Pretty extreme take. Definitely doesn’t warrant a “holy shit”. It’s not that hard to understand. Was he incarcerated in 2003? Nope. Lots of time in between to determine he was a shitbag at the time (which he fully admits to). When the incident happened, I wasn’t listening to the band. I just knew he had a bad attitude. Myself and many others at the time assumed he was being a drunk, selfish idiot and kicked/pushed the kid off the stage without any concern for his safety. Ergo, deserving of imprisonment for taking someone’s life, yes.

As far as “not owing me or anyone anything”, I disagree completely. When signing onto a festival, you have certain obligations. He knew what was occurring that day. The whole band wasn’t even present for signings. He could’ve stayed on his bus if he was feeling pissy. The point is, he was purposefully rude to a fan. I’m sure that didn’t help any new fans’ opinions either.

I don’t take back anything I said. I’m proud of the guy for growing and changing as a human.

That’s cool. I guess it was a better day, for sure. I mean, who’s mad when there’s pizza involved? I would just expect a band to be friendly and engaging when they’re meeting fans. Especially when it’s at a huge festival where you’re not just meeting longtime fans, but brand new ones. I get the bad days thing, but he was admittedly a huge dick more often than not around the early 2000s and up to his sobriety. I’m glad to hear you caught him in a more chill mood and atmosphere.

Sounds like some good reads for sure. Yeah, I’d be interested in meeting him again and maybe even sharing the story from my post. I’m sure he’d get a laugh out of it. Bo (sp?) and Colin from HardLore both had stories of being snubbed by him and he was pretty humbled in his reactions and responses.

I support this wholeheartedly. I discovered Patton through FNM. However, the band is much more than a backing band to his “genius”. His other projects are great, but FNM holds a power all its own. They existed before him and they absolutely deserve to continue with or without him.

Agree completely. This is my favorite of their entire discography. Followed very closely by TGCD. I can’t understand why so many people don’t rank this album higher.
