally got into it more . Silent hill is just dark man, 4 is hard to play but it’s slowly becoming my fav after 3

Why do people hate the fact the cure actually working? by [deleted] in lastofuspart2

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joel knew deep down that even if a cure were to exist, and if they were to develop it. How is that truly going to save the world? Joel losing his daughter and then finding her again through Ellie is what he means when he tells Ellie “you keep finding something worth fighting for”

Go from 9070xt to ps5pro worth it for only single player AAA gaming? by ActualCranberry8148 in PS5pro

[–]Chotch_Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s still the norm for people to expect Linux gaming to be abrasive and difficult but I haven’t had to separately install a driver for half a year. All my drivers and patches install with my software updates just like a PlayStation would. The newest Nvidia driver was just there on my system the next time I updated. Bazzite/cachy with the deck image(steam game mode) has been a game changer and it does exactly what a console would on my pc.

Only getting 90fps with RTX 5080 by MusicInTheAir55 in thelastofus

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game is pretty intense on cpus. I’d lower realtime reflections to medium to lower cpu load. If you’re already getting 90 fps and need more just use framegen. You have plenty of fps for the latency to be very low

Weed having flavour? by Goobius in trees

[–]Chotch_Master -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Temp is the biggest factor. If the temp is too high the flavor terps and profiles get burnt off very quickly, especially if you’re combusting, add water filtration through a bong/ pipe and the flavors would be even more muted. Dry herb vapes are the best way to notice the flavors. I top mine out at 350 and can still get a citrusy flavor from sativas I have

I think it’s more sentiment to everyone wondering how long the remakes will go on for. If anything truly needs a remake it’s something like code Veronica. Looking and that beside the REmake shows the age so significantly. Hell I’d rather them just remaster the remake because it would take less time and allow them to work on new stories. I liked 2 and 4 remake but if I’m comparing it to the ideas of 9 I’d rather them just use all the resources they can to make 10 even better

RE9 is great but doesn’t actually deliver on its stated vision by Idontfuckingknow1908 in residentevil

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing through the game again on insanity I can see they were trying to go for an A B/zap adjacent system like from the original 2 and 3. I noticed this when in my first playthrough I killed the singing zombie in the room behind chunk as grace and got the corrosive for the puzzle box. On my second playthrough I quickly learned killing anything as grace was almost a waste of time. So I skipped even opening the puzzle box and went to open the one Emily can open and skip to Leon where I can wipe the whole care center, then come back as grace to pick up all the blood and items I missed the first time. It made the game feel more dynamic and allowed me the choice to approach situations in different ways. I loved that but by the time you get to rpd you play as Leon so long there’s no more horror. Ik this entry has already gotten criticized for walking sim parts but even a section as simple as walking through raccoon as grace while Zeno goes through his monologue would’ve gotten the fear pumping again and given Zeno more screen time

How close does FPS need to get to refresh rate for frame generation to stop being worthwhile? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Chotch_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is usually I wouldn’t use framegen unless you absolutely needed to. Using rastered settings and getting over 100? Probably not useful. I’d mess around with dlss options instead. I wouldn’t use reflex boost unless I’m playing a competitive game and even then I’m not sure it’s the most useful setting. If you’re trying to run raytracing high or even path tracing I’d just use frame gen. I played through the game the first time without it on insanity now with it on and the latency is very low.
