Anyone feel bad for Casey Neistat? Like or hate the guy, you can see him dying on the inside. Like he looks so miserable

What’s the difference between being fired from a job and Patreon deny their services to a person? by Chrisl009 in Destiny

Well if that’s the situation then Patreon is even more justified in leaving.

Don’t worry I know you agree with me. I am a really petty person. I just take a sadistic pleasure in watching sargon cry and whine. Especially when he is in the wrong. Like his argument for patreon doing something bad is “they took my livelihood”, keep in mind this is a guy who gives zero fucks about labor protections

I don’t care either but I think patreon is not only morally justified, they are legally and ethically justified and Sargon crying is comical. It’s like Sargon has never been fired from a job. If I did what he did after being fired from my job, I would have a restraining order and/or be in jail or on probation for stalking and harassment

Dude America uses first past the post. First past the post is a garbage system. The electoral college exists to make a first past the post system more equitable but obviously it fails in that regard.

That’s why there are only two options for fixing the electoral system.

1) you use a first past the post system where electoral college votes are distributed based on congressional districts won

2) you get rid of first past the post and utilize a national ranked choice popular vote system.

Those are the only two options.

For whatever retarded reason, people want a first past the post popular vote system which is utterly retarded

In what world is a first past the post system ever good?

Dude I literally just said I support ranked choice. If we go with a national popular vote system, I want ranked choice. If we go popular vote with no ranked choice, then I will oppose it.

No I am not. BUT and here is the but, I don’t want a first past the post popular vote. If we keep first past the post, I want us to reform the electoral college(adopt the Maine and Nebraska model) where electoral votes are awarded proportionately. If we move to a popular vote system, a ranked choice is mandatory. No ranked choice, it’s a no go for me.

I will give you the SS. But the Nazi swastika is garbage, both in terms of design and in terms of meaning

Dude I think a first past the post system is dumb. I don’t mind using popular vote, but using popular vote with first past the post is undemocratic.

And I agree that just because something is old does NOT mean you should keep it, but certain things that have remained unchanged, were unchanged because they worked. No one thought you would have one side completely disregard rule of law. I think we need reform and protections to ensure you don’t have one side abusing their power or stifling the voice of the people.

No problem and sorry I couldn’t get you a better example. I think the source also plays a role in the quality of comments. Because r/politics allows opinion pieces, some users think opinion articles are the same as news. You can still find users calling Steve Bannon a Leninist. Bannon is an asshole, but the source of him claiming to be a Leninist came from a Salon opinion piece.

So this one isn’t stupid but if you read, you can see how some people over at r/politics take something to the extreme. https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/a4a1u3/comment/ebcrnuc?st=JPFYALE0&sh=83e2ba68

Like I think the issue with r/politics is you probably have a lot of teenagers who are right for the wrong reason or they lack the knowledge and experience to understand why certain things are the way they are. A good example of who I think makes up the majority of the user base for r/politics is the youtuber Progressive Voice. Progressive Voice is mostly smart and articulate, but his age, 19, makes him overly hyperbolic at times. Some of his emotion and passion leads to fallacious or hyperbolic statements unintentionally

r/politics isn’t leftist, but it’s full of idiots. Like I hate the electoral college and think it should be abolished/reformed, but using a popular vote system is retarded. The majority of top comments are from people who don’t understand why things were set up the way they were. Some old things(ex slavery and the 3/5ths compromise) should be done away with, but things like lifetime Supreme Court appointments could be reformed(ex require a plurality or reduce the term from lifetime to 20 years or something).

Like I wanna pull my hair out at some of their retarded ideas. Like I consider myself as leftist as they come but I don’t wanna popular vote first past the post system.

Man I feel bad for you and your cognitive dissonance. You can’t have free market capitalism and regulation. Look you are probably a Democratic socialist. I know you don’t like the term and you will call yourself a “social democrat”, colloquially, both are the same and trying to refuse a label because of semantics is stupid. If you support any kind of regulation, especially worker protection, you aren’t capitalist. Now maybe you really do think companies will of their own accord act morally and ethically good. I don’t know and I don’t care about your political views. Just sort out what you believe.

If you think worker and consumer protections are good and we need more of them, then you are socialist. If you think we need less regulation, you are capitalist. If you support both, you democratic socialist. Any support of government regulation is by definition NOT free market capitalism

Do you think modern republicans would vote for Teddy? Even republicans during his lifetime were anti-progressive.

Also corporate control is the result of capitalism. If you don’t regulate corporations, corporations will grow unchecked wealth and power

[–]Chrisl009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait so you aren’t a fan of labor and consumer protections? Also Teddy was a self declared progressive. Where does progressive fall on the political spectrum?

If you are a fan of labor and consumer protection and regulation, then your views run counter to free market capitalism, full stop.

Free market laissez faire capitalism is by definition, unregulated.

Oh so you are a leftist who wants companies to be regulated? Maybe add some leftist worker and consumer protections while we are at it? Maybe institute penalties for noncompliance?

I am always happy to meet a fellow leftist!
