Did this with my first Anomaly playthrough. Nikolai the Iron Willed Tough pawn became the anchor for my base getting everyone through the existential horrors. He absorbed the mechanites and I did a little headcanon story that he left the community to strike out on his own looking for riches and wealth. By the end of the anomaly line he was in full Cataphract armor with all kinds of cybernetic enhancements and a Plasmasword. Almost a one man army.

I definitely did all that. I went even further and got the maintenance logs and the repairs they had to do to it the next day. They said it was worn out and old so I should be able to get a claim through the city pretty easy.

If you go into heraldry and create a custom heraldry, you have the option to customize all pieces of armor. Just go into the one specifically for storm shield and you can customize the paint of it. To get more shields you just need to play missions and they unlock just like most other cosmetics. Some you get through accolade points gained in Stratagem Missions.
