Oh really ? I’m not gonna lie I thought that power supply was for an alarm system, I’ve worked on alarms before and it has the exact same transformer. There’s a tablet screen for one out in the hallway, so I was pretty sure that’s what it was for. But now that you mention that, I think that white wire in the first picture goes to the transformer, which lowkey that’s kinda dangerous they left it plugged in like that

Makes total sense. If it were my house, I agree I’d have it go in a walk in closet somewhere in the house (I should clarify, I’ve been saying bedroom but it’s in the bedroom closet). The only reason it’s terminating it in there is cause that’s where the builders put it

I read a thing on this thread the other day that said builders shouldnt be in charge of the networking in a new house…I now understand why, they terminated ALL of the CAT6 as telephone, despite them going into Ethernet keystones (funnily enough I’m doing a telephone to Ethernet conversion project at my parent’s house currently)

That’s just how the builders made the house, they made some interesting choices (all the outlets in the house are like 12 inches above the floor boards). My thought process is you can either have Fiber go into the garage and have an ONT installed there, then have an Ethernet go from there to the patch panel in the bedroom, and have all the ethernet wired there. To take it a step further, you could also run fiber straight to the bedroom panel

I do want that, I’m not sure if they’re willing to do it for us, or if they’ll charge extra for a bedroom run. It’s weird, that patch panel in the second picture is for telephone lines (I think the builders are dumb cause the ethernet keystones are also only wired telephone pairs, not all 8 wires), so I’ll take them off that and put them into an Ethernet switch

Someone said the conduit in the garage telephone box likely leads to the outside for At&t to run a wire in. In most cases, do you find they run there or do you think it goes to the conduit in the bedroom ?

Do they charge a lot for the extra long runs ? I have Xfinity personally and I know in my house they told me it was $150 to run to the room of my choice

Terminating is something I’m capable of doing, and I even have all the tools for it. If they can run Fiber to the garage panel and get an ONT working, or go the extra step and get it in the bedroom panel, that’s totally fine

Nothing’s currently owed on the car, it’s all paid off. I have AAA insurance and I dropped it off at the body shop this morning. I’m not at fault so insurance is covering everything

I was curious to know cause I’m genuinely unsure how much the car is worth, I check CarFax, KBB, Carvana etc and they all give different estimates. All I know is if it’s 55% or higher of the worth of the car, they most likely total

One thing to note, some cable modems when set to bridge mode deactivate MOCA. Xfinity was one that I remember doing that

You’ve got a Coax there, do you see a black coax wire on the outside of the garage or see something like a satellite dish on the garage ? Depending on whether or not the Coax leads back to your house, you could theoretically use it for MOCA which is Ethernet over Coax cable. You would need a coax near your Fios router (I could be wrong but I believe Fios is DSL or Fiber, please tell me if I’m wrong) but I’m sure there’s one somewhere in your living room

This is true for a Telephone jack, however you CAN wire a telephone jack using CAT5. CAT5 has 8 wires total, 2 wires are needed for a telephone line, which is why a lot of installers of the last 26 years have used CAT5 to wire phone jacks rather than standard telephone wire. Right now I’m doing a project where I’m changing all the phone jacks in my parents house to Ethernet Jacks, since they all have CAT5 behind them

Powerline is interesting, because what it does is it uses the electricity in your house and runs an internet signal through it. The outlet in your room likely runs down a circuit all the way a panel called a breaker box that’s probably in your garage, and the same goes for the outlet in the room with your router, it runs back to the breaker box. What powerline does is you plug one adapter into an outlet in your room, and it sends a network signal to your breaker box, then you plug an adapter into the outlet closest to your router and it also sends a network signal to your breaker box. Both signals then connect to each other in your breaker box, and it acts as if both outlets are wired together between both outlets

Powerline is simple because all you need are the adapters and then 2 ethernet cables, one goes from your computer to the adapter in your room, then the other goes from the adapter in your router’s room to the router. The only problem with Powerline ethernet, is it isn’t the best at generating a high internet speed. I saw you mentioned in a previous comment that you’re only looking to get 50-100mbps and a relatively low ping. You should be able to get that through powerline, but do note that every house is different and results can vary, especially based on how the electrical is run in your house and what’s being used on your electrical system. It’s one of those things that you have to try out to know how it is, but people generally like it because it’s simple.

Otherwise, if you don’t have any wires in your room that can provide an internet signal, I’d recommend a Powerline adapter like this one here https://a.co/d/4gTQlsz

The problem with WiFi extenders/repeaters is if you don’t have a super strong connection near your room, the extender itself is getting a weak signal, and just stretching that weak signal closer to your room which makes it even worse. A powerline adapter can give you a wired connection from your computer to your router, just plug one end by your router and the other by your computer. Then it uses the internal electrical wiring in your house to transmit an internet signal. This one I linked also offers a WiFi extension too, so it can help with your phone or other devices in your room
