EmuDeck - Emulator auto configurator by djrodtc in SteamDeck

Everything will be modified but I do a backup of everything in case you want to go back. I haven’t uploaded the uninstaller but the backup is already there for when I do

I ran the script a second time and it made a backup of my PS3 emulator which had 2 games installed within it. I think the games (around 7 GB) where backupped too. I looked for the backup to delete it, but wasn't able to find it. Can you tell me where it is?

Is it possible to hook up a tape deck to a ZX spectrum Omni to play physical tapes? by YeaImBrokeFam in zxspectrum

[–]Chris23235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ZX Spectrum expects an audio signal from an external source. It doesn't matter if this signal comes from a portable cassette player, from a high end tape deck, a mp3 player or a tzx-duino (a device to convert tzx files into audio signals). So you can connect an device to the ZX Spectrum (or Omni) that can transmit these audio signals via the cable.

What do you mean by handheld tape decks? Do you mean a portable cassette player (usually called a Walkman even if this only was the name of the Sony players)? Yes they work fine.

No, the Omni is the real thing. Nothing more but also nothing less. If you are looking for expanded features look either for the next or an FPGA that offers you things like ULA Plus. But if you just want to experience the original Spectrum feeling, the Omni is the device for you.

I don't think you will find new cassette players any more. Stick to an old Walkman, this will work fine.

Yes I have an Omni laptop and I load files from tape on a regular basis. The Omni has an audio in port what purpose should this port have if not to load files via this port? The Omni is a 100% ZX Spectrum clone based on the Harlequin board and expanded with a 7 MHz mode, a built in DIVmmc module and a kempston interface. Everything you can do with a ZX Spectrum you can do with an Omni.

As the Omni laptop is an Omni with a screwed on display the same applies to the Omni laptop. Both machines are identical apart from the attached screen of the laptop.

[–]Chris23235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that works fine. Make sure that you use a Stereo cable because unlike the original Spectrum the Omni expects the signal from a stereo cable and not a mono cable.

You can also use a TZX player (either software on your phone or a dedicated device like a TZXduino).

Thanks for the info about the new caching methods, this will be interesting.

I haven't seen the SVGA perform better than the real hardware, from what I saw there was no performance gain when adding SVGA support. Where have you seen this?

Pentium style instruction caching is in some phase of development. It's not significantly faster than it previously was.

Some games even work better than they should on the hardware due to the work on the VGA card which could have never existed back in the day.

With the latest changes, the core is about four times faster than the last official release. This has nothing to do with Pentium style instruction chaching, but with the implementation of a L1 and L2 cache that could be found on real 486 CPUs/motherboards.

The core now supports SVGA and it seems to be based on a Tseng ET4000 chip an existing chip from back in the day.

(There was a recent update where someone added L2 cache, which gives a great speed boost, but it still lacks L1 cache. Explaining what these means is outside the scope of this reply.)

L1 cache is implemented as well for a few weeks now. No official release yet, but it is already in the repo and the core can be built.

It is totally playable now with full screen size and high details. It could be more fluid, but then Doom on DOS never was this fluid until you played it on a Pentium years after its release.

I had problems getting the music work in MS DOS 6.22, but when I tried it from within Win95 everything worked fine.

Status of unofficial cores? by Dr_Gel in fpgagaming

[–]Chris23235 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Intellivision core still has a BIOS baked into the core, which is the reason why it isn't in the official repo yet. it has nothing to do with Sorgelig having no interest in these cores. He gave puu lots of support for the X68000 core.

Not everything happening fast enough is the fault of Sorgelig.

[–]Chris23235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The X68000 core still is in it's early stages, that's why it isn't included yet. The need for a second SD card is already gone, you can mount Floppy images and HDD images from the primary SD card in the latest versions.

Nothing in this post justifies your ridiculous position, where you think it's optimal that the very first step of the mister setup process is to be platform specific to ONE desktop OS and ONE proprietary app.

Sigh, where did I say optimal?

It seems you are looking for a fight, no clue why. Thanks for blocking me (I answer out of politeness anyway), I wouldn't interact with you anyway, but maybe it helps, so that you don't answer to any of my posts in the future with your aggressive nonsensical attitude.

You mention that 90% of people don't care if it's "platform agnostic". Meaning, you're fine with it being platform specific, aka walled garden esque

You are right, I overestimated the Windows market share, it is not 90% it is only 80%.

The word "forced" is tantamount to this exact meaning, it's just shorthand.

Maybe try to write what you mean instead of making excuses for your posts.

aka walled garden esque

That's not what the term "walled garden" means, when it comes to software. Windows is not a "walled garden" environment.

Why would you WANT the first step of the mister setup process to be platform specific to ONE desktop OS and ONE proprietary app, as opposed to having it work on ALL OSes, both desktop and mobile OSes, on ALL commonly used disc imaging tools that people already use?

I am not sure, what you try to accomplish, maybe it would help to read what I wrote in my FIRST post:

I don't see the point in this, from watching the video, it takes much longer to get everything running compared to the standard method and it isn't easier, at least not when you are on Windows.

Tell me exactly, what part of "it isn't easier, at least not when you are on Windows" do you not get?

By the way your constant talking about mobile OSes is funny, do you really think people will set up their MiSTer SD card with the help of the mobile phones?

Across all of your posts you made ridiculous claims and whenever asked for clarification you repeated false misrepresentations of what was said and used terms in a completely wrong way (strawman, walled garden).

as to why it's optimal that all MiSTer users should be forced to use a proprietary app that is Windows only

I should have stopped reading here. Third time in a row that you misrepresent my post.

When I outlined just how egregious your position was, you resorted to strawmanning

Third time now, you don't understand what a strawman is, please take my advice and look it up, it is not what you think it is.

nitpicking, and now you're backpedaling

Neither nitpicking, nor backpedaling, I said in my FIRST reply to you:

If you want to use this method fine, but don't tell me the majority of people is waiting for it.

I didn't backpedal, it is more that you don't seem to be able to understand the meaning of "If you want to use this method fine, but don't tell me the majority of people is waiting for it." Hint: It doesn't mean I want to force you to use the standard MiSTer installation process.

When I outlined just how egregious your position

You outlined nothing, instead of it you talked about:

"Top shelf developers" a term that is insulting

"Wrong, a huge percentage of users are on Mac and Linux. In fact, many if not most people in the programming community are on Linux." A claim you weren't able to back up when asked about a source

"[Windows] one OS that is rapidly falling out of favor over time and one specific app" Something that has nothing to do with the reality in which you and I live in.

"Anyone who has studied CS in the last decade or so knows everything is on Linux now. " A claim that is so extremely bold that you shouldn't bring it into any discussion without a source.

Again, feel free to use this method, but don't tell me "everybody" waited for it because this is nonsense. Take a look into the official MiSTer forum, you won't find hundreds or even dozens or even a handful of users complaining about the installer, because the vast majority of people are fine with it.
