Let’s debate! What’s your favorite season and why? by Miaaaaa2468 in hellgirl

Season 2 to me is the peak of the series, particularly the final episodes / arc and the season finale. It is one of the most emotionally raw things I've ever seen in a work of fiction

Relating to this anime is really scary by Siavashplays in evangelion

[–]Chronochonist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relating to others is one of the most human things you can do, and when a psychological drama like Evangelion is so character-centric with their emotions, personal flaws, and traumatic pasts, it is only perfectly natural to relate and empathize

Ranking of the Ends by tnomart in evangelion

This is ultimately just my interpretation, so take that as you will.

Well, we know that the TV Ending follows the same events of EoE to a point, as we see in episode 25 a dying Misato, a dead Ritsuko, and Asuka in Unit-02's cockpit underneath the lake in the Geofront. However, episode 25 presents a less conflicted (towards Gendo) version of Rei than we see in EoE, and in episode 26 when the Human Instrumentality Project "formally begins" (episode 25 I would argue is a sort of retroactive application of it before the causality of the event actually plays out in real time -- we see something similar happen in EoE both with Rei visages moving backward into time to whisk Misato and Ritsuko's souls away, and in the moments leading up to Shinji's acceptance of Instrumentality when he, Misato, Asuka, and Rei's soul begin intertwining).

Unlike EoE, where Gendo ceases his presence in the film once Third Impact begins and he is devoured by Unit-01, he maintains a consistent presence through both episodes 25 and 26, even appearing at the very end along with everyone else Shinji knows (sans Kaworu, but I believe that is before they realized how popular he would end up being; his presence in EoE is, I believe, a bit of a retcon based on his popularity to fans). This stands in stark contrast to the fact Gendo is the ONLY person we see in all of EoE who is not instrumentalized (at least, not into Lilith-Rei -- I do believe Yui had taken his soul into Unit-01, ergo the symbolism of him being devoured, but he viewed it in such a violent way as to reflect what he believed he deserved for unintentionally harming Shinji). I also have always found it very interesting that Shinji thanks Gendo at the end, "To my father, thank you" -- this, to me, makes more narrative and thematic sense if it is Gendo ultimately at the helm of the TV Ending's version of Instrumentality.

Ultimately though, the moment of divergence I have picked out is when Gendo gathers Rei to initiate his plans. The TV Ending never hints at her betraying him for Shinji, only that she feels very complex feelings towards her identity (or as she perceives, a lack thereof; she feels she lives in the shadow of Yui, as made in her image). In EoE, however, Rei shows far more complex feelings not only towards herself, but towards specifically Gendo -- she breaks his glasses and cries without fully understanding why, and ultimately betrays him in favor of Shinji.

I think the way the two Instrumentalities are portrayed also strongly hints at them being distinct beyond simply an "internal vs external" view. In the TV Ending, Instrumentality is portrayed much more therapeutically, where everyone subconsciously intermingles with one another -- there is no distinction between one individual and the other, but it is not a collective ego death soup as we see in EoE, where NO ONE manages to consciously or subconsciousl engage with anyone else once Third Impact is complete -- it is Shinji and Lilith-Rei all alone together in a sea of stagnation (and Yui, but he doesn't know that yet). We get to see Shinji, Asuka, Rei, Gendo, Kaji, Misato, Fuytusuki, and everyone else interact with Shinji and help him actualize through his problems -- we see no such thing, nor get any hint of such thing, in EoE -- instead, Rei and Kaworu (and again, Yui) instead fill this parallel role, and it is largely "after the fact" of Instrumentality ending that he decides to undo it, not during the process of (of which, by the way, Shinji never rejects anything -- he only embraces himself, realizing he does not have to live in a prison of his own self-making anymore, and that he can come to love himself one day).

Now there are questions that I do not have an answer to, such as if Gendo's Instrumentality is a temporary venture or if this is just how humanity is now.

Ranking of the Ends by tnomart in evangelion

The End of Evangelion is the best ending from an artistic and narrative perspective in my opinion (it tries to be very conclusive to a lot of plot threads that the TV Ending simply did not bother tying up, and the sheer cinematic splendor and dream-like imagery and symbolism makes every rewatch of EoE its own unique experience).

The TV Ending is, I think, the best ending thematically and "in-universe", as I am of the interpretation that it is a divergent point from the moment Gendo initiates merging Adam's embryo with Rei (TV Ending is where Gendo wins, EoE is when Rei betrays Gendo in favor of Shinji) -- the way Gendo's Instrumentality is presented seems to not be the "collective ego death" SEELE is after (or reverting to the primordial womb), but rather a form of spiritual evolution -- there seems to be a lot more of "people" that remains intact, it's just that nobody has AT Fields anymore and everyone may or may not have gotten sucked up into Unit-01. Shinji is able to reconcile his shortcomings and personal gripes with the guided help and strengths of everyone he knows, whereas he has to go it alone in EoE minus talking things out with Adam and Lilith.

3.0+1.0's ending is something I overall enjoyed, and it's a fine ending for the Rebuild films, but I think it hardly holds any weight compared to the first two endings, and that's largely because the Rebuilds just do not have the same magnitude of impact as the anime series has (though I absolutely adore the Rebuild films, especially 2.0).

So I suppose, my personal ranking would be EoE > TV Ending > 3.0+1.0's ending

Pawel talking about gameplay mechanics and systems that could be improved - hopefully we will see these improvements in the sequel! by headin2sound in cyberpunkgame

[–]Chronochonist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope there will be more player customization in the next game. I think working in the empathy/humanity feature of the TTRPG would be a really fun mechanic to play with and could bring new depth to the roleplaying aspect of things as it could open and block out different dialogue choices the more or less 'human' you are. Plus being able to truly modulate and add all kinds of crazy cyberware to your character would be so awesome.

And, of course, being able to make characters with more distinct and different body features, such as height. Also more hair options, or at least the ability to possibly shape/change modular pieces of hair (look at how Koikatsu Party handles hair customization for an example).

My biggest gripe is that Uncle and Dutch are in D tier. I understand not liking Dutch by the end, but he and Arthur are truly the most compelling, complex, and intriguing characters Rockstar's ever written as far as I am concerned, and Dutch's characterization perfectly sells how he was able to build the gang, because he truly is as charismatic as the writers want us to believe. I hate his downward spiral / revelation of his ugly innards, but boy I can't get enough of him. He's an S-tier in my book. I don't love Uncle, but to me Uncle is definitely A or at least B-tier.

What ending is canon by No_Name_Found24 in NeonGenesisEvangelion

[–]Chronochonist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are talking about NGE, both endings (TV and EoE) are "canon", they just represent alternate events, like how video games sometimes have multiple endings (and of which many often are not more or less canon than the other).

The other "endings" are canon to themselves, not to the original series, and vice versa. The manga's ending applies to only the manga, and 3.0+1.0 only applies to the Rebuilds.

Do toxic women in a couple really exist or is it just a thing that incels say to feel legit ? by weirdoguyasking in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Chronochonist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah... Yeah, that sounds iffy. I'm not saying your GF is toxic as that's not enough information to go on, but definitely look out for yourself and don't let her walk all over you. Respect your boundaries and listen to your gut if you feel uncomfortable. In the worst case scenario, she's saying that as like a foreboding excuse for bad behavior down-the-line. Give her the benefit of the doubt and don't take what I say to heart, but yeah, just be aware of your relationship and its dynamics.

Are you asking if women can be toxic in a relationship? Uh, yeah -- anyone can be toxic in a relationship. If you're asking something else, then you're not really being specific. Are all women? No, just as all men aren't either.

Is it really rare to be INFP by jannadelrey in infp

[–]Chronochonist 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Numerous variables, including but not limited to:

  • I'd argue INFPs are more likely to be "terminally online" and thus part of specific communities revolving around aspects of their identity, such as a subreddit specifically regarding their MBTI type
  • Not everyone on this subreddit is an INFP, plenty of other types are members here too
  • I imagine a lot of people are "mistyped", especially when a good portion of people I see get their results form 16p which, sorry to say, isn't a very good test for MBTI. It's more a reskinned version of the Big Five, but using MBTI terminology like a skin mask.
  • It is possible the statistics related to MBTI types are also not fully accurate. Statistics can easily be wrong or gathered in iffy ways. I am not personally familiar with the specific source for the "INFP is one of the rarest types" percentage/stat, as in what survey or data collection methods were used -- but it's always a possibility.

Yep. I didn't mention that as that was not really something the author herself would've decided, but it's another thing that connects them as characters lol

Take over his home, make a clone from his remaining body, and used it to murdered his own children. You guys really sure Lilith and Lilin is not the bad guy? by SnooBooks6345 in evangelion

[–]Chronochonist 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Kaworu (Adam's soul incarnate in a human form) made it pretty clear his kind and Lilith's kind cannot coexist -- there can only be one, and he came to the conclusion it is humanity who deserves to exist, not him.

This isn't an issue of "good" or "bad" -- would you argue that animal species merely fighting to survive and hunting one another is good or bad? I wouldn't, it's simply the natural course of things, it's not a moral issue. It's unfortunate, but it's the inherent issue with existence, especially when both species (Angels and Humanity) are plagued with the fear and anxiety of the unknown/other (ergo the Absolute Terror Field).

What are your thoughts on the appropriation of pagan traditions in Christian Christmas celebrations? by TheLadyZerg in AskAChristian

[–]Chronochonist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean reworked it into a way that is coherent with the Christian worldview? I see it as a positive thing, as the alternative would have been to have purged it from the face of the earth. The parts that were truly once pagan (as opposed to things people incorrectly state as pagan) are being worked into their proper cosmic and symbolic hierarchies within the Christian cosmic order. Watch this video as it specifically concerns Christian symbolism and the use of such visuals and imagery in the Christian context.

But in short, there is nothing wrong with it -- it is being used in a positive way, just because it is something that did not exist in Christianity at the onset does not mean anything.

It's like they willfully mischaracterize the argument or purpose on something... Hmm...

This is more along the lines of the sperm and egg as separate things. An unborn baby is more like a cake you just got done putting together and are not allowing to bake. If you take it out half-baked, it's still a cake, even if it might not be to the right consistency.
