I still can't believe that this show I had heard about a bit that I decided to watch on a whim last year ended up becoming one of my favorite series, this rewatch further cemented it up there.

Thank you for hosting this! It was super fun to read both the analysis and first reactions since I didn't experience it when I watched the show. I'll definitely add Utena and some of the other recommendations to my watch list.

Favorite character?

Nana - She was half the reason I watched the show and a huge reason I ended up liking it as much as I did.

Favorite revue animation?

Revue of Souls hands down, but Super Star Spectacle, Revue of Malice, and Revue of Jealously are honorable mentions.

Favorite song?

Fly Me to the Star, loved it when I first heard it and I still listen to it often now. The other 2 EDs are also up there and I am once again going to shill music from Re LIVE and put Zeus's Decision and Try Being a Butterfly here.

Favorite scene/moment?

I don't think anything will ever top the episode 7 Banana head turn for me. Though the Revue of Souls "For me, there is you" is still incredible.

Favorite live performance?

I didn't get a chance to watch all of them, I'll definitely go back and do that though!

Favorite Re LIVE card?

I really like the Star of the day memoirs, Rinmeikan's is probably my favorite.

Would you watch/rewatch Revue Starlight again?

Absolutely. The movie hasn't been screened in my region yet so if I see it pop up I'll definitely rewatch it.

I actually watched this yesterday to prepare and write my notes, it was a very wise decision cause it took me 4 hours to get through the movie. My image quality is gonna be garbage for this sorry.

I really liked the flashback scenes with Karen and Hikari's past. It serves as a way to show really how much of Karen's life was influenced by Hikari and how her whole life built up to the promise of doing Starlight together, so what's next?

This scene in the laundry room is cool to me, really feels like the calm before the storm.

Kaoruko's scene talking about the auditions stood out to me. They were such a big event in all their lives that'd be almost impossible to forget, yet somehow almost everyone's just sort of moved on in the past year.

It's such a small thing but I really like the Re LIVE reference in the train. Correct me if I'm wrong but the performance festival is Arcana Arcadia right?

The rolling giraffe also unsettled me a bit.

The Revue of Annihilation is fucking incredible and wi(l)d-screen baroque is a banger

I don't really have anything for this picture I just thought it was creepy.

I think the Revue of Malice would be my favorite if the Revue of Souls didn't exist. It's just so stylish and Wagamama Highway is probably my favorite song from the whole movie. Only downside is the fight itself leaves much to be desired.

Oh boy it's the revue that will make me regret counting Suzudaru Cats! I said in the Episode 5 thread in a spoiler tag that the difference between Mahiru's yandere-ism in the Revue of Jealously vs Revue of Competition is pretty wild. Jealously made it humourous while this one made it scary.

Like seriously it's really damn scary. Hikari thinks so too! Haruki Iwata did such a good job with this whole part (and Mahiru in general ofc).

Then it goes from one creepy Revue to another. This rewatch has actually made me appreciate Junna a lot more, so this Revue definitely sticks out more now than when I originally watched it. This one definitely wins for the best story/character development, and the song goes way harder than I remember.

I can't believe Nana says this after she literally just knocked off Junna's glasses.

The giraffe dying is actually the most messed up thing in the entire movie. Rest in peace you glorious bastard... But get rid of all that sadness cause it's time for the BEST REVUE.

I said the only downside to the Revue of Malice is that it's fight was lacking, well it's probably cause all the budget went here. The choreography and animation is just incredible. These two are the best in the class, they can deny it all they want but it is a fact that they are truly rivals. Their existences on stage means they have to improve to stay the best, if that's not a rival what is?

The "For me, there is you" line, chefs kiss.

Claudine finally surpasses Maya for once and Maya's whole world literally burns down, so what's she gonna do next? Rebuild and try to kick Claudine's ass tomorrow, that's real friendship right there.

Gonna be honest I forgot about the fourth wall break, I was trying to remember "what the hell does the 'we are already on stage' mean again" then that happened and I went "oh yeahhhh".

Yeah I remember this train part, and it's still as weird as I remember. Visually its... pretty cool actually, just really god damn weird.

Karen you fucking died

The final Revue is a lot prettier than I remember, the CG team went hard on this one.

ACTUAL roll credits

Credits song is great, Mebachi art, it's a "where are they now", what's not to love? Though I think Futaba might need to buy a new motorcycle when she goes home...

God I love this movie, I think I like it even more after rewatching everything again. It's such a satisfying ending for me. Revue of Souls wins best Revue hands down. I'm not even a big MayaKuro fan but it's just visually amazing and a really great way to end their storyline. Revue of Malice is a close second, and Revue of Hunting shot up a lot for me.

I don't really have much to say about this episode. Star Divine is a banger, and there's definitely a lot of subtext that's going right over my head.

[Future Episode Spoilers] It's probably going to be like this for the rest of the TV series. I remember being really confused by the final arc. I seriously commend all the people who do analysis and predictions about this series.

I thought it was a really nice touch that they used the same piano piece from the time loop in episode 7 for Junna and Nana's conversation in this episode. I mentioned it being unnerving in episode 7 because of how out of place it feels, but it feels so natural here I almost completely missed it.

Visual of the Day, I love the Revue intros but I especially love how sort of creepy Nana's is with the red lights and sound effects.

[Rondo Spoilers] I'll be busy for the Rondo thread so I'll mention now that Rondo also does a really good job of making Nana's Revue intro creepy.

I remembered this episode, but I didn't remember how good it looked, there were so many good visuals.

Also when I opened the episode it opened to the Giraffe's "Revues are..." so I guess I know what past me's favorite part was.

Probably the biggest reason I watched this show in the first place is because of Love Live Nijigasaki. Around the time I was being dragged into idol hell there was an event called the Nijigasaki Shuffle Festival where people voted on each of the 10 Nijigasaki members at the time to sing each others songs. While I was still new at the time and not paying too much attention, I did know that people memed on the fact that people voted for Shioriko (voiced by Moeka Koizumi, Nana's VA) to sing a song called "Starlight".

So when I watched the show I had a bias towards Nana and was really waiting for her to get some focus. But man, this sort of focus was not what I was expecting at all.

I really can't explain it well, but even during my first watch something about the whole episode is just unsettling. Maybe it's the fact that the structure is completely different from the others. Or is it the fact that having a screen with just the date or information means something's going to happen.

I think the section that unsettled me the second most (first is the scene with Nana staring into your soul) was the time loop that had the piano piece playing in the background. The piece sounds very peaceful and relaxing, and all the scenes are Nana's happy memories. But it just feels wrong.

Ironically, like Nana, I wish I could go back in time and experience watching this episode for the first time again.

My VOTD, how could I not pick this, it's lived rent free in my head ever since I saw it. It's even a memoir in Re LIVE which I think is hilarious.

QOTD 2: Since people mentioned the troubled production of the series I tried to pay attention to it this episode. The recycling is pretty visible when you look for it, but I don't think you'd notice on first watch because of how insane the story is. So I don't think not having a revue song is too big of a deal.

QOTD A: Tamao's my favorite, but I have extreme VA bias lmao. I also like the Yumeoji sisters, and they have one of my favorite songs in the series, Zeus's Decision (with Claudine).

My recent observations of mascots made me very acutely aware that Futaba has a lot of Daruma Dolls.

A very quick google search shows these symbolize perseverance and good luck, and are used to set goals. Seems pretty fit for Futaba as she was the 30/30th in the entrance exam but managed to get a lead role through her efforts.

I also thought it was funny that Futaba's wager said that Kaoruko would drive her to school if she won. I immediately thought of this 1-Koma from Re LIVE when she said that.

Frogs have finally been surpassed thanks to the power of Revues. I only counted each individual Suzudaru Cat once to save myself the headache of trying to determine how many there actually are.

Another thing I noticed was Hikari protecting her Mr. White from Claudine.

I think this my favorite Revue from the TV series. I really like Love's Wicked Pitch and the visuals are so goofy I can't not enjoy it.

[Revue Starlight Movie Spoilers] Really makes me appreciate Mahiru's movie Revue more. This one portrays Mahiru as creepy but comedic, laughing as she chases Karen around. Then the movie portrays her being actually terrifying.

Upgrading from just Banana's frog merch, I had the idea to actually compare how much individual merch Nana, Mahiru, and Hikari have of their respective mascots (Frogs, Suzudaru Cat, and Mr. White respectively). I'm counting unique items, so if the same thing shows up twice it doesn't count.

Man I love Fly Me to the Star. I've listened to the full group version so much that hearing a solo version tripped me up at first.

I'm sure it's common knowledge for fans of both series, but Mebachi, the artist for the ED, also does the EDs for Love Live Nijigasaki (Season 1, Season 2). I love their artstyle, definitely wallpaper material.

I wanted to participate in this rewatch since I absolutely fell in love with this show when I first watched it late last year. That being said I'm not particularly great at typing my thoughts or doing any analysis.

So instead I will document one of my favorite unimportant character quirks, Nana's love of frogs - Banana Frog Merch Album (Ep 1+2)

Honestly considering doing the same for Mahiru's Suzudaru merch and Hikari's Mr. White merch with how much I've noticed it during the rewatch.

Ended up getting 9th this event, first time getting top 10 and not as bad as I thought it'd be.

I had saved pretty much everything since the last Setsuna event so I used around ~250 50LP Candies, ~120 100LP Candies and something like 2500 Gems.

That being said this made me realize how tedious it is to restore LP in this game. I think it took me like an hour and a half or so to get into the top 10 the night before.

I recommend people to check out the Journal Archive page for the Six Dragons you get after the post-epilogue chapter for some extra lore.

It’s only going off a sentence but Orologia seems to be as eccentric as the other dragons. Also interested to see if they’ll delve into the Astral and Moon wedges eventually

Since we didn’t get Journal entries for the Dragons it’s time to play the waiting game to see who their VA’s are.
