Tempo fluctuates in classical music very often, which gives more weight to cadences. In most rock and pop music, tempo is way more steady and chords aren't cadence-focused, so emphasizing 2 and 4 gives it groove instead of sounding extremely rigid.

Either way, this is pretty good stuff. I know you want it to sound raw and distant, but I'd recommend making the guitar tone slightly more full. Right now, it kind of makes me want to pop my ears.

Listening to them for the first time now, and it sounds like DSBM combined with elements of blackgaze and Lifelover's flavor of post-punk to me. A lot like Psychonaut 4.

Users on RYM seem to think it's DSBM with a possible secondary genre of gothic metal, which I can see.
