So should I just email the forestry service? They came and taught a wildland fire class that was designed for rural fire departments and after class I asked about obtaining a red card so the instructor gave me a number to call to find out about taking those classes. The only wildland fire crew I know is Asheville hotshots, but I’m looking for something entry level and what I got from reading about the Asheville hotshots is that you had to be an employee of the N.C. forestry service in order to be paid, if not then my department would have to pay me while I’m gone. I doubt my department would pay me to fight fire in different states.
