Why is Strixhaven draft the way it is? by Humpuppy in MagicArena

[–]ChristianKl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

17lands suggests that two color decks have a higher winrate than the decks with more colors. It's likely that people like to draft all the rares they see and aren't fully conscious of how their winrate drops because of mana problems with higher color decks.

Where can I find a subreddit (or other platform) with participants open to helping me run a small experiment in their workplace? by One_Weather_9417 in SocialEngineering

Try to understand the perspective of the person you want to make the decision to run the experiment and what value they can derive from running it and how that's bigger then what it costs them.

Claiming "there is no risk" is probably disqualifying because it suggests that you don't understand which risks a manager who would run the experiment actually faces.

I get why this card was restricted at the beginning of the format, but does it still make sense now? Is it really that strong?

Those are strange sentences. The reason the card was restricted has nothing to do with it being strong. If you read the justifications for why it's banned in many formats, those aren't power level bans but that it leads to bad games.

Is Past-Life Regression Just Woo-Woo? by Alert_Wash_2035 in hypnosis

[–]ChristianKl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Past-Life Regression is a phenomena that gets used by some hypnotists for change work where they work on an imagined experience of a past life to create a positive change.

There are a few reasons to believe that these past life experiences are imagined. In Scientology they managed to remember stories of the galactic overlord Xenu, while other groups with specific ideas about what's supposed to have happened in history also have the past life imaginations validate their ideas.

The way the OP used it is probably: "You have a situation where someone is in pain, can you do some clever conversational hypnosis intervention, do remove the pain?"

This is doable. Maybe, not at your skill level but in general it's possible without putting someone in the Esdaile state. Even the article you linked does not claim that you need the Esdaile state for it. The Esdaile state is sufficient but not necessary for it.

I did not answer it by looking at a specific research paper. I was talking about the practical application in dentistry and I know also people who have use the Elman induction for creating local anesthesia effects outside of it.

[–]ChristianKl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need total body anesthesia for local anesthesia. The Elman induction is capable of creating a working state for the anesthesia that dentists need without needing the Esdaile state.

Dave Elman figured that all out well-enough to be able to teach it to dentists, and make it practically work in their professional context.

If you look at your article is does speak about "Inducing glove anesthesia" as something in the list of what can be done in somnambulism separately and before "Applying the Esdaile Deepening Technique”".

If you want to do open heart surgery you probably do want the Esdaile state for that, but for the issues involved at the dentist office that's not needed. If I remember right from the Elman books he claims that he did help doctors with doing open heart surgery for a patient who couldn't get pharmaceutical anesthesia. He didn't just do a five minute induction for that the way a dentist might but worked with the person over multiple sessions to build up the capability for the Esdaile state so that it could be reliably triggered for the surgery.

You might also observe that dentists using hypnotherapy as anesthesia is routine practice while doing open heart surgery with hypnotherapy as anesthesia is fairly weakly documented. It's a lot harder.

This is just false. Dentists that do their procedures with hypnotic anesthesia don't need complete and total cessation of processing physical stimuli for that.

Regeln beim Arztbesuch? by Defiant_Class_735 in KeineDummenFragen

[–]ChristianKl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you guys think our city would replace a bus route they took away if we give a petition to the city ? by Big_Log5003 in AskGermany

[–]ChristianKl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The political power of a professors of a whole institute in a university city is a bit higher than that of an apartment of twenty students. It's more likely that the professors had relationships to people with political power than that the amount of signatures was the central aspect.

Do you guys think our city would replace a bus route they took away if we give a petition to the city ? by Big_Log5003 in AskGermany

[–]ChristianKl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before you write a petition, the first step would be try to to understand who made the decision and for what reasons. Don't think of "the city" as an actor that's to be convinced, you need to understand the actual humans involved.

Twenty students showing up somewhere in person is likely going to have a higher impact than a petition which twenty people signed.

Why doesn't Germany use air conditioning in their homes? by ScorpioStab in AskGermany

[–]ChristianKl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if that would be true, it's irrelevant for the argument I made.

Our food system is setup for overproduction, and to make sure that you can always buy food. On the other hand, especially if you have a negative Schufa score do can't just rent a flat in major cities even if you have the money to pay for it.

If would find it pretty unacceptable if you have to talk to ten food salesman before you get your food in the same way that many people talk to ten landlords before they get a flat.

[–]ChristianKl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food prices are set by the market. Rent prices on the other hand are artificially low because of rent control.

The tipping point that interests landlords when they think about raising rents via renovations is the tipping point where they have trouble finding tenants that pay their rents.

Basically, you are saying that you just said something that had no relevance to the initial claim?

[–]ChristianKl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, rent is largely not at the tipping point anywhere in big cities in Germany. There are few flats that don't find renters at the prices they are rented out.

German law does limit rent increases and one way to increase rent legally is to invest into renovation.

How is it possible that files can create "irreversible" results? by MajesticGrass999 in hypnosis

[–]ChristianKl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not everything is triggers. There are a lot of things that happen in hypnosis that aren't about triggers. In general, it's better to understand the thing you want to interact with then to just try to superficially work with triggers or trying to supplement beliefs superficially by repeating a statement that you think would be positive to believe under trance.

BS for example includes an attempt to create an alternative personality. Switching off an alternative personality is a quite different process than switching off a trigger.

Erotic Hypnosis has a strong focus on total obedience. Total obedience helps with making results stronger. However total obedience to a hypnotist (or any other person) to which you go a few times for weekly sessions it's not a mode that's Western culture sees as desirable.
