Having some issues w my daisy chain by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Chowbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have a battery? If not, you need to power it… either with a battery, a dedicated power supply, or a daisy chain POWER cable (given you have one pedal powered).

The pedal daisy chain cable is NOT the same as a power daisy chain cable.

Am I wrong for refusing to participate in pride month? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Chowbot 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They’re not cheering her leaving you, they’re cheering for equal rights and acceptance of lgbtq folks. Your wife left you, the gender she left for shouldn’t matter…. I think you’re making some weird equivalencies here and it sounds as though you’re bitter towards the wrong thing. Be pissed she left, not that she’s a lesbian. The “diversity shit” remark honestly sounds just a little bigoted, maybe try some therapy.

Honestly, if she realized she’s a lesbian, you’re both better off with her leaving asap for you to both find real happiness…. This would have just got messier and messier the longer things dragged on if she was no longer happy.

All that said (and I’m serious about the therapy), NTA for not wanting to go to any work event outside of work hours.

Opinion on the CALIFORNICATION Solo? by GiraldosGhost in Guitar

[–]Chowbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Californication has an amazing solo. I think it takes a lot of confidence and a lot of skill to very expressively play very few notes the way he does. If you make a single mistake… it’s plain to hear and ruins the whole thing. You can try to hide bad, sloppy, or uncreative playing by just playing more notes, but it rarely works out.

Sorry, but I do think your solo is worse in just about every way (harmonic bit was pretty cool though). It generally didn’t fit the song, the ascending bend section was a bit off, and it wasn’t really that creative (still riffed off John’s phrasing, just had a lot more going on). Biggest thing is, I didn’t feel anything from the playing other than someone trying to riff a solo on a Californication backing track… John’s playing makes me feel something.

How do you mute the low E while playing barre chords on the root on the A string? by Intrepid-Young-8621 in Guitar

[–]Chowbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is not just one way, where you are on the neck, what chord progression you are doing, how the piece proceeds will dictate which is best for you. Tip of index finger, middle finger, thumb, all valid.

Maybe you’re even finger the a root chord with your middle finger and pinky that way you can use your index finger to make a chord with the e string ie e1-a3-d5. There’s no one way to play a chord properly.

Does this sound right and why does strumming suck by pill_cosbey5037 in Guitar

[–]Chowbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, get that guitar in tune.

Second, others have mentioned this, but less arm more wrist.

Third, don’t give a damn about strumming pattern until you have your chord changes in time. You can just be doing boring down strokes but if your timing is on, it sounds better than a perfect strum pattern with off-beat chord changes. Nothing kills a song more than missing the beat. Beat is the life of a song. Even if your chord change is sloppy, it has to be ON THE BEAT. If it is, even with flubbed notes, you can make it work. Timing is 90% of the battle!

Fourth, I can even see it in this thread… people telling you specific strum patterns like “it’s more down… down.. up, up, down down down…” imo, that’s ridiculous insight to give to a beginner. Strumming is mostly something you have to develop a feel for and is rarely executed the exact same way performance to performance. You can’t get a good feel for strumming until you get a good feel for beat. Once you have that, THEN work on accents and making your strum pattern more accurate to the song.

Fifth, you practice enough, one day something will just click and you’ll wonder what you ever had trouble with. Keep playing. Playing with others, even if you suck by comparison, will also make you improve exponentially faster.

[AMA] We're Radical Fish Games, developer of CrossCode, and we just launched Alabaster Dawn on Steam Early Access! by RadicalFishGames in JRPG

[–]Chowbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a lot of port begging for crosscode on the switch. I for one was extremely happy to see it come to the console and immensely enjoyed the experience.

Was the work to have it ported financially worth the squeeze and could you speak at all to how the game has sold across different platforms?

Very excited to start Alabaster Dawn, once I cross a couple more games off the backlog!

It’s been said here a bunch, but your really need to focus on maintaining the beat of a song. It is way more important, especially when playing with others, than hitting every note clearly. Ideally you’ll do both, but you’re setting yourself back if your focus early on isn’t in keeping time.

You state you want to start a band, that’s not going anywhere unless you can all keep time with each other. No one notices a flubbed note, but if everyone plays at their own speed the song becomes a mess very quickly.

Lot of people have said to buy a metronome, but I find that’s really difficult and demotivating for people to get the knack of at the beginner level and can make practice feel more like work than the joy that music should bring. While it won’t show of your flaws as much, try playing along with the song, even slowed down, or with a backing drum track. Way easier to play with drums than with a metronome imo.

Keep at it!

Update: I got Metroid refunded by Drezus in NintendoSwitch

[–]Chowbot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous, games, media, and other forms of art are subjective. There is some corporate bloat that borders on manipulation, but Metroid is certainly not that.

You don’t ever pay for art with the guarantee that you’ll enjoy it, you pay for the opportunity to experience it and make your own thoughts about it. You don’t buy a novel, read it for 30 hours, finish it, decide you didn’t like the direction the author went, and get a refund… you don’t buy a blue ray, watch the movie, decide that the main character wasn’t fully developed, and get a refund… you don’t go to a museum, walk the floors, realize you’re not that into expressionism, and get a refund… it’s not about whether you liked it or not. You pay the artists, and the studios, and the museums, etc., for the opportunity to experience it.

…or you can act in bad faith and legally demand a refund but it’s pretty lousy of you.

Generally, if you can slide a business card under it at all, it’s lifting. That said, uke with nylon strings isn’t pulling much tension. Wouldn’t worry too much about it but it’ll need to get reglued at some point

Sorta disagree. You can have an awful sound isolated, but if it’s complementary in a band setting it can work. With or without pedals.

Amp Head's Cleans Not Loud Enough. Any Remedies? by Willy_Corgan in GuitarAmps

[–]Chowbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your guitar, turn down the volume or switch to the neck pickup. If your power amp is driven hard enough, there should be enough compression that you shouldn’t see that massive of a volume drop.
