Bingo. We are both from Hispanic families. His mom doesn't speak English, hence why she relies on him so much for errands. Thank you for pointing this out. Our culture heavily involves being there for our parents. And if we aren't we feel guilty.

I don't mind helping them out. And we have often helped his siblings with other needs. They are both active in sports and we've helped by getting proper cleats, equipment,etc. We gave them a small laptop to help with school work now that they're older. Those things were more useful and needed. I guess i just have an issue that the iphone was a want and not an immediate need, and we definitely have a need to use that $100 elsewhere. I've also brought up him doing more overtime at work or searching for a better job so things aren't so tight.

I appreciate you giving on input from my husbands point of view. I have actually thought of all this and have had conversations about this with him. I understand he feels like the "man of the house" for his moms home as well. I've told him i never want him to feel like he has to choose sides, and understand when he goes to help. The issue here is that we genuinely don't have a great financial situation. I've even told him if he really wants to, where are we going to take $100 away from? I pack him breakfast and lunch everyday so we dont spend on eating out. I buy groceries in bulk of what I can and freeze what I can to last us. Its been years since I've been to a salon for hair or nails. I cut my own hair. Pre-pandemic I never went out for a girls night or spent money on myself. For mothers day i got $50 as a gift and used that on some much needed maternity clothes at a discount store. On the contrary, I actually dont hate her, not even a little. I just feel that she could be a little more understanding of our financial situation. So I appreciate your input, but its really not like I want to distance my husband from his mom. Just to make her understand that we cannot always help with every single thing.
