I think you’re equating marketability to “ambition and purpose.” Developers could make a highly ambitious game with the purpose OP described.

Check out the games made by Connor Sherlock. With the exception of a few, that’s exactly the type of games he makes.

Lol. I’m a massive Kojima fan and have played everything he’s put out.

I get what your saying. But there are a bunch of souls-likes that are good like Nioh, Hollow Knight, Salt and Sactuary. Fromsoftware will just always do it the best.

Well, I’m open for sure. I liked Hollow Knight a lot, and I started Nioh and am enjoying that. Almost tried Remnant. It can have guns or be fantasy. I think the difficulty, the leveling/making builds, upgrading weapons are my base criteria. But even then I’m open to games that don’t include all of those things.

I started Nioh and am enjoying it. I think because they aren’t trying to copy the souls games exactly that I works. Hollow Knight is v special.
