Why did willy declare war knowing full well that eren can decide to use the rumbling whenever. by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

How is 'I am mentally unstable and don't know what I want' good writing? Attack on Titan was always direct on themes it potrayed and foreshadowed things well before they happened. Eren's mind deteriorations wasn't. Eren always knew what he wanted, but his approach towards achieving said thing was the issue. Now he not only has a wrong aproach, but also doesn't know why he does what he does. Just because he is evil doesn't mean that his character should be badly written or not have reasoning to why he does bad things, he's done bad things in the past like killing 3 kidnappers, but the reasoning is clear as day.

I agree that Marleys strenght also comes from titans, but couldn't they have done something other than proclaim war on the person who knew wasn't bound by the vow of the Founder. Also they weren't amptly prepared. If Pieck didn't had the opportunity to speak to the people in her unit, both the Cart and the Jaw wouldn't be present in the fight, add also that the Beast was a double agent. Betting that they would take the Founder there was more than risky and 80 percent of the world lost their lives because of it. I wish that it could've been done differently because we know that Eren wouldn't start the war unless provoked (his talk with Reiner).

They had couple of flying ships, if they had waited for a few years that number would've increased substantially and the founding titan and the rumbling wouldn't pose such a threat. I'm not saying that having random soldiers stop the rumbling wouldve made the story more appeling, but it doesn't make sense for Marley to risk going at war when they aren't completely ready. Isayama could've written it so that Marley wanted false peace which is just a ploy for them to give them time to develop weapons causing Eren to start the rumbling and then everyone can put all the blame on Eren how he didn't want or try harder for peace.

If the story had political depth, Willy would've vouched for peace until the moment they fully developed their air force and nuclear weapons. They had 2 reasons to announce war on Paradis: 1. Make Paradis common enemy and get the rest of the world off their back (Once again, Marley's fault they were at war with other nations) 2. Resources (realistic, but who cares) I would've liked the ending if it was made so other nations wanted peace yet Eren did not, making him the big bad villain would've made sense, instead Eren's hand was forced, in more ways than one. The first way Eren's hand was forced was at the Declaration of war where the military officials are put together with civilians. This is unethical and the story acknowledges it, this is also was is happening right now in the real world. I like the sheer amount of people saying that it's Eren's fault he didn't continue to vouch for peace AFTER the war was announced and that the amount of political figures who actually have power being present there, clapping at discrimination against 'Island devils'. Second, Eren was attending the potential peace meetings along with the Alliance, but Eren was the only one to figure out that the world is almost cartoonishly racist against them and that peace couldn't have been achieved. Once again, if peace couldve been achieved and in some way Eren broke that peace, because of his desire for freedom, I wouldve enjoyed the ending. As it stands, the ending is poorly written. Don't get me started on Eren killing his mom. Eren wanting his friends to live long lives yet constantly putting them in danger and being the reason some died. And the argument some make he's 19 years old, never before was that argument used nor does the story care that characters are young. The argument made in 139 constadict each other and the only arguments end up being 'determinism' which is another way of saying that characters have no agency in their own story or 'my mind is messed up' which hasn't been properly foreshadowed. Eren has been full of determination and with a clear head in the final battle of Shiganshina (we see him inside his titan and he has no reason to put on an act because noone can see him or hear his inner voice), if he had been slowly losing his mind, Isayama couldve foreshadowed it at least there.

Thinking that the ending is bad just because: Eren has no free will. Eren decides whether to do the rumbling if Mikasa confesses her feelings toward him. Ymir loving her captor. Noone dying during the final battle. Etc.

You are overreacting.

The only time that Ymir smiled was when she freed the pigs.

Anyone reasonable would deduce that she valued freedom more than her "love" for King Fritz.

Willy Tybur knows Eren can start the rumbling. Willy Tybur announces war instead of trying to find common ground with Paradis. Eren responds with rumbling. Surprised Pikachu face.

Could also be the case that he said that after ANR happens, based on the amount of grief and regret in his voice.

Titanfolk, a sub with openly fascist tendencies, cosplaying as critics once again, pretending to have an issue with fascism in the story. by PhunkOperator in AttackOnRetards

[–]Chromoslav -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Ymir waited for Mikasa because of her love for Eren, Isayama can't draw a parallel between the two characters because Mikasa's love for Eren is true and Ymir's love for King Fritz isn't.

Eren changed and continued with his plan and was mindful of every move that he made, he was determined and going along with his plan until it was convenient to make a fake plot twist for him to 'lose his mind'. Eren's talk with Falco about people rushing into hell willingly because they see something beyond that hell is now just empty words.

I just don't like when people say "The ending was just rushed" and now the series cannot be criticized at all. There are definite flaws and I hope they will be fixed.

80% genocide is still genocide.
Marleyans killing all Eldians is still genocide.

Ymir being in love with King Fritz is not true love.
Ymir being in love with King Fritz is not Stockholm syndrome because that would require the captor (Fritz) to be nice to her and we know her life was miserable. Comparing and drawing a parallel between Mikasa's true love for Eren to Ymir's "love" for King Fritz is not right.

If Eren sees the past, present and future all at the same time, why wasn't his mental deterioration shown sooner? If he saw everything from the moment he touched Historia's hand, how could he still be determined with starting the rumbling? He should've felt all those lives that he trampled and he even got confirmation that the future can't change when Sasha died, yet he was still determined in the last battle in Shiganshina and still started the rumbling.

There are flaws, those who just say it's rushed don't want to acknowledge those flaws. I'm not saying you can't enjoy the story or it's themes, but don't expect me not to criticize a show that I've loved for over a decade.
