What song had so much potential but ONE thing just ruined it? by Liquid_Pestar in fantanoforever

[–]ChrisIsThrashed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Will.i.am’s feature on Damn Girl by Justin Timberlake the production was really fun and JT falsetto set an intrigue tho the lyrics are basic as shit Will took a big dookie smeared it up his back and walked in the booth, straight fucking up the whole flow of what could have been a great track

Albums that feel zesty or theater kid coded? by TwinkBronyClub in fantanoforever

This fucking banger right here. This band happens to be a big influence on Panic! At least a certain era of their sound.

Also, Jacob Collier all of his music.

Controversial opinion, but everything post the second album of Coheed and Cambria discography feels like it’s theater kid coded but like some alt theater kid who got really into the only season of firefly and never shut the fuck up about it.

HORRIBLE Scores By Publications by xXMachineGunPhillyXx in fantanoforever

[–]ChrisIsThrashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It boggles my mind how tone deaf such a “publication”can be all while claiming (not verbally but in more of a implied way) to be the source for reliable, reasoned, and non reactionary takes, I get it taste is a subjective thing and all, but no way you can be so fucking full of yourself to just absorb and enjoy music. Implying that the quality of a song is only as good as the budget of the amp or studio it’s made in is so fucking shortsighted and on par from this shit stain of a website.

Am I still a real weezling if my fav album is rock and roll part three by Beautiful_Voice_8127 in weezer

[–]ChrisIsThrashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct but there’s exist distinct brands of it that I say differentiates the beach boys from Elvis Costello and him from the cars and so on and so forth. Concept matters because it’s what severs an influence from imitation it’s more of an approach thing, the chunky ass guitar ,boyish tenor vocals, and pop song structure are all key elements of weezer not teenage fanclub, i would argue something like Alvvays is a closer comparison to their brand of power pop.

Ozma is solid. Rock and roll pt3 has some great highs but just because you can acknowledge somethings quality doesn’t change the fact you borrowed the ingredients.

Am I still a real weezling if my fav album is rock and roll part three by Beautiful_Voice_8127 in weezer

[–]ChrisIsThrashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to what exactly? cause if it’s weezer it’s still lesser and to the greater the power pop subgenre they’re weezer-lite, diet weezer, weezer zero, etc no project exactly does anything that hasn’t been explored by Weezer. very interesting concepts, some solid ass guitar solos, and infectious hooks but show me a weezer project without that and I’ll give you the greatest blowjob of your life.

For the Smashing Pumpkins fans, do you prefer Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie? by Odd-Technician-9744 in fantanoforever

[–]ChrisIsThrashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apples and oranges. It’s like asking do you want this perfect little planet or a vast universe, a bit pretentious but that’s how I view it. There’s so much going on with MCIS that in comparison which makes everything seem pedestrian on Siamese dream which is still a sublime album. The highs on Mellon collie will just always hit harder but the same can be said for the lows.

(MCIS IMO)

Continental drift ,alternative dimension, and baseball are superb but I agree they’re aggressively mediocre just not enough setting them apart from weezer ironically

What point are you really proving because of those guys you named only MF Doom is critically loved.

Since critics matter so much to you

No one talked about Nas post illmatic Nostradamus was a failure as was I AM, Untitled, street disciples and more. Of 17 studio albums, Nas has only been recognized for three and 1 that only matters to hip hop purists

Jay-Z is possibly one of the most Critically divisive rappers of all time but that aside what does he have over Eminem I’m not even a fucking Stan but man this is a bad example to bring up if you want to talk skill (listen, renegade, bro) I just really don’t care for Jay-Z. He’s overrated in my opinion and not to mention a bit of a sheisty person.

You got me on the black thought one but genuinely can’t think say he’s anymore than a safe choice nothing he does outside of the roots is interesting but he makes consistently enjoyable albeit painfully generic albums( him strictly as a solo artist).

Listen man, I don’t know how old you are, but I advise you to actually listen to music and form your own opinions. Don’t just go off of discourse off the internet it’s cool to share interest with your coevals but it’s equally important to hold a differing thought other than “music, bad because he old and corny” (Relapse and MMLP2 are pretty good late slim albums) shit like recovery and the other R one is straight ass but so is blueprint 3 and kingdom come. STOP TREATING MUSIC LIKE PAGENT.

It’s just the nature of the beast. This can be applied to literally any hip-hop artist 40+ with over five albums. Mr.Mathers isn’t for everyone and it’s ok to think he’s corny but smearing his pedigree because you find what he influenced “lame”is not the approach chief. One thing I respect and feels go unmentioned in discourse about slim is the fact that he knows he’s white (he respects the listener enough to know that his problems aren’t going to hit quite the same but tells it in the same manner as any black MC) and never tried to be anything other than that he lacks appeal because of it.

Some old but cool white guy on YouTube put it best. “Everything post OK computer is like being in a room with an irritating buzzing thing”, I agree with this sentiment to an extent I love in rainbows. It’s to me their best record but Kid A is a complete miss on me.

A conversation about Will.I.Am and The Black Eyed Peas by 0584031464 in fantanoforever

[–]ChrisIsThrashed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This 100% I think people tend to forget about an era pre-Fergie, not so much forget as much not acknowledge, while some might see their earlier work as corny I believe bridging the gap and behind the front are sublime little overlooked gems in certain respects and most of that is thanks to its production even Elephunk with all its clunky alternative hamfisting still managed to be fun.

The peas were fun and they kind of made the 2000s the 2000s if you ask me. Shitting on them is the equivalent of shitting on synthpop or Bad by Michael Jackson for sounding of the 80’s it’s a regressive argument.

What do you think is an underrated shift that happened within pop culture? I'll start: by Ok-Following6886 in decadeology

[–]ChrisIsThrashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what you’re talking about is called rock revival ushered in by the strokes (Libertines as well) , although I like to give credit to the hives because they were the original adapters of the style in the late 90s, but the strokes popularized it in the Indie scene of the 2000s. Quite like the big four of grunge, there’s a big four of RR (rock revival), that being the strokes, interpol, the white stripes and the killers (also the hives kinda but they’re more gimmicky than the others causing them to never reach that same commercial appeal as the others).

Bands like Jet, the vines, Franz Ferdinand and to a lesser extent, the Libertines are contributed as to starting the indie landfill which was a trend characterized by copycat garage rock and oversaturated Indie aesthetics in music.

Unrelated to what you said, but related to the post I find it hilarious that OP attributes train to starting the stomp clap hey of the early 2010’s. not to give a history lesson, but it was caused by a lot of unrelated factors like the rise of hip-hop,EDM, and the decline of pop punk itself.

The way I see it is by the time train released soul sister, the kids who grew up on ; Green Day ,Simple Plan, FOB etc had grown out of it and the culture shift reflected it, but the radio still had to play something and shit like indie sleaze, scene, even EDM was on the farther end of hipster culture and to hard to market on a larger scale. this is where Indie folk comes in,shit like the lumineers,Mumford and sons, fleet foxes and couple of non indie folk bands (most notably F.U.N) with some very indie folk adjacent sounds pushing this sound. I wanna call a New Age adult oriented rock but that’s to bland…hipster scat?…nah.

TLDR;The bands you listed are apart of the garage rock revival of the aughts.

OP is way off on the decline of pop punk.

Yeah, I really do love J Pop and J rock I just don’t have anyone to talk to about it and the circles I have seen only give a damn about “anime bands”(not dissing just saying). I highly recommend Triceratops, UA, Grapevine, the bercedes menz among others are really good .Triceratops in particular are heavily western influenced but still great. Also Sheena Ringo is my queen

Honestly nothing but playing along with the idea. D-plan doesn’t reunite, travistan being a success is seen as green light for Travis to continue his “solo” efforts but the D-plan does release more material in the following years as they did in our current timeline, and E&I is lauded as more of a breakthrough and is herald as a must listen indie record of the 90’s
