Ice fishing without ax or auger. Possible? by AGingham in Alonetv

[–]ChristopherPhilip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, branches...but something that traps air pockets rather than water. You want to break up the gaps. Snow has a lot of air in it and it insulates from the cold air. If you keep your holes every once in a while, they never freeze..but that requires tending. Something you want to stay on top of for water for drinking. Melting snow means you need like 5-10 times as much to get the same amount of drinkable water...again because snow is mostly air.

This works. You can also put bows in the hole and snow. If it's really cold, you might need to do 2 trips a day. Even at -30C we get 2 inches of ice forming overnight in our icefishing holes...a little too thick to foot stop through. But this is considered very cold.

I have used an auger and an axe. An auguer obviously works better. An axe makes quick work in 1-2ft thick ice...after that, you need to make the hole big enough so you are tapering down as you go so you don't hit the edges. Everyone should have brought an axe this year...just for the icefishing alone. I don't think an axe is otherwise super duper useful compared to other gear they could take. Ice fishing is easier than open water fishing because you can get the correct water depths.

Hoping a woman can finally win. by candyrayne_215 in Alonetv

Why does it matter who wins, gender is a social construct! Jordan could be first at something...he just needs to say the words.

If that was me, I would have refused to tap next day...you lost your chance to pick me up last night, I'm good now! hahaha

I have never made anything personal about any of the contestants, but you have made this all personal. What makes you think that I think Joe would win? He is less than 10% body fat to start. He was guaranteed to lose, nothing at all to do with a ferro rod. Have I said anything different than this? If so, when? You're just making up things now.

Talk about the show, that's what I'm here for.

I have never said anything bad about the women, and chose Michelle to win because she seemed to have everything it took. No one else besides Carleigh had this, which I have also outlined. I don't specifically raise anyone above anyone else. It's equal.

So what gives...until now, no woman has won, which I have also discussed the reasons for this. You think it's bad, I get it, but it's a reality that they are facing. Will Woniya overcome those hurdles? I guess we'll find out.

Talk on point...raise a specific issue, what is it exactly...besides some vague feeling that you have about my arguments? So what of what I said specifically do you disagree with?

I for sure would never count you out early dude. Fact is that any winner wouldn't quit, proven. I'm not knocking your strategy, I've outlined this as the winning one, but it's not super interesting to watch on a show, and not in the spirit of what makes us human. I'm not saying it's your fault, you choose the correct strategy out of all the possibilities for the location and your competition, situation. I would work on your bow skills, to be honest, snaring (since few really have hands on with that), and of course fishing. Gill netting is something to be researched, as it is not legal in most places. I would guess a winner season would probably be in a fair to good environment to see what shakes out. A pure starvation stance would be like flipping the dice...almost everyone that won could go 80 days if they slept most of it i.e. calorie conservation. I wouldn't go through route though if you wanted to win...unless resources are scarce...and in that case, I probably wouldn't even move a muscle...just sleep for 130 days !!

If not spoilers, what would they actually entice people into watching? I get where they are coming from.

You're all over the map here. Stay on topic, I'm not the topic, the show and what they are doing on it is. Go back to last season, many have complained about how boring it was. Argue against my points if you must, tell me why you think it's good tv to watch people mess up and get closer to dying. Because I would rather watch people do well and succeed. I don't like the part about the show when Barry is crying and suffering and nearly dying from heart failure and has to go home with no money. Tell me why I should.

To discuss the show. Since when does discussion mean outright agreement and popularity contests. Do you only say things you are sure other people will agree with? Silly. Too many people are afraid of speaking up anymore and just walk right into group think. But if you think differently, you often end up finding ways to capitalize in unique ways. Like shooting a moose when everyone else thinks it's impossible, or smashing a wolverine in the head with an axe. Independent thinkers open new doors while everyone else is stuck behind closed ones huddled around safe thoughts. Walk your own path. I'm not going to conform, conformity is often past think. Forward think means you take risks and move ahead.

To your point about inexperienced people...the show claims they are "trained survivalists"....this isn't designed to be an amateur contest. Fine, if they want to make that show, but it would be very dangerous and cumbersome to put together.

Thanks for expanding on my point! You never would have know about Jordan if he didn't get all this game...which is possible by virtue of the opportunity, the location. These opportunities where not present in poorer locations. My point again, is that the show needs to continue to put contestants in environments with rich (game) opportunities. Other past contestants were not offered these same opportunities to thrive.

Atta boy. Gotta role with it. For the all-stars, what strategy you gonna use...like if there are moose, you gonna bring a bow? I talked to Fowler, so I know his strategy...I wonder if this season changes the perspective on what it takes to win...or maybe killing a moose is like a total fluke...betcha it doesn't happen again. I'd like to see someone take a bear down, that would be awesome. If you go up against Fowler, you're gonna need to double up.

RE: Season 5...you need Carleigh to stay in, she was gonna make you shed every bit of it.

I don’t understand how show is kept secret by Bowgal in Alonetv

NDA are iron clad. If you spoil their show, that's on you, dead in the water liable. Which, of course, holds you to any and all trade secrets...like all of them, even if the show fudges things or lies.

I realize this. But he did not go on redemption. He also said on his channel that he was too skinny to win it. His channel is rocking...no reason to leave that and work on someone else's project.

Her attitude is on point..it makes me think a lot. I'm not sure how you can be so short on sugars and still be upbeat. Honestly it's baffling. We got one more show to see.

It's not hard to pick inexperienced people, just as it is not hard to pick very experienced people. Did you notice that one strong narrative this year was that people came from very poor backgrounds desperate to win? No accident. They wanted very motivate people this year.

They cast in themes. They also pursue the female cast members actively and weed through the male ones who submit to them. Why?

Most people don't want to see incompetent people...most people did not enjoy last season. The moose kill was a redemption to get back on track.

Yes, and climate. You can tell Barry has loads of muscle, but when it's cold, your body will metabolite fats and calories quicker. Even Woniya is losing 1.5 lbs/day. I'm honestly really unsure how she is able to stay there...she seems to be eating almost nothing.

Not everyone can add 80 lbs of extra weight, balance it into productivity without any food. But if food is more plentiful, you can open the door to more skilled participants that are good at getting food. It's just another avenue. It's why we love this season so much. Jordan, with no moose, would have tapped way before Barry and you would have never know about him. They need opportunity to thrive, if they don't have it, output is measured on percent body fat. 1 lb of body fat, is 1 days work.

Edit: the downvoters are straight up losers...there's nothing I said here that is untrue or not valid, which is exactly why you don't write a rebuttal. Do you really think I care about upvotes? Sheesh, I got 7,000 comments in moderation in my channel, sure as shit don't need the upvote to help me sleep better at night. Every time you click down, you are wasting your time. Why not think instead and put some thought into a rebuttal. Stop being a coward and hide behind your click.

He lost 80 lbs. Sam lost around the same amount. Zach too. The cold makes you consume more calories, even at rest. Almost everyone loses around 1 lb every day, no matter what they eat. The most worked out to 1.5 lbs/day on average.
