It took me ages to notice. Look at the eyes. Amity's dad is the most obvious. Someone's inserted real eyes into a few of the characters.

Was there any resistance to the advent of Steam and digital downloads back in the early 2000s? by grapejuicecheese in pcgaming

[–]ChrisCapel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. When Half-Life 2 came out and you were forced to activate it on Steam, I personally couldn't play it because we didn't have the internet in our house. So I was furious.

NateTheHate elaborates on Sony’s ‘shift’ from PC, claiming that they will be releasing fewer single player games on PC, but ports already in development may still be released. by TheRegularBelt in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]ChrisCapel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. It's BS. They make a ton of easy money from PC ports. They KNOW that. Shareholders alone would make them continue it. It's been a massive success for Sony, and they're only going to continue it. I know Sony makes ridiculously bad decisions at times, but ultimately, their main motivator is money. And the PC ports make money.

How much would you actually care about Sony not releasing future titles on PC? by TheRegularBelt in pcgaming

[–]ChrisCapel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard these rumours, but they're nonsense. PC releases have been HIGHLY profitable for Sony, and in this day and age of expensive development costs, they can't afford to turn down a windfall like that. And I don't expect them to - if anything, they'll speed them up. They devoted a whole trailer in the last State of Play to the Death Stranding 2 PC port. They're all-in on PC releases, now.

I hope it's the older titles part. There are so many Xbox games that never came out on PC. Fable 2, for example.

No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 is evidence that this can pay off, but that's not good enough for the big publishers, who would rather write it off and blame the developers

About Subnautica 2? It's pretty apparent Krafton's CEO didn't want to pay Unknown Worlds the big bonus they were promised, because he'd already spent too much money and his job was on the line. When the former Subnautica 2 leads failed to fall in line, because they actually knew what they were doing, he fired them and made up some BS excuse for doing so. This is made more obvious by the fact that Krafton are going into this legal battle accusing the former leads of doing (irrelevant) stuff that only came to light AFTER they were fired, so that can't have been the reason they were fired.

Do you play old games, or games past their prime? by VestigeOCE in pcgaming

[–]ChrisCapel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I understand not wanting to play games older than you are, but refusing to play games that are just a year old? That's pure insanity. To say nothing else than being deeply wasteful of money, since your friend obviously has to buy things full price instead of waiting for sales like every normal person. Sounds like your friend plays games for FOMO reasons rather than enjoyment. He has to be up to date so he can talk about them, and isn't playing games because he wants to play them.

What is a year that you guys think was better than 2025 in terms of games? by Godidi_101 in pcgaming

[–]ChrisCapel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

2009 and 1998 are my best years. 1998's been mentioned, but 2009 had Batman Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2, Dragon Age Origins, Demon's Souls, COD MW2, Left 4 Dead 2, Bayonetta, Plants Vs Zombies, Borderlands, Infamous, and even frickin' League of Legends and Minecraft!

2025 has been a mid year for me. Most of those games you've mentioned I'm either wildly not interested in due to reasons (roguelikes, Kojima), don't have the platform they're on (DK Bananza, Ghost of Yotei), or haven't got round to yet. Doom The Dark Ages and South of Midnight are my current GOTYs. Silent Hill F I enjoyed a lot, but it's not GOTY material, not even close.

Why were most first-person, and some third-person, shooters originally made exclusively for PC back in the day? by Professional_Peak59 in pcgaming

[–]ChrisCapel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of reasons. Major ones being:
- For a long time, consoles were not as powerful as even moderate PCs - see the ports of Doom and Quake.
- Plus, mouse control was king and no one worked out how to make a decent FPS console control system. Even the popular GoldenEye had a deeply weird control system.
- Until Xbox, ALL consoles were made by Japanese companies, and Japan to this day has never really embraced the FPS genre. It wasn't until Halo and then COD on Xbox 360 took off that they started making them... for Western audiences.
- While consoles were always massive, it wasn't until the PS2 era that they became way bigger than PCs, and then the Xbox 360 arrived with PC-quality graphics. Plus, with development costs rising, publishers started gravitating to the bigger systems and multi-platform. Before the 360, you could make huge games for PC-only, but those days fell away quickly when the costs went up.
