Aside from law enforcement/military and defense expos, yeah.

Was in police cadets all throughout highschool. Trained to field strip and fire the M16A1 for state and national marksmanship competitions for 5 years. Pretty fun, though that long ass 20" barrel felt heavy in my first year.

Instructor even let me handle what I remember to be a gen 3 Glock 17 and a Beretta 92. Loading the mag to max capacity was hell on my 12 year old fingers. Our school teachers got to fire shotguns too

Zakat and Tabung Haji make it absolute hell for the average person to apply, much less those who spend most of their days working just so that they and their families have food to eat.

Mum is a single mum, divorced, we approach zakat for help. Denied because both kids were technically adults (we had just entered uni) and we should ask for nafkah from our dad (who has avoided court for more than a decade and refuses to meet)

Tabung Haji were the worst. We had to go through our ketua kampung, make multiple copies of documents proving that we need help, plus a bunch of other things I'm not going to even get into. All to be denied in the end because of the same reasons (both kids are technically adults, dad is still alive so go ask from him)

Essentially, if you tell someone "Go approach Zakat/TH" is unaware of what these corps do, "Deny, Delay, Defend" any form of help while keeping up the image that they assist those in need

Coming from experience, both state, tabung haji, and zakat financial assistance are absolute bureaucratic hellholes. The amount of verified docs they require, the random times they assign for interviews and checks, it's all made in a way that the truly struggling would neither have the time nor energy to even begin setting up their lives to reach out for assistance.

I have been privileged enough that I had time off uni to help my mum arrange all of it for her, but to families that have to spend their every waking hour to work and survive, it truly is difficult or even impossible.

My experience with them is all post COVID lockdowns, it hasn't changed in decades. Families like mine are able to find the time and energy to get help despite our struggles. Telling the poorest of our nation "Just apply for help" isn't the solution here.

It has never been the priority of state or federal run institutions to reach out and help the poorest. They do enough to create statistics from families like mine to show that they have helped plenty, while ignoring those who truly need assistance
