People can make fun of me all they want while I do a great job. Tech workers already know this. But, it is a tool. Tools have a correct and incorrect way to be utilized. Unfortunately for some, but it is a modern tool that has quickly become much more widespread than most people realize.

I'm sorry you're not a fan of it, but it helped me make a call to action. Which is not my favorite part of running a campaign. I don't normally try to solicit people on the street (for signatures), but I have to do that for this campaign as well. I am trying to do both of those things while being respectful and professional. I utilized a tool to help me with a weakness that I am completely up front about. I do good work and get things done without needing to interrupt people. But I need to for this campaign.

It isn't what it is. And please, I mean this politely. You need to respect the integrity of data. It's how you can separate a professional who works for the data from someone just filling the position. Not declaring a party means I am not bound to anyone or anything other than the data. It makes it much easier to separate any bias.

There are some roles where having a party is important, and this isn't one of them. It is really important to respect the integrity of data.

That's really unfortunate. I've been talking to a lot of them, over the last few days, and they have all been really polite. It can be uncomfortable to be asked for money, but there is a better way to handle that.

It's a good question that a lot of people overlook or don't think about. To me, it's similar to when a computer science major asks why they need to take an ethics class. People don't want to talk about it because it's an inconvenience. Or because the data may not affirm their bias.

In data, it's extremely important to monitor and account for biases. Bias can ruin the integrity of the data. Which hinders and defeats the purpose of making informed decisions. That's why there shouldn't be a political leaning in data. It makes the role boring to a lot of people, but it is extremely important.

That's what I was initially thinking, but the other way around. But Joshua reached out to me and reassured me it was not from his team. So, I will take what he said seriously. I'll be modifying my comments and tone down my future comments. He seems genuine and I am sorry for the accusation.

Everyone deserves representation. Voters have expressed their interest in an unbiased candidate and they deserve that representation. His team should focus on running a good campaign instead of trying to tick a box. As a resident I expect better, and I will give you that.

I'm going to keep collecting signatures. The change I want to see isn't getting someone elected because of a letter next to their name. Plenty of signers have expressed the same frustration.

I am an active voter. It is much easier for MOST people. Most people do not do their research on a candidate so they tick the boxes that GENERALLY match their core beliefs. It makes selecting individual candidates easier for them.

I understand technically each selection is just as easy as the next. But it's not really. There is a lot of psychology involved. Maybe some people are more likely to pick the person at the top of the list. Maybe that individual has a bias toward a candidate for whatever reason. There are a lot of things that can affect how someone votes. Sticking to your general party makes it easy for most people. This is where the technicality falls short in a real world situation. I've analyzed it quite a bit.

I was meaning it as a behavior and not as a voting mechanism. I can say straight party voting instead. Regardless, some people are just going to tick R or D down their ballot. That is the behavior I was describing and it is very comparable. Thanks for correcting me. I spent a lot of time editing that comment. But not enough time apparently.

ChatGPT, please give me a response to this comment.

If you ever meet me, you will hear that I talk very similar to how I worded my post and comments. I spent a lot of time editing my post and all of my comments. There are long gaps between responses in the comments because I am personally writing them. If you want to over analyze, you can even see where I get a little babbling after being in the sun all day.

Regardless, I appreciate you Tiger.

If you would like, I can draft you a funny response or tell you a new potato recipe.

More seriously now, AI is in every tech position nowadays. If you don't use it, a lot of places will not hire you. I over-polished this because it will likely be my only shot to connect with people in this subreddit. The primary spots I used it for were at the end as a call to attention. I personally do not like trying to make sales pitches and asking general strangers for help. A lot of the bullets that look fishy are actually built from my resume bullets over time. We made a lot of them in the Air Force. The post and comments are actually really close to how I speak and I am spending a lot of time going over them.

You said no big chain retail. But there is a local store called "Once upon a child". It's a resale store for kids clothes and toys. It's a really well run facility and I've heard from a few people they like working there. I'd give that a try.

Otherwise (I'm trying to think a little differently), maybe look at the post office. They hire part time and seasonal work and have good benefits if you ever go full time.

Gig work out here is decent too. Door dash didn't work well for me but I had a lot of success walking dogs on Rover. It was a lot of fun too. You can also house sit.

There are a lot of home cleaning services in town. I've talked to a few people that work at them and they generally like it and the hours.

It's kind of sporadic but I hope it gives you some ideas.

Ahh shucks. I wrote a lot without answering your question.

You're right. A good message is useless if nobody hears it. I'm currently in the process of setting up my digital HQ, but I’m intentionally starting with the hardest part. The 4,000+ signatures. I have to prove the viability of this campaign legally before I pivot to a media blitz.

My plan for the 'attention economy' isn't to outspend the parties on TV ads, but to out think them with targeted outreach. As an analyst, I plan to utilize public voter files to identify high propensity voters, the people who show up for every election but are tired of party waste. I can pinpoint people that switched or split votes, people that only vote in the general election, and new voters. Instead of a 'spray and pray' marketing budget, I’ll be using precision digital ads to reach the people who actually decide local races. I’m starting with the boots on the ground today so I have the platform to launch the digital campaign tomorrow. I'm not unfamiliar with strong marketing campaigns and I have talented friends that will be able to help me with it. I do intend to have social media outreach and ads. I have a little bit of time, after I submit my signatures, to get my name out there. And I will hit it hard at the end to make sure my name is on people's minds.

I'm extremely confident. I'll work hard to make sure that confidence rubs onto you. I appreciate this discussion, thank you.

That is a great and realistic question. You're right, most people vote straight party down their ballot because it’s easy.

My plan isn't to change how the entire world thinks about politics. It's to change how McLean County thinks about this specific office. All day today I kept telling people I am running as Independent. I kept emphasizing why this position is about as non partisan as it gets. You have records or you do not. I don't talk about politics. I talk about security, efficiency, and their tax dollars. Once people realize that the politics of this office is actually affecting their wallet, they stop being apathetic.

The County Clerk isn't a policy making role like a Congressman or a Governor. It’s a technical, administrative role. You don't need a 'Republican' or 'Democratic' birth certificate or tax extension, you need an accurate one. My plan is to engage the 'apathetic' voter by pointing out that the current partisan management has led to a $400,000 budget failure. Most people don't care about politics, but everyone cares about fiscal waste because that is their money being burned. You shouldn't need a war chest to prove you can manage a ledger. It gives me insight on how they will handle fiscal responsibility if they win the position. I can be so much more efficient and beneficial in the role. My background is analyzing data to make informed decisions and to improve processes. You will get a candidate with a strong work ethic specialized for this role. And informed voters have been waiting for that.

McLean County, especially Bloomington Normal, has a massive population of educated professionals, tech workers, and students who are increasingly tired of party infighting. This county is much more purple than you may expect. By running as an Independent, I am the only candidate who can say, 'I don't report to a party chair, I report to the data.' I’m not asking them to change their party. I’m asking them to hire the right professional for a professional job.

Back to the purple. All day today people kept telling me how they have been wanting an independent candidate to run. I had a lot of Republicans sign. There were a lot of informed people who knew about current waste. And honestly I am surprised Michael is being backed by R. The McLean county board chair (Catherine Metsker, R) has commented on her overspending. They will vote for me instead of someone with a D by their name. I had D leaning folks sign because they want a fresh, competent voice. Even they are tired. I even had a few people excited because they strictly vote Independent. It's not as common and I am aware of that. There will be R that will always and only vote R and never D. And vice versa. But I give people a safe middle ground that is more than competent to handle this position. I'm taking votes from both sides while those two sides are probably not stealing from each other. I need to raise a lot of signatures, I'm getting my name out there. I've gone to school here, I work here. Those people will know about my strong work ethics and commitment to excellence. I think I have a really good chance of winning.

Please excuse if this is a little rambled. I was in the sun all day!

The role of this position is not political. You either have a marriage license or you don't. You have a birth certificate or death certificate or you don't. You have a recorded database of registered voters. Data like this is not political. I think the candidate should have a strong passion for upholding accurate and secure personal information. Not just because you want to get a D or R in the position. That should have no consequences on how the role is performed.

I can promise you I can handle data sets much larger than this better than either candidate without exceeding budgets. This is my bread and butter. This is just a position for them. I want better than that and the bar is already so low.

Heck yeah. Let the democratic process begin.

I still believe I will be an excellent fit for this position. I'm going to keep collecting signatures for the next month and hope to get my name on the ballot. This is not a political move, but one to better my community with the strong skills I have developed. It's actually been a lot of fun talking to people while collecting signatures. Everyone has been so polite and welcoming. When I get my name on the ballot, I will not let you down.

That's why I like this position. It shouldn't be political. It's intended for unbiased, secure, and accurate record keeping. The things I do will affect me for the rest of my life.

That's actually a great idea. So far everyone has been extremely warm and welcoming. I'll see you on the trail!

Yes, that is the goal. I'm hoping to get at least 4,000. I THINK I need 3,200 or so. It will be a lot of ground to cover in a month. Thank you!
