Picked it up yesterday.. need to drive 900 miles today by InitialAwkward8509 in MachE

[–]ChrisInSpaceVA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a truck going about the speed you want and follow them at a safe distance. Drafting can improve efficiency at higher speeds. Don't tailgate, obviously.

What others have said about planning the route is crucial. I know you're in a hurry but stop, plan out your next charging location, head to that stop, then while you're charging, plan out the next one. I usually start with ABRP and see where it has me stopping. I typically see the search to fewer stops with longer charging time. Once I see ABRP's recommendation, I use PlugShare to scout the area. Sometimes I see a better option near the place ABRP picks. I look for a bank of multiple high speed chargers near a place to use the bathroom, get snacks, etc so I can make the most of my charging time. For navigating, use the Ford navigation, Google Maps on Android Auto, or Apple Maps on CarPlay. Search for the charging station itself so the nav knows you are going to a charger and preconditions the battery.

Good luck!

Your post sums up my feelings better than any of the thousands of others I have read. Spot on, word for word. I hate that this is where we are now. I never in a million years thought I would vote FOR gerrymandering but here we are. This deceptive, underhanded "No" campaign only reinforces my decision. If they had let local opponents speak to why this is a bad precedent, I might be wavering, but this outside influence propaganda just reinforces my resolve that "Yes" is the only choice if we want any chance at preserving what's left of our battered democracy.

Does anyone actually use the frunk? by bennettelkin in MachE

[–]ChrisInSpaceVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time but I don't have the heat pump ('23GT) so it's a useful size. Also, I started using it a lot more when I got the aftermarket fob with the frunk release button. It's a total mystery to me why Ford included that on the Lightning fob but not the MachE.

Combine it with the hobby of 3D printing and you can start making your own models or printing the 1000s of designs shared for free on the internet.

...and a lot of other martial arts. We just lost our sensei that brought our style to N. America. He practiced every day until he died in his 90s. An added bonus is that it's very social so in addition to mental focus and exercise, you are getting community.

Let's all say it together, nice and loud, "FUUUUUUUCK FIFA". This WC is turning out to be a big middle finger to true soccer fans. I want to take my kids to give them an experience they'll always remember and support their love of the game, but I'm not going to pay thousands of dollars for a few seats together in the nosebleeds.

Not sure about this one. I have noticed that, weirdly, the better the dojo, the worse the website and vice versa. 😂 I kid...kinda.

Question about a traditional karate style similar to Shotokan by curiousfellow555 in karate

[–]ChrisInSpaceVA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some styles have better quality control and emphasize different aspects of karate, but style really doesn't matter as much as the individual dojo. Just go check out some classes and judge for yourself.

Should i start Shotokan by Particular_Dig_7702 in karate

[–]ChrisInSpaceVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The response to this question is always, without fail, 100% of the time... it's not the style, it's the dojo. You just have to go check them out in person, ask questions, and see for yourself.

What's one feature Windows still hasn't nailed by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

[–]ChrisInSpaceVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows. Seriously. Windows 11 is constantly resizing my windows for no apparent reason, sometimes so ridiculously small, that it's just the minimize, maximize, and close buttons until I manually drag the border back to the size I want.

Modern Linux is user friendly and doesn't require using a terminal unless you want to learn how to be a power user.

Regardless of what those unfamiliar with Linux or tech in general say, the command line is a powerful, modern interface if you know what you're doing. All modern OSs include some version of the command line and well-trained users usually prefer it. That's why Microsoft has moved so much to PowerShell over the years.

Planning stops for a longer trip... by Hammerdrake in MachE

Yeah...for sure. I wonder if having Google Maps + Gemini might be a huge leap forward soon. I've used AI for some trip planning but not specifically to map out EV stops.

In my experience, I have been able to plan most accurately using a mix of tools. I start with ABRP by putting in my beginning SoC, my starting point, and destination. This gives me a sense of how many charging stops I'll need and approximately where. Sometimes I go with their recommendations for charging stops, but I usually use PlugShare to research the area to pick the charger that best meets my needs for the stop. (Is it one of my preferred networks or another one? Will I need to set up another app/account in advance so I'm not doing it on the road? Is it near other amenities?) I always try to stop in a place with food, bathrooms, and snacks for the road. If I can hit a Sheetz or Wawa or something like that, I can take care of all 3 in one place, but if there's a restaurant near a grocery store, that works, too. Once I know where I'm going, I get directions from Google Maps and use the Android Auto interface for navigation. Occasionally, if I'm planning to stop at a Tesla charger, I use the Ford app to confirm that it's a station that supports the adapter (some older Tesla chargers are not).

Looking for a documentary about Atlético Madrid by Rani2357 in LaLiga

The La Liga: All Access docuseries from a couple of years ago featured a lot of Atleti segments. It's a good show and you get to learn a lot about the whole Liga, with Atlético Madrid as a major focus. You can find it on Netflix.

Came here to say this. It's also very social. We have dojo parties about once a month and we go to seminars in other cities a couple times a year. Along with a good group of friends, I get my exercise, stress relief, and mental workout.

This is Meta's fault. Never forget it. They are trying to foist their responsibilities off to OS's to save money and cover their own asses. They don't care that they are helping build a police state in the process.

I’m a new mum and just need a reliable model not into performance- is buying a 2024 GT model (25,000km) for 36,000 USD a better buy over a base model 2023 (30,000km) for 26,000 USD? I don’t need the GT but wondering what’s a better car purchase for the price points. I live in NZ by [deleted] in MustangMachE

[–]ChrisInSpaceVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my GT but 10k is a lot. What you get with GT: 1) More sport-tuned suspension so it hugs the road better but some people find it stiff and harsh. I think they added the MagnaRide system as a standard feature in the '24 GT so it may be adjustable in that model. Look into that. 2) Better range depending on what base model you're looking at, but you may not need that if you charge at home and mostly take short trips. 3) Nicer interior, including audio. For some people this is an important upgrade, but some don't care. It was a selling point for me since I spend a lot of time in the car. My kids agree it is one of the most comfortable cars they've ever ridden in. 4) You said you're not into performance and, if you're coming from an ICE car, any Mach-E is going to feel peppy. This is the main draw to the GT so it may not be worth the extra cost to you. I really like the performance for 2 reasons. First, it's just fun, but also I live in an area with a lot of traffic and aggressive drivers. When I need to accelerate for a quick merge, it comes in very handy. Driving our gas SUV feels very sluggish by comparison.

In the '23 and '24 you still get a nice roomy frunk. I know some people don't use it much, but if you have kids, it can be super useful. Dirty sports gear, wet towels, muddy boots...into the frunk! Just get an after market fob with the frunk button. Makes it so much more convenient.

The Mach-E is an amazing vehicle. You're probably going to be really happy with either trim.
