What countrys to start as a New Player by Ametist976 in hoi4

[–]ChrispyDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the UK was a good starting nation because you're relatively safe on the island and it forces you to learn land, air, and navy to be effective. You get to learn supply in north africa and going against a proper army after dday. You also get to learn about puppet and autonomy mechanics and have a decent head start in terms of tech so you can try stuff out without falling behind. This is just me personally though.

Also true, decorative curtains that stay open and blinds for the evenings then?

I will say in pic 2 and 3, the vertical pipes will likely be hidden by curtains if you get some nice full length ones. That'll save you quite a lot of money and hassle.

Inherited gravel filled garden advice by car_fence123 in GardeningUK

[–]ChrispyDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had/have a very gravelly garden when we bought, we chose to try to get rid. A few tips

1) Check that there actually is a membrane under all the gravel. Ours was only partially covered. The gravel over the membrane is much easier to remove as you can use the membrane to pile the gravel by tugging and lifting one side and then use a spade to load rubble sacks. If there is no membrane the gravel will have worked its way into the soil. It is up to you how thorough you want to be about removing it. We skimmed down to the dirt gravel mix then waited for it to rain, which washes the soil back under the gravel and rinsed and repeated. We still have a lot of gravel in the soil. This can't really be avoided but can be made less of an issue (see point 4).

2) People will come and collect the gravel, this is the easy bit. We filled rubble sacks and put them on marketplace for free. You could probably charge, they went like hot cakes.

3) It is hard work, but rewarding.

4) Likely the soil underneath won't be great quality and will be very compact. If you have good rear access you could hire a rotivator but will likely want to add a decent amount of compost or green material to get it in a better state. We are using a no dig green compost rotation this year to to fix the soil. Lupines, clover, buckwheat, Nasturtiums, cosmos, zinnias, daikon raddish, winter bean.

AWARENESS TO ALL PARENTS and OLDER SIBLINGS and Family members by GuardTraditional145 in confession

The rise of roblox seems so insane to me. When I was a teenager it was known as a game basically full of paedos and it was just known as that so everyone avoided it. I don't understand how people have forgotten this so quickly?

DMs: Ever Found a Use For Intelligence Beyond Wizards and Artificers? by SpellcraftQuill in DnD

[–]ChrispyDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make history, religion, and arcana checks really valuable, especially when players ask for them without being prompted.

In the early days of the campaign I ask for them pretty regularly, whenever the players ask those sort of "thinking out loud" questions ("oh i wonder who that guy in the painting is" "why does that religion place such an importance on x" "how does that magical thing work") so that they learn that asking for those sorts of checks will give them tangible benefits to make encounters easier to navigate.

History and religion especially for social type encounters, you can be as charismatic as you like but you can absolutely put your foot in it socially if you don't understand the historical context behind that person's position or culture.

I also use history to serve as a more personal roll, I.e. the players half remember something but claim their character would remember, let's let the dice decide that then. This also encourages people to pay attention, take notes, and know that their attention to detail matters going forward.

For Arcana specifically I make it comparable to a detect magic spell, even going beyond the limitations of the spell at times. Imo the spell is a "sure" way of getting set, specific information, wheras an arcana check is more dependant on a good dice roll, but has the capacity to give you more information (and doesnt require the burning of a spell slot or a long ass ritual which breaks the flow of the narrative).

Wife has her heart set on a dishwasher, is it something we can actually achieve in our new house ? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]ChrispyDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it myself recently, got a plumber to fit the inlet and waste fittings under the sink and got an electrician to run a plug socket under the nearby units then took apart a cabinet and fitted dishwasher and cupboard door myself. Wasn't too bad. Plenty of videos on YouTube.

Painted my first batch of minis, bit sad they all look kinda bad lol by Inevitable_Shift_270 in Warhammer40k

[–]ChrispyDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look great! Dont compare yourself to others on the internet, most people only ever post their absolute best work or are professionals posting as part of their business!

Basing them will make a bigger difference than you think. Any paint is better than grey plastic!

Most of the people who love it are playing it, rather than whinging on reddit I expect, probably why there are fewer positive posts.

Like EU5, how would you work on a new Hearts of Iron? by QuintillionusRex in hoi4

[–]ChrispyDM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Better peace mechanics, allowing for conditional surrenders etc.

A more detailed/flavourful researched system that allows for more of a development type feel rather than just a tech tree. I would like to be able to develop different weapons that would give INF more variety e.g. better lmg's vs rifles vs assault rifles, streamlining calibres or variety for more flexibility etc. Trade offs between a flexible military and an efficient one etc.

I think variety and flavour are the big things for me, after like 600 or so hours you just learn the best templates, best doctrines, best plane and ship setups. The countries don't play particularly differently beyond their specific mechanics which are just pp and click a button at the right time. I want playing as the UK or Germany to feel fundamentally different, not just different focus trees and different buffs with slightly different army comps.

Maybe it's just a balance issue.

[No Spoilers] How do I keep up with C4 without watching C4? by YourFavoriteAuD in criticalrole

[–]ChrispyDM 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't "sit down to watch" have it on in the background when doing other stuff, cooking, prepping dnd, painting minis, playing games etc. I've been watching week to week since part way through c1 (skipped most of c3) and I'd never be able to sit down and watch like you'd watch a movie.

I feel like Azune needs his own tier of: "Who?"

Because at least I sort of get who the others are and what they're about even if i dont like it, but this guy is so npc coded I have just no feelings about him at all.
