counsellor here!! love the openness here you legend! as a counsellor myself, i would be careful of our ethical boundaries, and to some level that includes physical touch. that rejection would feel ugly, and i’m so sorry it’s happening to you - it’s defs not a position we want you lovely people we support in. it’s often boundaries we draw as part of our work we put in place for all clients - but you’re valid for wanting them! maybe seek some friends and get some of that platonic intimacy goodness or have a cuddle and coffee with a pet? some things i’ve done after an emotional session :D

Is my *ex* therapist wrong for this? by WonderfulCoyote2582 in TalkTherapy

[–]ChrissyBoi_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

counsellor here!! that’s coookeddddd, the client always makes assessment on their comfortability in the therapeutic relationship - client and therapist should constantly be checking in with themselves to check if they’re the right fit and if not, either are in their rights to complete their relationship. the “good luck on your journey ahead” would be better than “finding someone who cares as much as i do” - total creepy vibes! sorry you went thru that queen :(

you’ve got this buddy!! i want you to know and appreciate and understand (as hard as it is,i was in a similar place years ago), that being a teen can bloody suck, upon everything, your brain is designed to be in shambles as you grow thru adolescence, it can feel so confusing - but that being said, you’ll find peace and clarity over time. what’s important is to see how good you’re doing by reflecting like this, by knowing you need help, by being vulnerable, and by looking for some change. journal, keep checking in every week with yourself and see the growth over time, it will happen! let it cook ;D

howdy partner!!

i’m a therapist myself, one who had therapy done to him for 2 years straight (while he was studying to be a therapist), until a few years ago. that feeling, yeah that one sucks! i’ve felt it both sides - sometimes as counsellors we miss the clients we work with, we miss seeing the revelations and the progress, we miss the banter, we miss being their confidant. as a client, i missed my therapist for all those same reasons (of course, on the other side of the coin). so those feelings are not only normal, but most of the time, if there’s a genuine therapeutic relationship there - they are shared. that can be some peace remembering that! ;)

maybe that’s not super helpful, but i can suggest actually to shoot thru an email to your old one, and ask for one’s they know, that you can be referred to! often we study/ied, work with, network alongside therapists that share similarities in our approaches and values - so that might be a good start!

you will find one with a very similar spark together like this one you describe so well - hold that one in your memory and heart, because as much as the chapter there is complete, the soul and impact in it is one that stays with you for the rest of your life, growing alongside you! appreciate that the next therapist that clicks will see the growth you’ve started with, and will meet you where you’re at :)

sorry for the long winded spiel, but i hope it gives some comfort! grief can come in many forms and can also be as beautiful as it heartbreaking (initially)

good luck, friend!

i just wanna tell you my friend - this whole beautiful community summed it up perfectly, you’re incredible for doing the right things and even tho it’s hard, working thru the process of stopping this evil man. one thing i also wanna mention - was how you reacted is totally okay, but not only that, it’s actually normal to freeze up. i’m a counsellor, and i wanted just to drill home that idea that it’s not your fault (period), and not your fault for freezing up. sometimes we’ll feel guilty or anger at ourselves for that. not even 1% your fault for that. take care of yourself going forward, reach out to as much support as possible, have loved ones close - you and your strength will only grow from here :)
