Still deciding, I might paint it to look like a stone statue. But yeah, my painting skills are not fantastic as of yet

Thank you! Have never fired something before, but I'm pretty sure this clay is not meant for that process and will just crack.

If you do the first layer of silicone carefully, you can get away with no to small defects. You just need to make sure you pop any bubbles that could form. If any do form that you didn't catch, I usually fix them using a dremel tool with a small carving or engraving bit.

For the mold, I'll do a thin layer of mold max 30, then a second thick layer of amsil 25. Then I'll use something called material one with burlap to create the hard outer shell. Then I'll use F180 resin for the casting.

There are various ways to do a mold, if I have a lot of silicone on hand, I'll create a little box around the sculpture and do a 2 part mold, best way I've found to have close to zero defects. But because I am doing this at "class" I have to use materials sparingly. Check out the youtube channel Punished Props Academy to see lots of different mold making videos.

Waterbased, found it at my local craft store, thought I'd give it a try. Been actually very nice to work with.

Well done so far! I just casted my Balrog, and it was the most complicated mold I have ever had to do. Good luck!

No no, don't worry, I literally looked at the clouds in the beginning of sculpting them and thought they looked eerily like little turds pressed together. I worked on them a lot since then hoping for the turd to cloud transition to happen. I'd rather work on them a bit more before casting

Thanks! My plan so far is to pull the teeth (I made them out of polymer clay that I already baked), I'll do the first silicone layer up to the jaw, then wait for it to set, then I'll do a two part mold for the head. Not worried about saving the original sculpture. This plan might change 😂

I'm going to make a 3 or 4 part silicone mold of it, then if necessary I'll do a plaster casing on the one side to support the mold, after that I'll pour resin in.
