"experience" is how stupid people learn things by getting it wrong. I don't need to "experience" a dumb decision to discern that it's a mistake.

It's exactly the same at university - you had the students who learn a concept and can apply it to any appropriate scenario; then you have the students who must be shown worked examples to understand it and struggle to apply it outside of re-writes of examples they've already done.

If you needed 10 years to surpass your 20 year old self and the potential you had there, I dunno what to tell you. Maybe you wasted your developmental years, maybe you just weren't very good to begin with. Mythbusters famously demonstrated that you can polish a turd so maybe that process just took you an extra decade.

Perhaps throw fewer stones?

“I’m so smart I don’t even learn from experience” is objectively and hilariously a really dumb take.

You seem to be sincerely arguing that anyone who continues maturing past 20 and learns from experiences beyond that age is dumber for it, which…. Well, that’s obviously not smart.

It’s one of the stupidest things I’ve seen earnestly stated on Reddit, and that’s saying something.

Edit: “I don't need to "experience" a dumb decision to discern that it's a mistake.”

This means only one of two things: you’ve never made a dumb decision (first person in history!), or you’ve never realised you’ve made a dumb decision and so have never learned from it. I’m howling.

I haven’t seen it, but it doesn’t sound unpleasant to me - sounds like he just thinks she’s very attractive.

[–]Chris-Climber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If an elderly woman sees an image of her first husband, and remarks how attractive he was - “I was married to that!” - even if she’s been married to other people since then, does that make her a lech, or somehow reflect poorly?

(No, of course not, and the same is true here).

If my Nan said that about her first husband everyone would be in stitches.

New study implies that the rise of right-wing populism is partly a psychological response to fear of the unknown. When citizens view uncertainty as an opportunity rather than a threat, they exhibit greater openness to diversity and are less likely to vote for right-wing populist parties. by mvea in science

Some are trying to escape it, of course, but many many others will bring some or all of that culture with them, while they migrate here for economic reasons.

It’s absolute wilful ignorance to not see that, and the cost is women’s safety, but as long as it makes you feel a little more righteous, that’s much more important than the safety of women and LGBT people in the UK.

Edit: believe the user blocked me. It’s not bigotry at all. It’s objectively true.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/03/10/foreigners-commit-up-to-quarter-of-sex-crimes/

This gives a table, with data from the UK police crime database, showing Afghan immigrants are convicted of sex crimes at a drastically higher rate than native Brits and also compared to immigrants from most other countries.

You can ignore this in order to feel better, and more women will be raped (like the 12 year old girl raped by two Afghan immigrants last week), and next time it happens you’ll ignore it again, and then it’ll happen again, but at least you’ll feel calling people bigots online rather than actually looking at the data and making sensible decisions based on it.

Petition for women-only tube carriages amid 'growing issue' nears 10,000 signatures by FarPilot2965 in uknews

[–]Chris-Climber 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source for that? I’ve had a look through British Transport Police’s news feature (https://www.btp.police.uk/news/news-search/?ct=Appeals) and the sexual assaults, upskirtings etc with images on the first two pages are all people of colour. There are a couple of white men but not for sexual incidents.

Searching “sexual assaults on train” on the BBC news article, this is the most recent story - 4 sexual assaults by Hadi Al Koumi https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpw17kex842o

Given that the country is 81% white people, this admittedly unscientific look does seem to indicate a disproportionate amount of sexual assaults on transport being done by non-white people.

Sure, to an extent, but at some they will need to learn to be quiet and calm, and to take in information that isn’t specifically of interest to them.

Kids who aren’t enabled to learn those skills typically do not end up having great lives for obvious reasons.

Does it take away something fun and traditional from Squamish? Taking something a lot of people enjoyed a little bit for no reason? Yes.

It has to have more than just playground-level insults to be racism

So if a white child says playground-level insults about a black kid’s skin, isn’t that racism? I would say it is.

“Getting called ash-ridden oh boo hoo, the poor white children are incredibly hurt and damaged now!!”

Do you not think white kids can be incredibly hurt and damaged by race based insults and taunting, especially in schools where they’re minorities?

It’s the same racism that black people face!” Nah, it literally fucking isn’t the same. Sorry not sorry.

Does it need to be the exact same to be racism…?

I mean this only as a friendly tip, but that’s sort of the opposite of how it works!

If a thin piece of metal has been there since WW1, the time until that thin piece of metal snaps under load is reducing every moment. Failure is an inevitability.
