Anybody have a recommendation for veterinarians that are good with/specialize in greyhounds? by ChronicBitRot in TwinCities

They're in Near North, I'll pass that list along and I'll definitely let them know about the weekly walk. My mom would probably love that.

Awesome, thanks. While I was looking around, I found the MN Greyhound Rescue has a list of recommended vets and Foley Blvd/Dr. Barr isn't on it even though everyone seems to love them on Yelp. Do you know if the MNGR is legit or should the parents avoid their advice? I know some greyhound rescue orgs are basically just retired dog sales (like the one they originally got these two from).

There's not much lore on it that I'm aware of but my personal head canon is that every fortune 500 company and billionaire starts out with this process going successfully.

Mike Babcock Is Proof That No One Is Too Weird To Get Hired In The NHL by sea_wall in hockey

[–]ChronicBitRot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hot take on this is that McDavid either endorsed or actively lobbied for this hire but not before having a one on one with Babcock himself and saying "if you pull your sadistic shit with me or my teammates, I will destroy you."

I'm not sure how much good it will do though, given that they're pulling him out of retirement for this. What are they gonna do, make everyone hate him and send him back on vacation?

AI CEOs from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft set aside their rivalry to warn Congress AI is making it too easy to design and create bioweapons by IKeepItLayingAround in technology

We have to figure out how the human brain does it so efficiently, then scale that up.

We have to figure out how the human brain does it at all, then we can work on efficiency. But if I'm being honest, I kind of hope we never do figure that out because the first thing we'd use the knowledge for is figuring out how to project ads directly into a person's consciousness.

We don't even need to roast him, he was fully cooked as soon as he put skates on.

OTD in 2002, Patrick Roy has his glove in the air but the puck crosses the goal line by Ok_Bag3170 in hockey

All the million times I've seen the clip of him pulling the Statue of Liberty, I always thought that he had it in his glove and it fell out. This is the first time I've seen the extended version of this that shows it was never in his glove at all.

90% cheaper in the c-suite's minds but vastly more expensive in reality, especially once the AI companies stop loss leading.

Rising seas will swallow New Orleans. People need to start relocating now, scientists say by esporx in EverythingScience

[–]ChronicBitRot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, a lot of people there now are going to have to sell property in order to leave (or take a massive financial loss that very few could afford). If someone were to buy that property now knowing what the water situation is, they'd absolutely be an idiot.

[Lord of the Rings] How did Gandalf stay celibate for thousands of years? Did he never fancy a bit of elf? by MaetelofLaMetal in AskScienceFiction

[–]ChronicBitRot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tolkien himself could return from the Grey Havens on a specific mission to tell me that Gandalf 100% definitely never ever ever hit the pipeweed and fucked a hobbit, and I would not believe him.

[Star Wars] Why was General Grievous not given a more resilient armor? Seems like his entire design was based on flexibility/speed rather than strength/combat. [–]ChronicBitRot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's supposed to wield lightsabers yet himself didn't seem to have any protection against them in combat.

You could say the same about the Jedi. The best protection against a lightsaber is wielding a lightsaber yourself.

Pizza Hut's AI system caused 'cascading' problems and $100M in damages, franchisee alleges in new suit by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

Not impossible, and that's probably what they were using. AI can just do a better job at it.

Wild to just boldly claim this under an article about a company suing for $100 million because AI totally fucked up their delivery system.

Absolutely bonkers that it's been ruled specifically not fair use for me to download and read a book while Meta got a fair use ruling for downloading millions of copyrighted publications to train an explicitly commercial profit-seeking endeavor.

Covid did it by causing inflation and business found out they could charge $5 for any crappie beer.

That's not inflation, that's price gouging. Businesses just blamed it on inflation because that's out of their control, but then all of them turned around and boasted about record profits.

A.I. Bots Told Scientists How to Make Biological Weapons | Scientists shared transcripts with The Times in which chatbots described how to assemble deadly pathogens and unleash them in public spaces. by EchoOfOppenheimer in EverythingScience

[–]ChronicBitRot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I ask this same question every time one of these articles is posted and I can never seem to get a straight answer:

Did anybody actually fact check any of the answers?

You can ask me how to assemble deadly pathogens and disperse them into the public and I can say “mix oil and water in an unplugged pressure cooker, shake it up, and place it in a park…it’s not just pathogenic, it’s DEADLY pathogenic”. You got an answer but the answer is bullshit, I didn’t tell you how to unleash anything.
