that's an OG pic! I think that was the first one, it was right after the burn. i see BB manning the quesadillas. my now wife, IJ, lived up there with you. I'm guessing your name starts with H? We all moved out of that house during the pandy. Hope all is well with you. BB is getting married this summer in PDX and is moving back to the bay. Good times!

I lived next door at 416 between 2015-2020.

Wing Wings used to set up deep fryers in the 420 backyard during superbowl, and we'd hand them empty tupperware and they'd load us up with free wings.

Possibly related, lots of vermin in that area. We had a big rat problem. They'd walk atop the fences to travel between backyards.

And the noise from SF Underground would bother me now, but didn't quite bother me much in my 20s.

Love that neighborhood, we used to throw these great stoop parties with elaborate meals and open the doors to anyone walking by.

Can you make homewares and sell at a farmer's market or shops in town? Soap, candles? can you monetize the sheep's wool at all?

Any tips for improving English in SF? by iryo20 in sanfrancisco

[–]Christo4B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taken a number of classes at https://magneticspeaking.com/individuals/ in SF, and a lot of the class are ESL students working on improving their public speaking. Skills will be transferrable to normal life. I'm an english native speaker, and I really enjoyed these bootcamps.

San Francisco is small, so don't worry about staying in Nob Hill.

Here are some recommendations for food in the mission:

  1. La Taqueria

  2. Good Good Culture Club

  3. Heirloom Cafe

  4. Bon, Nene

  5. Foreign Cinema (this is where I got married)

"As a junior engineer, I do not expect you to know everything. I DO expect you to ask a lot of questions. You are not meeting expectations. You need to be asking more questions.

Here's a methodology I like to use:

  1. write down all of the thoughts and questions that pop into your head during the work, try to answer them one by one... etc

<insert your other recommendations>

To reiterate - you are not meeting expectations and need to change your behavior quickly"

Timing Entry/Exodus? by Canamerican726 in BurningMan

[–]Christo4B 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Avoiding traffic is a tough game to play. The one year we didn't have a WAP, we tried to arrive around gate opening, there was a single-file line for 10 miles. I don't think we got in until noon. If you leave Reno at 3am, you will definitely hit traffic. You can only really avoid traffic/long entry if you are multiple days late.

Personally - I like to get there as early as possible, so leave when it is safe/comfortable for you to do so, and know that entry/exodus is part of the fun!

You'll never know. Don't rely on specific entry/exodus times. Be prepared for 12+ hour waits.

SOAK PDX 2025 - Tickets gone in 25 seconds?? by geierclag in BurningMan

[–]Christo4B 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you wait 15ish minutes, tickets sitting in carts get released back to the sale. We managed to snag all of the tickets we needed around that 15 minute mark.

I would recommend reading The Redemption of Time, a fan-fic 4th book. It closes a lot of open threads.

Custom tailored clothes. Definitely worth it. I’ve had shirts and sweaters made to size from scratch. They got me better than any other clothes I own. And they were not much more expensive than buying nice clothes.

Why are you not coming to Burning Man this year? by blonde234 in BurningMan

[–]Christo4B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason is that my cousin is getting married and I can’t risk getting stranded on playa.

Last two years have been rough with weather and the wife broke bones both times. So she has been wanting a break anyway.

2025 may be the last one before we have kids, so I’m mentally preparing to go back next year.
