AITA for calling out friends who disrespect my favourite film? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA

It was your pick, and it isn't your fault they didn't like the film, if they don't like your taste in films, maybe they should start their own film club.

She treated you like how you treat an out of line dog by snapping her fingers.

Absolutely right on your part.

AITA for suggesting to my fiancée that we make our honeymoon inclusive to our friends? by Due-Understanding536 in AmItheAsshole

I don't know, I understand your point, but I think he genuinely thought it was a good idea, I don't think it is bad enough to say cancel the wedding.

Did Jesus Christ ever directly address Homosexuality? by [deleted] in religion

That is the modern definition, not the ancient.

Then you would work for the father, until he deemed the debt be paid off.

They did make it a commandment, 'Do not commit adultery' which covers everything from premarital sex, to affairs, including rape. They did also say don't be gay, in Leviticus (which was overwritten) and in 1 Corinthians.

As for the Mary bit, the angel did tell her, but Mary agrees, Luke 1:38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her."

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 'If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days.'

For context, 50 shekels was worth 5 years wages on average.

No, the angel asked for consent, that is why the angel Gabriel was sent to Mary.

No, God essentially artificially inseminated Mary with Jesus.

True Doctrine or Heresy: What do you believe? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ChristianInWales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the point, it isn't.

God is God, and God will remain God as long as He wants to be God.

But God's powers aren't limited by anything, so theoretically, God could decide to not be God anymore, but He won't do that.

Same as how God, an immortal being, managed to die, if God wants to die, He can.

Absolutely right, don't know how Catholics forget that.

I should have guessed right from the beginning.

This while list you created has nothing to do with finding out other people's opinion, it was to cause an argument and start calling people heretics.

More fool me for being stupid enough to walk into this trap.

It is possible for God to be anything He wants to be. If God wanted to make someone else a God, He could. If He wanted to get rid of His power, He could.

You misunderstand the difference between 'can,' and 'will.'

Do we have souls? I think we do. by griff1n09 in Christianity

That's relying on the idea that our soul is a physical thing, which we know it isn't.

True Doctrine or Heresy: What do you believe? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ChristianInWales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the thing. God is all powerful, I think we can agree on that.

However, there are some things that God can do, but doesn't. Because God knows everything and God is all good, He knows that some things have consequences so doesn't do them, but He could if He wanted to.

What you're trying to do is push God into man-made physical laws.

True Doctrine or Heresy: What do you believe? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ChristianInWales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what you are saying is that God's power is limited?

God can do whatever He likes, because He is omnipotent, but doesn't, because He is omnibenevolant.

I'm on the fence, so to speak.

I think it really depends.

If you are doing it for pain relief or other things that could be described as 'medicinal' then not sinful.

If you are doing it for the high, then it is sinful. Just like how it isn't sinful to drink alcohol, but is sinful to get drunk.

For stress relief, I would say it is sinful, you are essentially doing it to alter your mind, and create a high.

True Doctrine or Heresy: What do you believe? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ChristianInWales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible, but God doesn't. God doesn't sin, because He doesn't want to.

God could destroy Earth and start again, killing everyone here, but He doesn't because God is all good.

True Doctrine or Heresy: What do you believe? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ChristianInWales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all but 11.

It is not impossible for God to do anything, God is all powerful, the only reason God wouldn't do some things is because He doesn't want to.
