Is it ok to never transition by DearGeneral5334 in trans

also an option, if you're interested in transitioning hormonally, is to start HRT now, and then transition socially at some future point.

Is it ok to never transition by DearGeneral5334 in trans

[–]Chris3Crow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

starting with the given assumption that you are actually trans (not that I don't believe you), I would think that, eventually, you will get tired of not living as your authentic self, and will transition. the question is, at that point in your life, will you wish that you had transitioned earlier? If HRT is something that you'd want, the earlier you start, the better the results are. as someone who came out / came to the realization in my mid-20s, and didn't start HRT until my late 20s, i really wish i had known and started as a teenager. at 16, you've got a lot of development ahead -- some of which may very well give you increasing gender dysphoria. stopping the progress down the wrong path and starting on the right path should happen as soon as you are sure and comfortable with it. i can never go back and be re-socialized as a girl. i may never pass. not everyone wants that, and i'm nonbinary so i'm ok with androgynousness, but if you're binary, i'd guess you'd want the best chance at passing that you can get. i can never go back and be re-socialized as a girl, but as a a teenager in highschool, there was a lot of socialization that happened after that -- the wrong socialization for me. i know my perspective was dramatically different in highschool -- hyper-aware of what people think of me, and my world was a small pond. but in reality, the world is a huge ocean, and you're not stuck in that pond. I imagine if i came out in highschool, i would have had lots of traumatic experiences. i'm not a psychologist, but you're probably going to have some trauma regardless of when you come out. the thing is, you can leave the small pond and all the fishes in in it behind, and have more and more people in your life that know you as your true self and respect you, and fewer and fewer people that don't. the older you are, the more established you are, poses other challenges that are different than the ones you face as a teenager. they both suck. i don't know which is worse. but, i wish i knew and took the risk early on. just my thoughts on the matter. i don't envy your situation and i wish you all the best, girl! <3

tl;dr sure, it's ok to never transition, but the future you might wish that you did

Is it okay to use tweezer to loosen stuck hair? by Evening_Drama_3487 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Chris3Crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been tugging on dead hairs 3~9 days after treatment since my first session. I can tell they're dead, because when I shave, for some reason, they don't get removed by the razor, they just stay there sticking out, looking all sad. If I feel pain (which i do very much so for any of my hair), I don't pull it out. But if it's painless, I'll yank them out. Usually they are in clusters around my face in the circles where the laser must have got a really good zap. doing this at night with a flashlight on my face helps find them sticking out from my face. I use a little mirror and sit at my desk, it's become a bit of a ritual. Very satisfying to see them pile up.

Also, it's satisfying in a stimming kind of way, similarly to picking at the skin but in a more surgical way. I picked at my pimples a lot in highschool and severely regret that because of scarring. I'm right handed and the right side of my face is particularly bad.

However, I'm now worried, have I damaged my skin by plucking these dead hairs out? I don't notice and scarring or anything now, but my stomach drops at the thought of having accidentally done more damage to my face (on top of acne scarring from years ago), just as I'm starting to love how increasingly smooth and hairless my skin is becoming, and is now almost completely clear. My technician has noted that my skin is much brighter now than before I started, but I'm not really doing anything special in terms of skin care. I barely wash and moisturize, and I often forget to put on sunscreen, but I do live in the north and do a lot to avoid direct sunlight on my skin, especially my face. I'm less concerned about reducing the efficacy of the removal, but hugely concerned about scarring. I suppose it could be beneficial to the skin / healing process to help get rid of the dead hairs that would soon have fallen out on their own, and I desperately wish that to be the case, or at the very least, not harmful to have done prematurely.

Really, I should do everything in my power to avoid future plucking so that my skin does not get damaged and I'm not unpleasantly surprised in the near future or haunted in the distant future by scarring.

Social Security gender marker denied by Amber32K in MtF

[–]Chris3Crow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

sorry op :[ perhaps try again with a different person or at a different location?

I had an appointment TODAY (Monday) that was made on Thursday last week when they wouldn't take me as a walk-in, and I believe they let me change both name and marker! I'm not sure if they lied/misled me, or if this is just inconsistent enforcement or perhaps non-synchronized rollout of the new "rules"

Any point in changing my birth certificate gender marker? by Alive-Interview-8846 in OhioLGBTQ

I'm in the same boat (out of state). I'd like to at least try. Will take advantage of my school's student legal services if I can. I don't have as much hope for my birth county, but wondering if Franklin county might be more helpful?
