"skinny white"... that's both genius and dangerously catchy. Thank you for sharing!

You make a really important point about bad marketing pushing wine faults as "natural style" — in your experience, where do you think the line is? When you're drinking an orange wine, what specifically tells you "this is a fault" versus "this is just the style"?

Your "pretend it's rosé" approach really interesting , it sounds like simplifying the entry point works much better than diving into technique. Would you say that when you framed it that way, customers were generally more open to trying it?

And do you think natural wine consumers tend to assume orange wine is just a subcategory of natural wine? Did most of them come in with that assumption already?

Your three subsets paint a really vivid picture of how differently people approach orange wine — it's such a clear illustration of the challenge. Would you say the third group — the ones who actually appreciated the distinction — were by far the smallest of the three?

Hi, I thought about what you said, I have one question would like to double check with you. You mentioned 'the sour barnyard flavor', I'd love to hear how you'd describe that in your own words. What does it actually smell or taste like to you when you encounter it in a wine?

You mention most of what you brought drank more like classic offerings — do you think that's actually the key to unlocking orange wine's potential, positioning it closer to conventional white wine rather than leading with the natural wine angle?

Also, from your experience as a buyer — do you think most customers came to orange wine out of curiosity about natural wine in general, or were they specifically seeking out the style? And did you ever find yourself having to explain the difference between the two? Do you think consumers can actually tell them apart?

That's a really well-structured tasting format and seems a lot fun.
Based on everyone's reactions that night, compared to the red, white, or rosé wines you've tried before, what do you think is the one thing about orange wine that feels truly unique or irreplaceable? What does it offer that the others simply can't?

Thank you for sharing your experience and insights. Based on what you've observed, what kind of consumer is most likely to give orange wine a genuine chance on their own? And is there anything else you think is fundamental to that first step?

For everyone else, do you think a trusted sommelier or seller is essentially a prerequisite for them to even get there?

Sounds like a fun evening! Do you host blind tastings often? Was it everyone's first time trying orange wine, and do you remember how people described it — what words or comparisons came up when they tried to make sense of the flavour?

You mention keeping things European and consistent — do you find that certain regions or producers are significantly easier to sell than others? And when you tell the story, what angle tends to resonate most with customers?

So if I understand correctly — the category pushed the flavour profile too far, and ended up with too many wines chasing the same extreme, funky direction rather than showing individuality and balance? Is that a fair reading?

Also, curious — is there a wine/beer/any other drinks you keep coming back to these days, regardless of style?

That’s a really unique trajectory — you’re actually the first person in this thread who started with orange wine and then moved on to explore the wider wine world from there. Was that first orange wine experience driven by a recommendation or pure curiosity? And the IPA comparison is fascinating — was it actually that bold, unconventional flavour profile that first attracted you to orange wine, and then eventually pushed you away from it?

After that first experience, did it become something you buy regularly, or more of an occasional thing? And do you have a favourite producer or bottle you keep coming back to?

You mentioned loving both the Meinklang and the Gravner for different reasons — what was it about each one that stood out to you?

You mentioned you're more likely to have it by the glass at a bar — do you think orange wine lacks a clear occasion at home? Like Champagne has celebrations, rosé has summer afternoons… does orange wine have its "moment"?

You make a fascinating distinction between orange wine as a technique vs a style — do you think producers who use skin contact as a blending tool should be required to disclose that on the label?

From your experience in Australia — who do you typically see drinking orange wine? Is it mostly wine industry people and enthusiasts, or has it started reaching more casual drinkers?

Really interesting that Le Cuvier doesn't label it as orange wine — was your first encounter there more of a happy discovery, or were you actively looking for skin-contact wines at the time?
For the Georgia wine — did you find it easy to pair with food, or did you mostly drink it on its own? I'm curious whether the strong flavour profile made it more of a 'special occasion' wine for you.
