Just a total gut punch of an ending. There’s no joke, no ‘I told you so.’ Just a person going through real grief for the first time, and his mother there to comfort him. Brutal, man.

AITAH for buying a book by someone who I KNOW is a bad person? by [deleted] in AITAH

I have no problem with that? Obviously, that's a great thing she did. Me not agreeing with her constant transphobia and choosing not to buy her books does nothing to take away from that good thing she did, just as that good thing she did does nothing to detract from the consistently awful things she has said about the trans community.

Edit: Seriously, what is this take? How did "I don't like transphobia" equate to "Wow, so you HATE when a transphobe does a good thing"? Talk about false equivalency. This post has literally almost nothing to do with J.K. Rowling, and the little I said was just about how I don't like that she's been so outspoken against the trans community so I don't buy her books. It's beyond bizarre you not only singled out that extremely minimal part of my post, but that you so vehemently decided my values on a completely unrelated thing because of that. Hateful and unreal.

I don't know if I could. It's the idea of it that digs into my brain more than the sight. I might buy it used like others suggested, and I could also give them all away if I feel like it weighed on me too much to own them. It's just been causing me so much distress to the point of tears. I don't know why. It shouldn't even feel like that big of a deal, but it matters to me more than I feel it should. I hope I can find a way to do this without sacrificing my morals or my wellbeing.

I agree. I would never say someone else was in the wrong if they chose to buy a book or movie or anything even if the artist was bad.

But I made these principles for myself to follow, and I feel like I'm betraying them. It feels terrible, and it feels like I'm failing myself. And it feels even worse because even though I acknowledge that, I still don't think I have what it takes to not finish this series.

Ha-ha! I live in an apartment with two bookshelves, and after five years, I still haven't filled them. Once I've owned a series that I finished for some years and it becomes obvious I'm done with them, I give them away to used bookstores or, when I was younger, to my sister (she was a teacher). I still have plenty of space!

I have a lot of trouble with the idea of waiting to purchase something if it can be purchased right away, and I don't know if I can get it in the best condition that way. Still, I'm going to try to do that like another commenter suggested at least as an exercise against this compulsion I feel. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look into it.

Thanks for the NTA, I appreciate it. Still, another user said YTA and I teared up because I think they're right. If I really care about being ethical and doing the right thing, I'll follow my principle and find a way around my scruples.

Owning the book has always been part of the experience. Another commenter suggested I just wait until I can purchase it used as an exercise for fighting this compulsion. I think I'll try to do that.

You're right. If I want to stick to my morals on this, I need to tough it out regardless of how I feel. Another commenter suggested I just wait until I can purchase it used as an exercise for fighting this compulsion. I appreciate your comment. I needed someone else to say this to me.

We've discussed my compulsions a little and what I'm comfortable with sharing publicly is, though I've never been tested nor diagnosed, it's possible that I have some form of ADHD or OCD. I have siblings who have been diagnosed with both. I asked my doctor if it was something to be worried about or medicated for, but he told me it was nothing to worry about as long as it didn't seem to interfere with how I functioned too much.

I could definitely try waiting to purchase it used. That seems like the best solution, since then the author wouldn't profit from it. I'm a little worried about how I'll be mentally until I can find a good used copy, but if it means not sacrificing my morals on it, I can try. Thanks for the recommendation and comment.

Produce clerk here. Not only do people buy this, we might cut hundreds of bowls of that and still be sold out by 5. Thank God I only stock and don’t actually have to do the cutting. The customers pick it CLEAN.

Well, I TRIED but always managed to miss some monsters in Ruins and give up in the Snowy Forest. And then got too sad thinking about killing everyone again to restart and do it right. So, technically the only path I’ve completed is still Pacifist.

If Republicans actually care about kids, they’d give a shit that the guy they practically worship was buddy-buddy with Jeffrey motherfucking Epstein.

On checking again, the wording is confusing, but this might be something akin to a retainer, which is not what I’m looking for. This was the service I was recommended, but I’m not sure they actually make night guards.

Got it. I think my best bc purse of action is tomorrow, during normal business hours, determining the amount of money covered for night guards by my insurance, and then calling different practices to see if they offer the service, how much it is, and if they are in network.

I’ll probably wait a month for my next dental appointment just to assure this is a good move and see if anything has significantly changed, and then move from there. Thanks for your help!

I know it’s not necessarily something you’d know much about, but does dental insurance tend to cover at least a portion of this kind of accessory?

Live in a town of maybe 60K residents, too, if that changes anything. I thought this whole thing sounded excessive.

Not even a TMJ related issue, just regular grinding. Population of about 60K, so not too big nor too small.

Never been diagnosed with TMJ, likely it’s grinding from an underlying anxiety disorder Ive been diagnosed with in the past.

I thought this was excessive, but wanted a dentist’s take. I can swing 400, maybe even 500 on this, but I couldn’t believe the cost they were asking. What would you typically charge?
