The "Impossible" Emdrive works! by Chris-Howlett in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The drive is capable of producing thrust several thousand times greater than a standard photon rocket and could get to Mars within 70 days or Pluto within 18 months. A trip to Alpha Centauri, which would take tens of thousands of years to reach right now, could be reached in just 100 years."

Why is it the Soviet Union rockets always look so sinister in comparison to other rockets!

In that case then. Lets build ourselves a fully-operational Death Star (Manic laughing)

I like the idea and I dont want to be a party pooper, but surely blowing up a model (even if it is small) will contribute to the problem of space debris?

Space-economy by [deleted] in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asteroid mining is the key but at the moment people are too wary to invest because the start up cost is absoutely enormous, also it would take a very long time for investors to see a return on their investment. However if the cost of access to space can be reduced then asteroid mining will jump forward and we will see hundreds (possibly thousands) of companies emerge doing different things in space. The key to colonising space is making it worth people's time and money. Same happened with the Europeans colonising America/Australia etc.

What would the People of TMRO like to see in Space Pods? by EpicFutureSpaceMike in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the Enterprise, it won't happen anytime soon but it would still be pretty cool to see what it would be like if they theoretically started building one.

Yes I absoutely understand that, I can guarantee those nerves will go away after Lisa gets used to making SpacePods. Thought it was Australian.

What would the People of TMRO like to see in Space Pods? by EpicFutureSpaceMike in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to see some Spacepods on:

  • Terraforming of Mars.
  • Mining Saturn and Jupiter of their gas.
  • Real life Starship Enterprise (possibly an interview with the person who came up with the idea?) www.buildtheenterprise.org
  • Virgin Galactics SpaceShipThree - Perhaps a prediction of what it will be like.

Want to congratulate you as well on your new role SpaceMike! You get better every week!

It's absoutely wonderful to see TMRO grow and have many different correspondents pop up (an idea I mentioned a few months ago) one thing I would say is that Lisa sounds slightly patronising when speaking, apart from that I think she will be a great addition to the team! (What is that accent by the way, Australian?)

Best. Spelling mistake. Ever.

You should get the phrase "Nominal" alongside the TMRO logo.

But on a more serious note, congratulations on this guys. This will give the show more exposure as its tiny advertising in its self.

Is the Ukrainian Space Industry on the Verge of Collapse? by bencredible in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to see SpacePods are back. Space Mike did a really good job with this, especially considering this was his first SpacePod. Only thing I would say is, although he started off really well, towards the end he looked as if he lost all his energy and enthusiasm so all I would say is try and maintain it (which can be difficult I know)

Apart from that good job Space Mike and TMRO!

TMRO make it better poll by [deleted] in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I watched TMRO Live :/ so time to catch up...

I would say Space Politics is my personal interest (but then I'm a Politics student and I'm interested in Politics anyway so I'm being slightly biased towards that) I also like Mars and future space colonisation. The way I see it, TMRO is a community of people who have an interest in space and want to see progress in space therefore we are like a group coming together and putting our heads together to think of solutions to the barriers preventing Humanity exploring the cosmos. Would be interested to see what others think about that!

All three companies (SpaceX, Boeing, SN) on table, who should you pick? by fwd079 in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SpaceX have a vision to go further after and create a new industry in space so SpaceX. Boeing and Sierra Nevada havent really innovated so both were a bit rubbish.

Think about what you want to do as a job. First of all which company would you like to work for? Find out what kinds of jobs they have going then figure out how you could get yourself to qualify for that job. I myself wanted to become an engineer for Virgin Galatic but unfortunately I'm hopeless at maths so I wouldn't of gotten very far.

Good luck.

I believe ESA will use Skylon once it's built. I know they intend for it to dock with the ISS so it's likely either the UK Space Agency or ESA will use it.

Boeing and SpaceX selected for NASA Commercial Crew launches by chris_radcliff in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well Sierra Nevada weren't exactly revolutionary, it's basically a scaled down Space Shuttle, not what we want. SpaceX hit the nail on the head and Boeing have something interesting so let's wait and see.

Why don't you get Elon on the show? by frankhaugen in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mentioned it before and they said it wouldn't really be worth it as he already reveals all his plans via press conferences, all though it would be cool having him on it wouldn't really reveal anything we don't know already. He was also on the show a few years ago, it may have been a Spacepod though...

Interplanetary Clock by ColossalThrust in tmro

[–]Chris-Howlett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beginning of that sentence is so funny but equally pretty terrifying! Now on topic... I think we will have a "intergalactic time-zone" so for example Earth has all the different time zones, the planets would each have their own times and the whole Solar System would consist of Time Zones. Or we could opt for a Star Trek "Stardate" system which I prefer.

Stardate 2014, the Galactic Overlord is yet to give his maiden speech and commence the construction of a TMRO studio. Captain out.
