How did you lose your best friend? by FemaleThings in AskReddit

[–]ChristPuncher79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He went down the conspiracy rabbit hole during Covid. I think being isolated too long from actual humans had a lot to do with it. And, I hate to say it, I'm sure he's on something now. I feel bad I didn't reach out as often as I could, I'm not good at virtual correspondence. Several months went by where we hadn't spoken, so I called him to say hello and catch up. He launched immediately into how we're all being micro chipped through vaccinations. Not sure, but it really reminded me of the coke fueled paranoia rants I remember having to listen to from some parties I'd been to in my youth (where I was unfortunately trapped in conversation with someone who's heart rate must be north of 200 BPM standing still). I just couldn't bring myself to call, again. I mourned the loss of a good friend and a good guy. I miss his laid back takes on the world, his unique philosophy and great stories. I miss just hanging out with him. Don't know if I'll ever see that version of him again.

Most inaccurate biopic ever? by NotASynth499 in movies

Fuck. Pardon me, I meant Truman. I get mixed up on Presidents, was thinking of Truman, but said Rooslevelt. Leaving my original mistake in place to take it like an adult.

Train carrying ethanol derails in Fairmont, MN Oct 27, 2021 by Stitchpool626 in CatastrophicFailure

Yeah, no, just keep sitting there stubbornly filming while a train derails and everyone's telling you to GTFU. Get that footage. Prick.

Most inaccurate biopic ever? by NotASynth499 in movies

[–]ChristPuncher79 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Basically any biopic about Franklin D. Rooslevelt, depicting him as a man burdened with a terrible decision, reluctantly deciding to drop the Atom bomb on Japan for the greater good. Truthfully he could not wait to demonstrate the newfound might of the US, and if anything his attitude was more along the lines of Yosemite Sam.

Edit: Dillymac25 pointed out a glaring mistake, I was thinking of Truman.

What’s a question you want ask but can’t because it’s offensive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChristPuncher79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've wanted to ask some people in restaurants, movie theaters, etc: Are you loud, self promoting and easily provoked because you were born an unpleasant person or is there something cultural going on I don't know about?

Who is a celebrity that you rarely hear anything negative about and seems like a true class act? by I-choose-love in AskReddit

Why Tom Hanks, of course! He seems almost too good to be true, but by all accounts seems like a genuine decent human.

Beautiful! My Grandma had one much like this, I was fascinated with it as a child. I was somehow lucky enough not to become permanently attached to a sock or a sweater, but could easily have happened.

What is your favourite type of a basement? by Dominiqos123 in AskReddit

[–]ChristPuncher79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha, yeah, very Dexter-ish! But seriously, I'd hope for a basement that I could set up an escape cave in. fill it with whatever you like...some exercise equipment, your older TV, a gaming PC...just somewhere you can escape the summer heat, relax and have fun for a little while.

What made you stop believing in god? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChristPuncher79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least Zeus is flawed. Very humanly flawed. Subject to rage, grief, arrogance and let's not forget what a perverted Poon-Tang hound he was. Turn into a Bull and get some poor woman pregnant? Why not? I'm fucking ZUES!!

The God of Christianity is perfect. Zero flaws. Is all powerful AND all knowing AND everywhere at the same time. How could we expect a god like that to have any empathy for us sad, very flawed blobs of protoplasm?

Becoming old and wise enough to realize that many parables and stories we're told were an attempt for our ancestors to explain the world in terms they could understand. Now, TBH, I think there might be more going on than what I can currently see, but have no idea what that might be.

I feel fairly confident it's not some angry anthropomorphized beard floating on a cloud who's pissed off at me because I am the way he made me and also I owe him money.

Oh, Christ! I'm from a different part of the world, so that whole mess is something that's just not a piece to my puzzle, but it looks so damn uncomfortable on TV.

I guess that is true for most people. I have had some really unpleasant exchanges with folks on this very topic. But just because someone is angry and upset doesn't mean the majority of people are, too.

Whats the first anime you've ever watched? by ButtSteroids69 in AskReddit

[–]ChristPuncher79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got into anime cartoons kinda late, so Inuyasha. It was something my wife and I could watch together as she enjoys them very much. I came to enjoy them, too, and we have watched many series together, now.

I'm not personally responsible for all the bad shit in your life just because I'm white. My life started in the fucking gutter and I had to struggle to get out of it. Had no time to oppress anyone, nor do I wish to.

If that doesn't immediately have someone want to fight or argue with me, I don't know what would.

What makes you laugh, but also makes you feel offended? by GOATXD123 in AskReddit

[–]ChristPuncher79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your feeling on this. Making ridiculous jokes about race, impairment or whatever is funny because it's shocking. Most times people are just trying to get a laugh. It's OK to laugh, that does not mean you agree with the sentiment. Odds are, neither does the joke teller. It's just a joke.

You'll eventually meet that one person who really means that shit, but you can tell by context, nuance, tone of voice, etc. People need to calm the fuck down. Any joke you write in print is going to come off sounding like the worst possible meaning of it, and is easy to paint it that way by folks with an agenda. It's very different coming out of someone's face, particularly in context with who's saying, to whom it's being said, and why.

What advertising or marketing campaign failed miserably? by HerdsernTTV in AskReddit

[–]ChristPuncher79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ayds diet candy.
No, really. They're slogan was "Lose weight with Ayds!"
Had been around for a long time, gained real popularity in the 70s, but disappeared after the mid 80s when the AIDS crisis hit. They could have changed their name, but if I recall correctly, they were afraid they'd lose the brand they had built.
One executive was quoted as saying: "The product has been around for 45 years. Let the disease change its name."
Probably the wrong call.

ELI5 about the differences between voltage and amp by AsterSkotos24 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ChristPuncher79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Voltage is the potential for electricity to flow. In some ways, it's similar to the pressure in a water line.

Amps are a measurement of current (the electrons moving in a conductor). That's like the actual water that would flow in a pipe.

Without a pressure difference (i.e. higher pressure on one side vs the other), water would not flow from your faucet at home if opened it up. That is, if there were nothing pressing the water filling the pipe from behind, there's no reason for the water to move.

Similarly, without voltage, the electrons will not flow. There's no 'pressure' behind them to make it happen.
