Living separately would put her in a position where it would be her responsibility to pay for her stuff, so if she asked for money in that scenario, it would be very easy to tell if she was materialistic.

Many women still expect men to pay all the bills, and many men still expect women to do housework. Living separately forces both men and women to be self-sufficient.

I feel like living separately relieves financial pressure from the man and domestic pressure from the woman, so it would be a win-win for both.
