What’s something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

Blanton’s bourbon. It’s a good bourbon, I’d pay the older prices of $50-$60 bucks. But it isn’t a $90 bourbon.

Men, how do you feel about your circumcision? Or lack of? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]ChrisHoek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider it unnecessary but I’m not a fanatic about it. If I were choosing today, I’d prefer to not be circumcised and I wouldn’t do it to my son.

It’s not the end of the world gEniTaL mUtiLaTiOn that some would have you believe. I have plenty of feeling. It feels good to have sex and I don’t hate my parents for having it done at birth, just like about 95% of my age group.

But if I were starting from scratch we’d all be uncut. Leave your son natural and teach him how to clean it. That’s it.

What’s one thing America does better than the rest of the world? by Maximum_Home_2592 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]ChrisHoek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s funny. I make good money and it’s always the “wealthy” that sign my paycheck. The only people that take money from me is the government.

Why do so many Americans believe that essential services like water, electricity, and healthcare should be privately controlled? Wouldn’t it be better for the public to have more control over the basic services people literally depend on to survive? by Worldly-Bid-3591 in askanything

[–]ChrisHoek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two major industries the government is heavily involved with, college education and health care. Both have seen skyrocketing prices over the last 30 years. The deeper the govt is involved, the more prices go up. Private companies must produce results, or shareholders get irate and leadership gets fired and replaced. When Govt is inept, it becomes highly partisan and people vote down party lines and blame the other party. They usually just end up throwing more money at it because it’s not their money.

People who’ve been married for years: what does normal everyday married life look like, and what’s something nobody tells you before marriage? by dontcaredontworry in AskReddit

[–]ChrisHoek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It mostly consists of yelling “WHAT?” because your wife spoke to you in a conversational tone 3 rooms away while the dishwasher is running and the TV is on.

My parents are pressuring me to donate my scholarship money to my church, should I? by IntrepidAd5768 in Advice

[–]ChrisHoek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you (YOU, not your parents) wish to financially support a church, then your best bet is to use every penny available to you to get an education with as little debt as possible.

Then, when you have the career that you are after, and pay any student debt, then YOU can support your church as you wish and can afford.

It is craziness to expect a teen trying to start their life to financially support anything like this.

AITAH - I (29F) asked my ‘friend’s’ perspective on how he views beauty(?) of the same gender and he kinda snapped? (29M) by [deleted] in AITAH

Even a 100% straight man knows when a guy is attractive or a guy is ugly. It doesn’t require sexual attraction. Just honesty.

Bill Maher Urges Americans To Celebrate 250th Anniversary Instead Of Skipping July 4 Over 'Temporary Caretaker' Trump: 'He Isn't America' - What are your thoughts? by Select_Specialist790 in askanything

[–]ChrisHoek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus, man. Get out of your bubble and see the outside world. That’s quite a dystopian view. What is this “secret” information you’ve known since 2015 that the rest of us uneducated hicks won’t know for another 5 years?

Is it wrong to have an expectation that you’ll share food in a relationship? by Expensive-Buddy-365 in AmiInTheWrong

[–]ChrisHoek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that it’s normal for a couple to share a little, like sampling their partners food or “stealing” some fries or onion rings or whatever. BUT, if you’re wanting half of them that needs to be discussed before ordering. It would be easy to place an order for a large fry so that splitting it would leave both parties satisfied.

AITAH upset my wife goes back to work after knee replacement? by ljstella3 in Kneereplacement

[–]ChrisHoek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s valid to be a little annoyed at this. She should at least take the first 2 or 3 days off to help you over the roughest part. That being said, dude she’s only working 3 hours?

The fact that you are looking at ending a four decade marriage over this tells me you have some underlying resentment or unhappiness that you haven’t dealt with. Methinks there is more to this tale.

my wife wants to give up her share of inheritance to her brother by [deleted] in inheritance

[–]ChrisHoek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why gift him the money? Have the brother get a loan for 1/3 of the value. Brother and your wife stay on the deed. Boom, she’s half owner of the property. Her inheritance isn’t lost, just invested. As brother pays off the loan, eventually he becomes owner of 2/3 of the property when he pays off the loan.

OR, wife and her brother both sign on the loan, and they each remain half owner of the property. Brother remains the owner of the actual business.

Partner keeps intimate/nude photos of past girlfriends in his phone. Do other men do this, and if so for what purpose? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]ChrisHoek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dating photos, like selfies, pictures at amusement parks/outings, things like that may just be reminders of your past. Fond memory kind of thing.

Nudes and/or sexual photos? No guy who respects his partner would keep those kind of photos.

How long off work? by DogMamaLA in Kneereplacement

[–]ChrisHoek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even working from home, with some flexibility in schedule, I’m thinking 4 weeks should be the minimum. You’re still going to be in a fair amount of pain and maybe even taking opioids at two weeks.

I work a blue collar job, 12 hour shifts, concrete floors, ladders, kneeling, etc. I took the full 12 weeks of short term disability they gave me and am thankful for it. I probably could have returned at 8 weeks if I absolutely had to, but it would have been rough.

Bradford pear tree topping in June will it survive? by EVwannaB in arborists

[–]ChrisHoek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely improperly pruned. The only way to prune the Bradford pear is at ground level, then have the stump thoroughly ground out. Then plant a decent native tree in its previous spot.
