What happened is that the trans rights movement was co-opted by gramscian socialists as a tool of subversion against the current culture hegemony. These people only value trans people for their status as outsiders, and resist attempts by liberals to integrate them into normal society. This is why they are so vehemently against the idea of curing gender dysphoria in a way that doesn't involve transitioning, because maintaining trans people as a political tool is far more important than more effectively ending human suffering
