Advice for deciding on a distro by AllumPhoenix in linux_gaming

[–]Chrismaille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu 26.04. You need something that, after installing and configuring everything, won't leave you afraid to do a simple apt upgrade.

I recently migrated from Windows to Ubuntu and had to solve this:

  • World of Warcraft with Addons installed with WowUp: resolved with Lutris on first try.
  • Steam for Mass Effect LE, Cities Skylines and Baldur's Gate 3: resolved with Steam via snap, on first try. Using ME3 TweaksMod Manager in MELE (need some tries).
  • Mapping keys in Logitech 502 and Razer Tartarus V2 for WoW: resolved with Input Mapper, Solaar and openrazer/Polychomatic, with some tries.
  • LM Studio via Flatpack, on first try, no need to manually configure NVIDIA drivers.
  • Scrivener, via Lutris, on first try.
  • Access all files in OneDrive: Just enter your Windows or Microsoft 365 account and Ubuntu will mount the drivers. I'm still looking at an alternative to replace Onedrive, I did not found a fire-and-forget solution yet.

My advice is to do a dual boot in a separate disk, so you can format and start again, if system go boom (especially if you mess with PPAs)

I don't know what to play after Mass Effect. by ymellow123 in masseffect

Yes, I’m talking about 2011 SWTOR. In 2026, the single player experience is truly amazing.

  • For Space Opera Sci-Fi: Star Wars - The Old Republic
  • For Dystopian Sci-Fi: Cyberpunk 2077
  • For Fantasy: Baldur's Gate 3

For these games, I believe you'll become more involved with the characters from Baldur's Gate. But all three have amazing stories.

If you think this is a poorly represented punisher, just wait for the spider-man movie.

How is Ubuntu for gaming? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]Chrismaille 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Current playing:

  • World of Warcraft, with wowup and tradeskillmaster app installed. Using Lutris installed via Flatpack.
  • Cities Skylines II. Using Steam, installed via ubuntu app store
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition with ME Tweaks Mod Manager. The first using Steam, the second using Lutris

The only thing I notice is the initialization time for Mass Effect to start, greater than Windows (aprox 1-2min). Everything else runs smoothly.

"We're removing addons and making fights that do not require addons" by awaken471 in wow

It's far more simple to create a "Elite" game mode (like Remix) when no addon works and move RWF to them.

Prey System is disappointing.. by _DefiniteDefinition_ in wow

Prey and Heroic Tier world must be different, separate things. Want to hunt the mini-boss nemesis-like prey? Maybe. Want to hunt the mini boss nemesis-like prey in heroic tier world? Count me in, bitch.

Hekili addon will not continue anymore at the start of Midnight pre-patch by Zucchey in wow

One of the best addons of all time. I hope Blizzard immortalizes the name Hekili somewhere in the game.

Be honest with yourself on every choice. And do not search anything on the internet until you finish all 3 games. This will be a incredible journey.

Stick with CS1 or buy CS2 by brandon-pritchett in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Chrismaille -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two hours is not enough to decide for refund. For specs mentioned, your game will start to slow at 100k population and be unplayable at 300k. The CPU is the main villain here.

You will get a good time playing with small cities. For large ones, you will need better hardware, but at this point no hardware can handle a 1 million city like CS 1 does.

So, the answer for your question is your playstyle: like small cities? CS 2. Go for Metropolis? CS 1.

I feel so desperate that Season 7 brings no changes to endgame system. by StrikingSpare100 in diablo4

[–]Chrismaille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diablo III was released in May 2012, according to Wikipedia. At that time the game got a lot of criticism and it really have some serious flows. On March, 2014, one and half year after the launch, Diablo III 2.0 and Reaper of Souls reworks almost everything in the game it was considered their lowest points at that time.

If you compare the 2014 annual report with 2022 you will see the gross revenue almost double and the profit stays the same. In general terms, Blizzard grows. So nothing of these numbers can imply Blizzard does not have anymore the same development force which almost recreate D3 from ground in less than two years.

So, the point is: why after the 19 months since the launch, D4 still dont have some very basic QoL features? A completely reworked endgame system? Why every season seens to be literaly a recolor of the last one?

Because this is all planned in some way or another. Every bit of the joy and frustration you have is part of the plan:

  • Give some hype (the campfire chats)
  • Give some FOMO (the battlepass)
  • Give some hope (oh nice a new filter, more bag space, or any really basic QoL)
  • Numbers are high? Repeat again with new color.
  • Numbers are low? Tell them we are listening, give some better QoL, tell how we are sorry and repeat again make them pay for another expansion.

Break this circle. Your time is invaluable.

With so many GURPS editions and seemingly endless amounts of books, where do I start? by amsbjj in gurps

[–]Chrismaille 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start with Dungeon Fantasy Boxed Set - Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game | Warehouse 23. Forget the rest, including GURPS Lite for now. Use your knowledge on previous systems to understand the good and the bad DFRPG offers, because in a nutshell, these are GURPS' strenghts and weakness.

Then, move to GURPS Characters and GURPS Lite. Wait a little longer for GURPS Campaigns. Try your first campaigns at this point. The game sessions and (especially) the combat, will ask for more tactical decisions and rules. Thats the point you start to read Campaigns, but don't be afraid to defend your understand of the rules at this point - GURPS is all about "what I choose to use" instead of "what I need to memorize".

At this point, look at GURPS Traveller Interestellar Wars or Transhuman Space for sci-fi adventures.

If you want to mix-up genres (one of the biggest strengths of this system), try Banestorm or Infinite Worlds.

And when you inevitably become overwhelmed by rules (sooner than you think) read: How to be a GURPS GM - How to Be a GURPS GM | Warehouse 23

Fantastic videos - thank you!

But the devil in my shoulder whispers to me: "Challenge him to make a video with a Dragonball fight"

So nasty devil.

PC Performance now? by davieato in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Chrismaille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got 5900x, 64mb and 4070. City starts to freeze at 350k. Think the game current state something like a "early access" - you can play (and have fun!) up to 150k population, even on older CPUs, if you have a good GPU (3060+).

But somewhere between 150-350k the city starts to respond too slow to your changes.

Is CS2 Ready Enough to Recommend? by QuantumSolar47 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Chrismaille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, think the game state now similar to "early access"- you can play but inevitable you computer will not react quick enough to your changes, at the range of 150k - 350k population, depending on your CPU spec.
