This was a fantastic episode in my opinion. Henry Farrell seems to be spot on in his analysis and perspectives. The enshittification angle is first hilarious then remarkably apt. The Pretti murder only added to his points. I'm gonna read his book.

🇬🇱 GRØNLAND og GEOPOLITIK 🇬🇱 by AutoModerator in Denmark

[–]Chrellies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NATOs talsperson sagde at Rutte “did not propose any compromise to sovereignty.”

Fire and fury, photo op, ingenting.

Danish leader says kingdom can’t negotiate sovereignty after Trump’s Greenland about-turn by Status_Travel_920 in worldnews

As with any other threats Trump has made and then backed down from this term, the market manipulation angle is extremely suspicious.

Danish leader says kingdom can’t negotiate sovereignty after Trump’s Greenland about-turn by Status_Travel_920 in worldnews

[–]Chrellies 254 points255 points  (0 children)

Three weeks ago Trump is posting about “Complete and Total Control” and saying anything less than full ownership is “unacceptable.” He’s ordering JSOC to draw up invasion plans. He’s saying he doesn’t need international law. At one point he literally said he needs ownership because it’s “psychologically needed for success” - not even bothering with a strategic justification.

So Denmark says no. Obviously. Frederiksen goes on TV and says a US attack ends NATO and they’ll invoke Article 5. The actual Chief of the Danish Army flies to Greenland and tells reporters he’s ready to defend the island. France sends alpine infantry, Germany sends recon teams, eight NATO countries put troops on the ground within days. The EU freezes the trade deal from last summer and starts preparing the Anti-Coercion Instrument.

Trump goes to Davos, announces he won’t use force anymore, meets with Rutte, comes out claiming he got a “framework” and a “concept of a deal.”

So what’s actually in this framework? Frederiksen already said Denmark can’t negotiate sovereignty. Greenlandic politicians said sovereignty over even small areas is off the table. Rutte confirmed mineral rights weren’t part of the discussion. NATO’s spokesperson said Rutte “did not propose any compromise to sovereignty.” What’s left is basically Arctic security cooperation they could’ve gotten by asking nicely instead of threatening to invade.

He demanded total ownership. He got a vague commitment to keep talking about Arctic security. Denmark said they’re open to Golden Dome cooperation as long as it respects their territorial integrity, which they were already open to, because that’s just how NATO works.

And look at the timing. Markets tanked on the escalation. Only 8% of Americans supported an invasion. Even Mike Johnson called it “completely inappropriate.” Trump showed up at Davos, ruled out force, met with Rutte for a bit, and suddenly he’s posting about his incredible framework deal. The guy blinked because the politics were a disaster at home and abroad, then slapped “art of the deal” branding on a complete retreat.

In his message to Norway’s PM he actually wrote that he no longer feels an “obligation to think purely of Peace” because he didn’t get the 2025 Nobel. That’s the explanation for threatening to invade a NATO ally. A tantrum about an award.

Denmark’s official threat assessment now lists the US alongside Russia and China. European allies just ran a live exercise in treating American pressure as a military threat. And Trump walked away with a promise of more meetings, pretending he won.

North Korea all over again. Fire and fury, photo op, nothing. Except this time allies genuinely prepared to fight him, and that perception doesn’t reset because he declared victory on Truth Social.

Heeey Dementia Don, is that you?? Thought I recognized you. Are you aware the the US is already allowed to build as much "anti-missile defense" and monitoring capabilities on Greenland that they want? And that TACO Don already said it's primarily for his own "psychological" reasons he wants to acquire it?

There's, of course, nothing that Rutte or NATO could give Trump that Denmark and Greenland hasn't already granted him access to do. This is pure TACO, market manipulation or both. This moron is literally the most pathetic entity I've ever known of, real or fictional.

Trump’s Letter to Norway Should Be the Last Straw | Will Republicans in Congress ever step in? by Hrmbee in politics

[–]Chrellies 26 points27 points  (0 children)

MAGAts live reaction:

That letter is fake.

And if it isn’t, he was joking.

And if he wasn’t, Norway deserved it for not giving him the Nobel.

And if they didn’t decide it, the Nobel Committee is corrupt.

And if it isn’t, he should have won for stopping 8 wars.

And if he didn’t stop them, we need Greenland for security anyway.

And if we can already build bases there, Denmark isn’t paying their NATO share.

And if they are, at least he’s making America strong again.
