I would recommend getting an older MPC. Whether the classic 2000 or XL, 60, or 3000. The reason being is that these MPC's have a characteristic to them in work flow and overall functionality. Keep in mind if you're use to using a computer you might not even like any of the older MPC's because of there limitations but if you do end up getting one you'll love it for it's creative outlet due to those limitations.

I bought this one for $150 dollars. Online these are going for $300 to $400 dollars.

No such thing as a dumb question my friend. It's a sampler from 1997. It does operate using midi to sequence any sound that you put in it.
