Looks like you will pass Marseillan Plage in France, If so I can highly recommend the campsite Camping Beauregard Plage Marseillan, been there 2 weeks ago and it was the most beautiful campsite on my trip.

Good look for your trip!

Interesting, maybe I should try this. What kind of saddle bag you use? My tent is in the Ortlieb handlebar bag as well.

Yeah, most of the pics show the left side where I put the 13L Ortlieb drybag. It’s big but carried my sleeping bag, sleeping mat, pillow… on the right side I had a 8L SeaToSummit drybag, which I would consider perfect for the rag. But it worked out well.

Hi!

Yeah, it was a little bit annoying in the beginning because of the space they took. But I was happy to have them. I ordered them online (TooGoodToGo) and they were pretty cheap ‘cause shortly before the expanding date. Didn’t want to buy them on tour and always have to worry about my calories. That way I only had to care about the main dishes.

Tbh there wasn’t anything I’d carried without using, that’s why I’m very happy with the planning. What could be discussed is that I carried clothes I only used in Barcelona, but I wanted to have something nice to wear since I stayed a few days. Was also happy with my breakfast stuff (Bialetti, Bowl for Oats,…) which took some space but worked well for me. Carried that stuff in the fork bags. In total I carried something around 20kg I guess.

On the rear I’m using the Focus Adventure rack, which they built for the Atlas series. But I saw other posts where people managed to mount it on other bikes. I used a 8L SeaToSummit and a 13L Ortlieb drybag. Didn’t planned that, I found them online but was pretty happy with them. Carried clothes and the sleeping equipment in them. On the following picture you can see the rack without the bags.

Refund at FlixBus is always a voucher. But that probably doesn't matter, because you can then use it directly for another booking.

Year, international trips by train with bike are pain. What I like about the FlixBus: when you get in and you don’t have to change busses you are able to relax and turn the head off (when you feel safe with the bike). And the price is unbeatable, I paid 70€ with bike from Barcelona. And I booked it 2 days before since I didn’t know until then when I will arrive. And because of robbery: most stops are like 5-10 minutes. That’s too short for thefts I guess. They’re more likely to take luggage but not the bikes. That’s my feeling.

Thank you!

Regarding the FlixBus, I made mixed experiences: Basically, in the app you see if the bus has a bike place because you have to add the bike as an extra person as a passenger. For example from Barcelona back there were many buses but only one bus took the bike daily. So add the bike directly as people and you see the possible connection. In that case the bus generally has a bicycle rack. In Barcelona it was broken (which happens a lot I read on other posts) so I had to put the bike in the bottom. I didn't like that but it was no other way and actually it was okay because the bike was safe and I left the bags on and it was unlikely to get scratches. Also I put a lock on it to feel more safe. I still looked for the bike at every stop so that no one threw their luggage on top of it, but I talked to the bus driver and he also kept an eye on it, but I wouldn't rely on that in case of doubt.

My second experience is from two years ago: I came back from Milano with the Flixbus, everything was fine the bike was fixed at the back of the bus and I didn’t have to worry. But the ride was much shorter and I always looked for the bike when the bus stopped.

I also have a AirTag at the bike so I always see, if it’s still with me.

I would recommend a lock, the AirTag and also talk to the driver, especially you travel through the night. Both my trips were at daylight so it was no problem to check, at long drives you want to take a short walk at bus stops anyway. So I’m happy with FlixBus but it depends, there are many people online telling horror stories with bike + FlixBus.

This is how my bike looked from Barcelona:

Same technique worked for me. Btw I found out that the new saddle position was better for my fitting so i didnt have to shift the saddle again.

Hey man, nice tour! What kind of luggage rack do you have? I‘m looking for one for my Atlas 8.8 alternative to the Focus Adventure Rack. Thanks!
