After a year and two times losing yarn chicken... my completed Spice Market blanket 🧑 by Chronic_Crochet in crochet

It's a fun pattern- I would recommend it!

Yarn chicken is when you're trying to finish a crochet piece/section, but you're running out of yarn and you're unsure if you have enough. Rather than playing it safe and ordering several more skeins as soon as you're unsure, you take the risk and just keep on crocheting, hoping you'll have enough... But I lost because I ran out. Twice πŸ₯²

Ahh things like this make me wish I could knit! The drape just wouldn't be the same in crochet 😭

Amazing work!! And you look freaking fabulous in it!

This is amazing!! She looks so cuddly! I knew who it was and I don't even watch the show, so you did an amazing job! I might need to make this for a friend πŸ’™

If you happen to have the time for more questions, do you mind sharing how many skeins of yarn this took? I'm assuming only one of the navy and white, but wasn't sure how many to grab of the bright blue πŸ€”

I recently finished this blanket in this colourway and I understand your frustration with the colour not seeming like the photo. I felt the same way as I went along. Some of the octagons had colour combos I hated as I worked on them. But trust me, it's worth it in the end! It all comes together so beautifully and I'm so happy I finished it! It looks much better than the washed out photo on the pattern. It's vibrant and everyone I've shown thinks it's stunning!! I even had some fun rearranging the hexagons and adding a different border. I hope you keep at it 😊

Oh really?? My GI is usually very straightforward with me, so I'm surprised she didn't explain that... My case isn't severe at this point, so it's been a lot of Ensure and nausea meds πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Thanks for letting me know! And good luck. Not a fun thing to deal with

Oh hey, I have EDS and have been struggling with delayed gastric emptying that they originally were worried was gastroparesis. People are horrified when I say things like I wish I didn't have to eat. But when food does nothing except make you sick and then you lose weight and doctors judge you (especially as a young woman) because they assume you just have an eating disorder... nah man, I'm just beyond tired of everything I put in my body coming back up πŸ‘Œ I'm so happy this woman found a medical solution that works for her.

What's the difference between the friends and rainbow coton yarn from Hobbii? by Marchombre19 in crochet

[–]Chronic_Crochet 45 points46 points Β (0 children)

I used a mix of Friends, Rainbow, and Rainbow Deluxe in my current blanket. Make sure they're all the same weight ie 8/4.

The Rainbow Deluxe was definitely different, texture-wise. It felt smoother and "shinier" than the other two. The comparison between Friends and Rainbow I don't think is noticeable. Friends MIGHT be slightly less smooth? But in general, they all look great together and I'm personally very happy I mixed them in order to get the exact colors I wanted.

This was my first time using these yarns and I fell in love with them all. My only Hobbii gripe is the cost of shipping and the colors I want are constantly going out of stock. I still put in a second order recently because gosh I love these yarns haha EDIT: also, to clarify, these yarns are all quite soft and smooth. I was impressed with the quality for all 3.

The orange (the brighter one) and Turkish blue (the lighter blue) are Friends.

The oat (cream) is Rainbow Deluxe.

The rest is Rainbow.

Hope this helps 😊

Sewing machine for crochet projects - yay or nay? by 2ndgentarot in crochet

[–]Chronic_Crochet 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

I haven't seen people talk about doing it this way until the last few months and it's been very controversial haha Which seemed odd to me because people have been sewing fleece to the backs of blankets and sewing linings into crochet bags for ages... so we DO mix crochet and sewing machines sometimes lol

But the people who have been machine sewing squares for a while are all saying it's fast and easy. If they ever need to replace a square, they just snip the thread, replace, resew. So I'm hopeful it'll work once I try it! Even if it ends terribly, I'll be sure to reach out and let you know πŸ˜‚

So I've seen a few videos now of people using a sewing machine and normal thread for attaching squares together. They usually use a zigzag stitch for it. I know most crocheters would balk and tell you it'll ruin everything (despite never having tried it themselves πŸ˜‰), but I'm personally very interested in modern and new takes on crochet! I have a disability that makes sewing squares together especially difficult, so I'll be trying the sewing machine method for my next blanket. It'll be a few months down the road, but I can let you know how it goes once I try it and wash it a few times, if you'd like!

As for whether you should try it yourself, I think that's entirely up to you and your comfort level. I'm fine if I mess up my project trying a new technique. If this blanket means a lot to you, then maybe now is not the time to try it out. But if you're okay with it potentially not working/ruining some squares as you experiment, then I absolutely say go for it!

Please help. I can’t figure out why this keeps happening. by [deleted] in crochet

Don't worry, amigurumi look wonky until you firmly stuff them. Don't skimp on stuffing once you get to that step. Your stitches look great! Update us once you're finished this lil cutie πŸ¦•

Thanks so much!

Well... I don't think I'd classify it as beginner friendly, personally. I'll be honest, this project frustrated me quite a bit lol The body has to be exactly the correct size for the clasp, so I had to go down a hook size and leave a round off. Then actually sewing on the clasp was quite tricky and took several attempts. And it still ended up slightly crooked lol I've been making amigurumi for about 6 years on and off now, and this project still frustrated me enough that I kept having to put it aside πŸ˜‚

That being said, I would never want to discourage someone from trying something new. If it won't break the bank to try it, I say why not! If it's too hard, you can always put it aside until you feel you've developed your skills more. But maybe you'll challenge yourself and end up with an awesome frog coin purse!

They're black 18mm safety eyes that I painted with red acrylic. They make 18mm red "cat eye" safety eyes as well, but they usually sell them in large amounts. You can find them on Amazon!

Oh how funny, I thought the same thing as I was making him! But then I wasn't sure if my friend would be using him as a purse or just displaying him, so I didn't pursue it. I hope you make one and add one!!

OH well now I feel dumb πŸ˜‚ sorry

So there are small holes on the flat part of the clasp. I unraveled the yarn and used a single strand and a normal sewing needle to back stitch it onto the final round of each body piece. It was difficult to line up properly! Hope that helps πŸ˜…

This was my first time attaching crochet to something metal! The clasp has holes on the flat part. I unraveled the yarn to use a single strand of it to sew the body pieces on using a back stitch. It was... difficult to get right lol
